DeLay Says Farewell..And Then Some!

Although his departure was overshadowed, Tom DeLay left with some parting words….

DeLay said his farewells in a House chamber that must have resembled his fondest dreams: crammed on the Republican side, virtually empty on the Democratic side. The one-time exterminator from the Houston suburbs declared that he has “few regrets, no doubts,” and assured his colleagues that he always served “honorably and honestly.”

DeLay suggested that pundits who complain about “the divisive partisan rancor that supposedly weakens our democracy” are merely nostalgic for the days when most Republicans meekly accepted minority status. DeLay was never one of those Republicans.

“The common lament over the recent rise in political partisanship is often nothing more than a veiled complaint about the recent rise of political conservatism,” DeLay said.

DeLay did praise his liberal adversaries for their willingness to stand up and fight him; he reserved his harshest attacks for “the preening, self-styled statesman who elevates compromise to a first principle.” He suggested that “had liberals not fought us tooth and nail,” conservatives could have accomplished much more during his 22 years in Washington.

“Now it goes without saying that by my count, our friends on the other side of the aisle lost every one of those arguments over the last 22 years, but that’s beside the point,” DeLay quipped. At least it sounded like a quip. It was hard to tell.

“I yield back the floor of our beloved House,” DeLay said at the end of his last speech as a back-bencher. “And I exit, as always, stage right.”

I gotta admit, that last line of his is real good:

    “exit, stage right”

  2. Yeah, congratulations, SF… conservatives celebrate the ending that punk Al-Zarqawi, while liberals sit around in a circle jerk over getting that ‘sumbitch Delay

what he did is still beyond me…….it’s not like he blatently perjured himself in front of 2 billion people, or drove a woman into a lake….

but you, you got him! Keep going after conservatives, we’ll keep going after muslim animals, thereby keeping your dumb asses safe.

  3. Once again we must point out how the DeLay case illustrates a fundamental difference between the Republicans and the Democrites.

DeLay voluntarily stepped down to save the party and the House the distractions of his case while he resolves it.

Why don’t Race-card McKinney, or Freezer Jefferson do anything like that?

    Because they are Demo-crites!

Mike K, I was referring to the funny word play Delay used on the old saying “Exit, stage Left”…being a musician, I thought you would know that and know it was also the name of a live Rush album.

“what he did is still beyond me…”

I know, so I’ll post it: two counts alleging money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering

Oh give me a break, the man was practically FORCED out of office. He became a poster boy for Republican Corruption, and the smug smile on the mug shot only made it worse.

Jefferson should resign, and probably will very soon. At least the Democratic leadership is working to strip him of his committee post instead of trying to change the rules to keep him around like the republicans. (!)

Where is it that you are getting that? The Democratic Black Caucus is fighting with him against the leadership. It appears that Pelosi backed off when race allegations were thrown out there.

Come on now, it took Delay some time to “get the picture”…Jefferson will get it soon too.

  7. DeLay’s case is the result of an aggressive partisan hack local DA. Jefferson was caught red-handed with his pants down on videotape taking bribe money. I’d say there’s quite a bit of difference there, wouldn’t you?

  8. When SF? When he is FORCED out of office?
