The Pentagon activated its new U.S. ground-based interceptor missile defense system

Bill Gertz is reporting:

The Pentagon activated its new U.S. ground-based interceptor missile defense system, and officials announced yesterday that any long-range missile launch by North Korea would be considered a “provocative act.”

Poor weather conditions above where the missile site was located by U.S. intelligence satellites indicates that an immediate launch is unlikely, said officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

However, intelligence officials said preparations have advanced to the point where a launch could take place within several days to a month.

Two Navy Aegis warships are patrolling near North Korea as part of the global missile defense and would be among the first sensors that would trigger the use of interceptors, the officials said yesterday.

  1. This is the system the Left fought so hard against for years. They would rather the U.S. be defenseless against rogues like N. Korea or Iran.

They always claimed two main points:

    1. It could never stop all missiles in an all-out war.
    2. That the technology doesn’t work anyway.

Just like their anti-gun arguments, these fall aprt when compared to the facts:

    1. Nobody ever said it would or could. It isn’t intended to do that, what it is designed to do is stop one or two, precisely the sort of threat we might face with terrorists or a rogue like NK. They deliberately mischaracterize the argument so they can use it as a straw man.
    2. It is far from perfect. But it has come a long way, and is getting better. No new technology is perfect right away, it all is evolutionary. The Leftist argument is like saying that the first PC in 1981 was of limited power and features and so PCs should not be developed further cause they will never amount to anything useful.

Once again, the Left is wrong.

  2. NOW THAT IS SOMETHING I LIKE BUSH FOR, THANK YOU BUSH.

  3. When it comes to our nation’s defense the left is always wrong. The reason for that is because they don’t think America is worth fighting for to begin with. Just ask John Kerry “pass a global test”?

  4. I am waiting for John Kerry to come out and claim that all this is just scare tactics by the Bush Administration. Mr. Kim Jong Ill-in the brain is no threat to this country. The Republicans are using this to score big in November.
They live in a euphoria. There are no bad people in this world, we just need to reach out to them and be friends.

  5. Yes well Sandy, you do remember it was good old Madeline notsobright that gave Mr. Kim Jong Ill the materials he needed for this to begin with.

Let’s hope Mr. Kerry is wise enough to shut his trap for once.

  6. No, let’s hope Kerry don’t shut up. He makes himself and his party look foolish. The less wise he is, the better off we all are. I love it when they open their mouth and insert their big fat foot.

  7. Good point. I agree. The more they open their mouths the more foolish they look.

  8. Interesting…

All of you associate with the term “left” some idea of appeasement and pacifism.

But did any of you ever ask whether your heroic government might have overturned the wrong dictator?! I mean both are bastards, but as it looks ole’ buddy Mr. “when it comes to sanity” Ill is the much more successful guy regarding any possible crime (drug dealing, espionage, human rights violations, WMD).

I mean, GW and Donald probably read their Sun Tsu and know that one should not fight a battle with uncertain outcome, but from an ethical POV, the US troops should right now be in NK instead of Iraq… There they would really be received as liberators and not as occupants!

  9. Matthias, well, by your logic I believe U.S. troops should have been in North Korea in 1993. Clinton hesitated. He just didn’t have the guts. In fact he gave Mr. Ill what he needed to best us. Now we have to work around that. But make no mistake. Saddam had to go as well.

As for association of the term “left”, yes, lefties seem to promote appeasement and pacifism in their rhetoric and actions. If the shoe fits……

  10. In terms of going to North Korea first, we knew they already had the ability to make a nuclear missle..thanks to good ‘ole slick Will…it was preventing Iraq from doing the same. See, you people on the left have to realize it is easier to put a stop to a dictator prior to nukes. Once they have them, you have to be extremely cautious. If something would have been done with Mr. Ill in the brain 10 or 15 years ago, we wouldn’t be in this situation.

  11. “See, you people on the left have to realize it is easier to put a stop to a dictator prior to nukes.”

…As easy as Iraq has been?

  12. Yeah, you don’t see Saddam with any nukes, do you?

  13. I second that Mike since you took the words right out of my mouth.

  14. yeah.. thanks for that softball SF…sheesh..too easy.

  15. SF has a mindset that we are losing in Iraq…wishful thinking I would assume on his part. Pessimism and more pessimism. I would think being so negative all the time would start to wear on you after while.

  16. “Yeah, you don’t see Saddam with any nukes, do you?”

The Iraq Occupation has created bigger problems for the US and our allies than Saddam ever could have dreamed of posing.

More Muslim people view America less favorably than ever before, terrorist attacks are on the rise globally, and the ranks of the terrorists have been increased and fueled by the Iraq Occupation…

I guess that some of you just are not capable of understanding how bad a mistake it was to invade and occupy Iraq. It’s those Neoconservative blinders you have on that are messing you up on this one…

    ————————————————-

“SF has a mindset that we are losing in Iraq:wishful thinking I would assume on his part.”

I think you are forgetting that you are very much so in the minority of national opinion concerning Iraq.

You ARE aware that a majority of Americans view the war as a mistake, aren’t you?

    —————————————————

“I would think being so negative all the time would start to wear on you after while.”

And I would think that being consistantly blind to the reality of the disaster in Iraq and being in the minority of American public opinion on Iraq would wear on YOU after awhile…(!)

No matter. Your days in power are numbered. Please, just keep on doing exactly what your team is doing…with 20% approval rating in Congress and a president with 35% approval rating – what have you got to worry about?

  17. Does SF EVER have a thought, opinion, remark that dosen’t center around a poll??????

no wonder he was such a fan of billy Bj

  18. SF, why don’t you go and change your pants while the adults go and run the world? Take that back you the Kos crew in their tinfoil hats and permanently crapped pants.

  19. the only polls he dosen’t seem to want to remind us of are those pesky polls that they take on the first tuesday in November…..

  20. Has anyone seen that HBO documentary “Left of the Dial” about the beginning of Air Amerikkka?

It’s like a fucking 90 minute gag real… a comedy hour!!! The looks on Franken, Garafolo, Rhodes’ faces when Bush Was RE-ELECTED…..oh my god, I could rewind that shit for days…. it’s just like when that moron from The New Yorker said in 1972 “I don’t know a single person who voted for Nixon”

    he won 49 states.

Liberals are clueless…….. it really is comical

  21. Oh SF…What Muslims think?? You have got to be kidding…what Muslims think. I don’t give a rat’s ass what the “Muslims” think. Do you remember 9-11? Do you remember the USS Cole bombing? Do you remember the Embassy bombings? Do you remember the ’93 Trade Center bombing? Muslims were involved in all of them. What did we do as a country to deserve all that? We feed and protect more people in this God-forsaken world than all the other countries combined and what do we get in return….3000 of our people blown to pieces.
You talk about being blind to reality, My God. Wake up and smell the coffee!!!!…these people want to destroy us and you think running and hiding is going to make these lunatics go away???? If we stayed out of Iraq, Saddam would have had nukes along with Mr. Ill, then what would we do….oh, yeah..appease them.
“If you don’t blow us up with nukes, huh huh, we will give you more nukes…yeah, more nukes. Just leave us alone. Kill and behead the rest of world, but please leave us alone!
One more thing…The approval ratings have more to do with too damn much democratic-like spending of our tax dollars. Polls that ask people is we should cut and run in Iraq are overwhelmingly in the president’s favor. They may not agree with how he handled the war, but they don’t want us to just split.
I can’t wait until November, so I can see Chris Matthews cry like a little girly boy that he is.

  22. yes, according to SF lib, we should base our entire foreign policy on “what muslims think”……

    good plan.

  23. let me clue you in on something, SF..MOST muslims (not just “radical” muslims”) think you are an infidel and not deserving to live, so…..

If you want to go according to “what muslims think” climb the golden gate and take a leap, cuz that’s where they’d prefer to see you, dead at the bottom of the bay.

  24. “SF, why don’t you go and change your pants while the adults go and run the world?”

would the adults who would run your little world run it as well as they have in Iraq?

    just curious…

    ——————————————-

“Does SF EVER have a thought, opinion, remark that doesn’t center around a poll??????”

I think some of you people NEED to be reminded just how unpopular your team is right now, and you need to know the majority of Americans DO NOT AGREE WITH YOU.

Most of you here live in this fantasy world up in your heads where you think most Americans agree with you…when in fact, they do not.

When done properly, statistics can be very scientifically accurate. I know things like “science” pain some of you, but it’s true.

    —————————————————–

“…what Muslims think. I don’t give a rat’s ass what the “Muslims”think. Do you remember 9-11? Do you remember the USS Cole bombing? Do you remember the Embassy bombings? Do you remember the ‘93 Trade Center bombing?”

THAT is why you fail. (!) You don’t care what the Muslim people think or what their feelings are. So why should they then give a damn about YOU?

You have no clue how advantageous winning over the hearts and minds of people can be. I’m not talking about winning over the fundamentalist radicals, they’re a lost cause much like many of your ultra-conservative buddies are here in the US.

I’m talking about the 1 + Billion Muslims around the globe whose opinions of the US keep getting worse and worse with each passing day. These regular people – folks like you and me; concerned about kids, school, work, etc… – can turn against us real fast if we don’t listen to what they have to say.

    ————————————————–

“…these people want to destroy us and you think running and hiding is going to make these lunatics go away????”

Your team is the only one mentioning the words “cut and run”, and you’re only doing it to attempt political gain or high ground. It’s not an accurate representation of what the left feels concerning leaving Iraq…but why should accuracy suddenly concern you now?

Your leaders are MASTERS at manipulating words and feelings to their advantage. Using catchy phrases like “The Death Tax” and “Culture of Life” or “Cutting and Running”…

Most people eventually see through these pathetic mislabels when a little bit of thought is put into it.

I’m not surprised at all that most of you here can’t see that you are being manipulated with simplistic-speak.

    ——————————————————–

“SF..MOST Muslims (not just “radical”Muslims”) think you are an infidel and not deserving to live, so…”

Mike, that’s like saying that all Christians think non-Christians are hell-bound heathens and not deserving to live because they don’t accept Christ.

There may be a few losers who feel that way on both sides, but it certainly isn’t the norm.

    ————————————————

Some of you military folks might understand this; think of Iraq as a battle being fought on bad ground. Like Gettysburg was fought on bad ground by the Rebs, we are in the wrong fight and the wrong place and the wrong time.

Do we stay and get pummeled, bloodied or worse, or do we move on to better ground of our own choosing and fight there and then, when it’s most advantageous to us?

Dems want to fight, but on good ground. Repubs want to stay and fight on bad ground. Which makes better sense militarily?

Imagine if Lee had moved into the Gettysburg area and claimed the high ground first, before the Feds did. What would the war have been like then?

  25. …and what would the war on terror look like now if Iraq had not been invaded and occupied? And if America had waited to fight on “better ground” – or devoted more effort to Afghnaistan?

We’d have 2,500 + of our best and brightest still with us, probably. I’d still have my Captain buddy and his three year old son would still have a dad.

But no, we now have the United States biggest military blunder since Vietnam.

History will NOT be kind to your incompetent president and his failed, miserable war. Or the incompetent people who voted for him.

  26. The only reason the world feels the way they do is the propaganda that is thrown at them on a daily basis from the media…always negative, never positive. If you are constantly told that the US is terrible and evil, you will eventually believe it without hearing the other side. The people in Iraq that see freedom coming to them, even though difficult at times, realize the sacrifices this country is making so that they can be free. I believe history will show the United States as a country willing to take big sacrifices to give other people of the world the same freedoms we enjoy everyday. I know that is optimistic from your standpoint, but failing is not an option, no matter how much you trumpet your need to see us fail.
And if all these Muslims you refer to want the same things we want, then why don’t they speak up against the violence of these extremists? They remain so silent… it’s deafening.

  27. 24. 25. Freakin idiot! This is why you will always be at the bottom to the gene pool SF. Pitty.

  28. “The only reason the world feels the way they do is the propaganda that is thrown at them on a daily basis from the media…always negative, never positive.”

Of course it’s very easy for you people to attack the messenger and ignore the message.

I wouldn’t expect anything less from you guys.

I’m sure that’s the ONLY reason why the majority of the world thinks the US is the biggest menace to global peace…

    …because of the media.

    yeaaaahhh.

  29. SF, does your life revolve around polls? Do polls distinguish right and wrong? Do you believe in right and wrong? Good and Evil? Are there any absolutes in you brain?

  30. “Some of you military folks might understand this; think of Iraq as a battle being fought on bad ground. Like Gettysburg was fought on bad ground by the Rebs, we are in the wrong fight and the wrong place and the wrong time.”

    SF,
    1. I say that fighting our battle in the USA would be BAD GROUND.
    2. If the Islamic Nut Jobs want to battle me in the streets of Iraq, all the better. At least they aren’t busy in “hometown America”. I might loose my life fighting these,,,,people, but I will NOT CUT AND RUN.
    3. History lesson. Gettesburg,,,, GEN Lee choose to fight the Army of the Patomic on their terms. The Confederate army was moving blind, due to the cav scouts, GEN Stewart, playing around and having good sport at the norths expense. GEN Lee wanted to bring a crushing blow to end the war. He also found it in his heart that if it was GOD’s will for the South to loose it would happen there. I believe, the military genius GEN Lee was, he just wanted it all to END. Every advisor he had advised against attacking the high ground at Gettesburg.

  31. “‘m sure that’s the ONLY reason why the majority of the world thinks the US is the biggest menace to global peace:

:because of the media” Maybe your pecious world opinion is wrong,,,, Whos fuking side are you on anyway? I trust the guys trying to kill me more than the seditous traitors amoungst us.

  32. I can give you over a million reasons why we didn’t go after North Korea instead of Iraq. They’re the same damn reasons why we had so much trouble in Korea 55 years ago. It’s called the Red Chinese Army. There is one thing that McArthur got right and that was that if we didn’t push North Korea off the map back in the 50s, we’d have trouble with them later. With the Chinese army in Korea already, pushing the North Korean and Chinese armies all the way back to the river dividing the Korean peninsula from China would’ve put an end to all of the problems in Korea. Instead we settled on simply pushing them back to the prewar status quo of the 38th Parallel, when we had them on the run.

Now that Bj Billy and Madeline Notsobright have given Kim Mentally il the technology and materials to build a nuke, we’ll have to either live in the shadow of a belligerant psychopath with a nuke, or find some way to eliminate either him, the nuke, or both.

As for our withdrawal from Beirut, that was caused by a monumental failure to react to battle conditions on the ground. As an ROTC student at the time, I looked at the Marine Corps barracks defensive perimeter and realized they were inadequate. YOU NEVER give a vehicle an unobstructed path to a building even if it has gone through one check point. Also an M60 may be okay against personnel, but for stopping vehicles quickly, an M2 50 cal is the machine gun of choice. A guard post armed with the old M72a2 Light Antitank Weapon would’ve also stopped the vehicle and saved the lives of those Marines. As it turned out, one of my high school classmates was a survivor of the attack.

  33. M60 is out of date. The M240B has replaced it. The M2 is a great weapon for stopping vehicles. One or two rounds and a vehicle is demolished….

  34. Contrary to the popular opinion by the leftist politicians and drive=by media, the WAR in Iraq has been over for quite some time. In the context of past wars it was relatively quick and efficient. What continues now is the war on terror. Every day “foriegn insurgents” who would other wise be free to wreak havoc in the U.S. are being killed in Iraq. Regretably this war on terror has not been without scarifice by our “ALL VOLUNTEER MILITARY”. The best military in the world. History will judge GWB’s decision to fight the war on terror in a concentrated place like Iraq kindly. The leftist “hate America” history books and traitorist democrats will not.

  35. Michael you are right and that point is what the MSM, the Democrites, and the Lefties will not acknowledge, admit. That is the biggest front in the war on terror.

The Democrites care more about their political advantage than anything else.

  36. I’m sure that’s the ONLY reason why the majority of the world thinks the US is the biggest menace to global peace:

    :because of the media.

yes, that’s correct.. you misunderestimate their influence… after all, they have convinced a large number of people that pointing at someone nutsack constitutes unbearabable, horrifying torture…..

    they convinced you, didn’t they?

  37. mike,,, SF knows the MSM,,, they are his/her willing enablers for his/her recycled communism. LOL
