Karla Comfort is no Cindy Sheehan

Karla Comfort received a lot of looks and even some salutes from people when she drove from Benton, Ark., to Camp Pendleton, Calif., in her newly-painted, custom Hummer H3. The airbrush paid homage to her hero, her son 20-year-old Lance Cpl. John M. Holmason, and his fellow comrades who fell on Iraq’s urban battlefield.
Karla Comfort came up with the idea for the rolling memorial when she and her two other sons attended John’s funeral in Portland, Ore.
“I saw a Vietnam (War) memorial on a car, and I said to my son Josh, ‘we should do something like that for John,’ she recalled. “He loved Hummers.”
“I only had the vehicle for two days before we took it in,” she joked.
Karla Comfort gave Powell basic instructions on what to include in the paint job. But in addition to the image of her son in Dress Blues and the faces of the nine other Marines, there were several surprises. “He put a lot more on than I expected,” she said. “I think my favorite part is the heaven scene.”
On the left side of the vehicle, a detail of Marines are depicted carrying their fallen comrades through the clouds to their final resting place. The American flag drapes across the hood, the words, “Semper Fi” crown the front windshield and the spare tire cover carries the same Eagle Globe and Anchor design that her son had tattooed on his back.

Very cool! Right on, Karla, you go! Huuuaaahhh! I especially like the part where there is the heaven scene. Because there is no greater sacrifice, no greater act of humanity, than to give one’s life so that others may live, and live free.
I’d add only one thing, if there was room: A scenario of Hell, and in it, beside Osama and Zarqawi, would be Chapatraitor Kennedy, “In cold blood” Murtha, and Turban Durbin.

I too feel sorry for her Matthias, but at the same time I am happy to see that she is putting her personal feelings aside and honoring the choice that her son made in life.

…if it helps her to live with her loss. Everyone has his/her own way…
No matter what opinion one has about the war, I find it good that someone reminds the public that there is a war going on.
I visited Portland (where John came from) last year and met there a lot of very kind people, but I was frightened how few there was mentioned in the media about Iraq and the war.
War shouldn’t be perceived as “the normal state”… right?
PS: For all who didn’t know me before I was banned from this site- I’m from Europe.

).
I didn’t mature further (that the dilemma about perfection
I simply lost the interest in what I couldn’t influence/prevent anyway. There is quote in the bible (also used in Dan Brown’s “Angels & Demons”) that says sth.like “Please Lord, help me to bear what I cannot avert”… I think this describes best how i feel about the attitudes (and its consequences) expressed on this page.
There is a small ray of light, seeing the polls on this page. Looks like some of your fellow countrymen have matured!
