And The New York Times Goes For The Trifecta

By: Pam On: Jun/25/06 - 22 Comments

The New York Times is tanking in the market, but why let a little thing like that stop them from printing classified information on troop levels.

The top American commander in Iraq has drafted a plan that projects sharp reductions in the United States military presence there by the end of 2007, with the first cuts coming this September, American officials say.
According to a classified briefing at the Pentagon this week by the commander, Gen. George W. Casey Jr., the number of American combat brigades in Iraq is projected to decrease to 5 or 6 from the current level of 14 by December 2007…

General Casey’s briefing has remained a closely held secret, and it was described by American officials who agreed to discuss the details only on condition of anonymity.

Okay. I have a few questions to ask about this. The first being when are we going to crucify these newspapers for printing classified material? Secondly when are we going to crack down on these leakers to stop this?

Does the NYT have a @#$%^&* clue as to what reports like this do? Let me explain. First off the report gets people’s hopes up that the troops will be coming home soon. The terrorists see that the troops are starting to or planning on withdrawing and start stepping up their attacks. Now that the terrorists have stepped up their attacks because they KNOW they can’t duke it out with our troops, our troops end up having to stay there. Since the troops are now no longer able to come home as originally planned because they’re now still needed there, everyone’s morale takes a hit.

For people who claim to be the best and the brightest, these liberal reporters are either bloody stupid, or vehemently anti military. My guess is substantially both. Unless this is another military anti left propaganda campaign (ala Kuwaiti invasion) whoever leaked this information needs to have his military career ended by a General Courts martial, a dishonorable discharge, loss of all pay and benefits, and a nice stay at Hotel Ft. Leavenworth. As for the reporters who dsclose classified material, they should be treated to 3 – 5 in a federal penitentiary as well. If they’re going to act as spies, they should be treated as such. It’s amazing how little play Judith Miller is getting now that she spent a few months as a guest of the Feds after reporting a Non crime.

I second the motion. Put the reporters and leakers in jail, and shut down the NYT. Immediately.

    Please.
Typical reactionary conservative, attack the messenger – ignore the message.

This is news. Besides, you need to be remindeed that the public runs the military, not the other way around. We deserve to know what’s happening and what’s being planned, especially those plans concerning troop reductions.

Michelle is smaller than a gnat to a giant like the NYT.

Look at it this way: Every morning the students and future leaders of America at West Point military academy read the NYT to understand current events. They are not reading Michelle. (!)

    what’s that buzzing sound?

Yes! Leak top secret plans, details of national security programs, even the minutes of the meetings of the JCS to the NYT! The public, the world, and the enemy need to know! Yes!

We deserve to know what’s happening and what’s being planned, especially those plans concerning troop reductions. Wrong. Hence the word classified. We don’t have the right to know everything. You bet we are attacking the traitorous messenger. It will continue..

San Fran. You must be kidding. The public does not run the military. The government does. Because we live in an open society we elect officials that we trust with the secrets necessary to keep us safe.

The NYT has absolutely NO BUSINESS publishing this kind of information and by the laws as I understand them it borders on treason.

Information does eventually become declassified. It just may not be in our lifetimes.

Jail the leakers and reporters, now! SHUT DOWN the NYT, immediately. Only a punishment of this magnitude will send the message that the MSM needs to get.

The New York “Sewer” is also the only newspaper the students and future military leaders at West Point military academy read each and every morning. In fact, it’s usually delivered right to their dorm rooms.

Our best and brightest are reading the NYT everyday and value the information it gives and are even quized on it.

I don’t think Newsmax, Drudge, or even the Washington Times will ever come close to being as respected and established as the NYT is.

BZZZZZZZ….that’s the sound of insignifigant right wing blogs trying to take on the NYT.

    ——————————–

Check again, BonBon. The United States military is run and commanded by civilians (example: who is the commander in chief? Is he a civilian?). That’s why I always say that I support the US military men and women, but I do not support the civilian leadership. BIG difference.

NYT = birdcage liner or fish wrapper. Long ago lost credibility under the Leftist “leadership” of Arthur Sulzburger Jr. Losing readership, losing money, stock spiraling into the toilet.

Guess they figure they’ll take America down with them. F’ing traitors.

9- Please provide sources for that! I highly doubt that it is the only newspaper that the school subscribes to..oh wait, you mean paper…that’s right..they have the internet! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Oh GOD that is hilarious..

BTW..how is the stock and circulation doing at the times these days..last time I looked, it was own $70.00 for the year and was at an all time low…so much for the buzzzz

It’s you that needs to take a look at who they answer to..they do not answer to us on classified items..

No doubt the school also receives regular shipments of toilet paper. You know, if the Times would switch to printing on Charmin, we might have a useful application for it…

Only total jackasses could support such treasonous leaks (and the leakers). Why do they hate the military and the United States so much? Well, this should be the last nail in the coffin for the Al Qaeda Intelligence Agency (AKA nyt’s).

Peejz, my buddy was a West Point grad and I remember him telling me about the daily NYT dorm room deliveries.

Also, I recently rented “Surviving West Point: National Geographic” and they show and briefly discuss the daily deliveries of the NYT to the cadets.

My point? Our best and brightest read and are quized on the NYT. I don’t think the leaders at the USMA would support a “treasonous” paper.

You want an explanation for sinking print subscriptions for the NYT and other “liberal biased” newspaper media?

    one word.

    internet.

the rise of the ability to get news online is forcing print media to merge into the online media world.

Trust me, it’s NOT because “people are fed up with liberal bias”. Please. It’s because more people get free news online. Why pay for print when you can get it free?

and no doubt the school does not quiz the cadets on the toilet paper. (!)

Why is it that the left only refers to the military as the best and the brightest when they think it will bolster their point? Otherwise the military is referred to as the dregs of society who are too stupid or illeducated to get a real job? Hell even Murtha tried to claim that all of the new recruits were only going into the military because they weren’t able to get a decent job despite having the lowest unemployment rate in years.

If the jobs out there aren’t paying a decent wage, thank an illegal. If we had a few million fewer illegals, wages would go up to compensate for the demand for labor. It’s called free market economics. BTW many of these illegals are not working minimum wage jobs. They are making good money working in construction. One arrested here during one of his recent drug related crime sprees, was making $19/hour as a crane operator for a construction company at the time.

One other question to ask the liberals. If it’s okay for the NYT to print classified information that they have obtained illegally, why shouldn’t a paper be able to release/divulge all of your personal information that they have obtained illegally? The worst that could happen if they release your personal information is that your identity is stolen. The worst that can happen when they leak classified information is that soldiers DIE. Why do you defend their “Right” to print illegally obtained information that can lead to the death of soldiers while demanding that your personal information be kept sacrosanct? Isn’t that being more than a little hypocritical? I guess it’s all a matter of who’s biting the bullet. As long as it’s not them, liberals are all for the MSM publishing anything they can get their hands on. Or in the case of Dan Rather, anything that they can have someone fabricate for them.

Please do not disparage Dan Rather! He is an icon, a hero of the Left! We love Dan rather, revere him! We worship at the altar of Dan Rather!

Dan Rather was the only one who had the integrity to reveal what was happening in the Vietnamese war even before hero John Kerry made his courageous appearance before Congress!

Only the NYT has the kind of leadership and courage today that Dan Rather exhibited. We on the Left look to the NY Times to save America from the Neocons. We on the Left look up to our heroes: Ward Churchhill, Cindy Sheehan, Senator Durbin, Sen. Kerry, Senator Murtha, and one of the greatest of all, Senator Kennedy!

    San Fran Liberal:
You say the NYT rag is delivered to West Point and our best and brightest read it every day. You also say that they do not read Michelle. How in the world do YOU know that to be fact? Why do YOU believe that West Poit cadets are all liberals? Is it because liberals are always right?
This brings me to a favorite quote from Ronald Reagan:
“The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant: It’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.”
