A U.S. district court judge on Monday dismissed a lawsuit brought by a California atheist against the U.S. government for its use of the phrase “In God We Trust” on its coins and currency.
Michael Newdow, the Sacramento, California lawyer and doctor who had previously launched a court challenge on behalf of his daughter over the phrase “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance said in schools, had argued that “In God We Trust” on monetary instruments violates his rights.
Newdow claimed that by using coins and currency bearing the phrase, he is forced to carry religious dogma, proselytise and evangelise for monotheism.
Judge Frank Damrell of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California held in his opinion that “In God We Trust” is secular in nature and use, and its appearance on coins and currency does not show government coercion on behalf of monotheism.Newdow told Reuters he would appeal to the San Francisco-based U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which ruled in his favour in his “under God” lawsuit, a decision later overruled by the U.S. Supreme Court, which found Newdow could sue not on behalf of his daughter because he lacked custody.
“The case is really straightforward. The history is overwhelmingly on my side,” Newdow said.
I can’t imagine spending as much wasted energy on a God that I proclaim to not believe in! Michael Newdow needs to get a hobby other than God!

Good the guy is nuts
Ha Ha ha. Now I hope this little boll weevil douchebag will go find something productive to do.
So why is that no good self-centered atheists jerk trying to force everybody in the nation to abide by his rules? why dont he go move to cuba then he can be what he realy its A STUPID JACKASS:roll:
Michael Newdow is my hero, and should be the hero of everyone! We don’t need your tired, old fashioned religious dogma. America will be a better place under socialist/communist (godless) rule! That’s what the ACLU is working for, a better future!
If Michael Newdow was declared a vexious litigant, the US would be a better place.
Vexious litigants are barred from filing lawsuits.
Mr Newdow should have a sign on his back reading KICK ME there would be plenty of americans would just love to apply a boot to his backside:razz:
#4 I would like an example of when your “utopia” came to fruition? As far as I know not many people risk their lives trying to escape America and swim to Cuba. Socialism is so fu….g asinine I can’t believe idiots like you still think of it as paridise. Like I said, show me one example where communism created more freedom, wealth, happiness, security, creativity, love, and joy than we have in America. You wouldn’t even have the option of blogging in a communist state you uneducated worthless leech on humanity. Get you head out of Marx’s ass and think for yourself!
Michael Newdow needs to shut up and sit down before someone catches him in a back alley. He may think he’s so damn righteous, but he needs to realize that the Mafia, Irish Mob and the Mexican gangs were all raised Catholic. I doubt it would take much of a suggestion to some of these guys for him to end up hanging out with Madaline O’Hare. Last I heard she’s right up there with Jimmy Hoffa in the missing and in a shallow grave department.
Our legal system has a lot better things to expend its energies on than idiots like this. What he fails to admit is that his personal anti-religious dogma does not trump the religious dogma of the rest of the US. He also fails to realize that the Constitution states that “Congress shall make no laws respecting the establishment of religion (i.e. NO official US government religion) or restricting the free exercise thereof. If he doesn’t want to carry around cash with the words “In God We Trust” on it, he doesn’t have to. He can cross it out with a pen, use debit/credit cards, or write checks. The really stupid part of this whole damn thing is that he’s probably getting reimbursed for this nonsense under a little known section of the US Code. If he actually had to pay all of the legal filing fees associated with his idiotic lawsuits, he’d stop filing them. Of course perhaps the best way to stop him would be to sue him for the legal fees involved in his recent failed lawsuit to ban the words “under God” from the oath. I’m certain the State of California spent millions on their legal fees over that waste of time.
I’ve heard this weasel, Newdow, interviewed by Hannity about his earlier suit (under God in pledge of allegiance). When Hannity pinned him down with questions, Newdow would do the whiny Leftist weasel tactic of changing the argument. Newdow would never give a straight answer.
If I were a judge and Newdow came into my court, I’d dismiss the case, then order the bailiff to drag Newdow out and throw his ass into the street.
For all the people in support of every action coming out of the ACLU. If they’re your hero, then who does that make your forefathers? George Washington would turn over in his grave for the misuse and abuse you have done to the country’s policies! This country was founded on God – that is JESUS CHRIST!
You will answer to God someday. It doesn’t matter if you believe that or not – it will happen. Don’t wait to realize this when you are on your last breath! Let’s just say you get your way and the inscription “In God We Trust” is removed. What then? Will you truly ever find REAL happiness and fullfillment?
First, you don’t agree with our forefathers, and you should simply be banished for that and get out of the country quickly. Second, your atheistic whimpering whine offends me – so who’s correct? You or me?
It’s sad that, at no point, can people like Newdow and his little “fan club” be diplomatically spoken too because you can’t see the TRUTH right infront of your very clueless face. You stand against a God that loved you before your very existence. Believe it or not, Christ died for you – that’s a fact. What do you base your truth on? Things you touch, feel, experience? Do you believe History? How can you quantify what was written really happened (for ALL of History). You see, it’s this little thing called FAITH in Christ, that makes a Huge deal in your eternal destination. You simply spend it with Christ, or eternally away from Him. This was a bold statement, but stated very much out of concern for your spiritual well-being.
Dear You will answer to God someday,
What in God’s name are you talking about? Go to Michaels site to preach that!
10–Ummm….okay. That’s so not the way to get your message across.
Peejz, thanks.
