Democrats Call For A Faster Retreat In Iraq Than The Insurgents Do

From this news report, it appears that the talks are working with the insurgents in Iraq. Does it mean that peace is just around the corner? Time will tell, but I see this as a step forward.

Eleven Sunni insurgent groups have offered an immediate halt to all attacks ” including those on American troops ” if the United States agrees to withdraw foreign forces from Iraq in two years, insurgent and government officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Note they said 2 years and not immediate withdrawl. A far cry from the Democrats in Washington!

The official said the insurgents have demanded a two-year “timetable for withdrawal” in return for joining Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s bid for national reconciliation.

The insurgents also said a condition for any future direct talks would be the presence of observers from the Arab League, Saudi Arabia and Iraq’s influential Sunni Association of Muslim Scholars.

These demands don’t appear to be outragous. If the goal is national unity, and it is, then proceed with the talks. I understand the hesitation on Al-Maliki’s part. Yes he is trying to develope an army and worries that it will not be functioning properly within the 2 year timetable, but let’s not discount the fact that if he gives a little, the insurgents may give a little more.

  1. Maybe the insuergents belong to the demacrap party:roll:

  2. yeah…or maybe they are agents of the republican party.

The public is more easily manipulated when in a state of war.

  3. Oops…

I was playing around with my “name” and forgot to change it back! hahaha…

  4. “…talks are working with the insurgents in Iraq”

    Maybe, hopefully, but probably not.

The groups talking about this “cease-fire” do not make up all insurgent groups in Iraq. A.Q. in Iraq and the other nasty ones have no part in this…

  5. 3: Naughty naughty. No fair posting under multiple aliases.

  6. yeah…that’s not the case here, though.

  7. Hmmm…Democrites calling for a faster retreat than the insurgents? Maybe the Democrites are a bigger long-term threat to America than the so-called insurgents?

  8. Did you hear about the new uniforms proposed by the Democrats? They’re based on the French army uniform complete with yellow stripe down the back of the top, brown stripe down the seat and convertible to a white flag in under 5 seconds.

  9. I’d like to see Traitors (those giving aid and comfort to the enemy) like Chapatraitor Ted, In Cold Blood Murtha, In the middle of the night Kerry, Turban Durbin, the leakers, and a good portion of the NYT staff (and the publisher) have a big red “T” tattooed on their foreheads to identify them for what they are. The scarlet letter.

No, I don’t mean dissenters. I mean those who have crossed the line from dissent to openly working to undermine our war effort, therefore giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

New Poll: “Suggestions that the United States engage in some type of gradual withdrawal increase significantly as educational level increases.”

Results showed that almost 1 in 3 want to “pull the troops out and come home,” as soon as possible. About the same number seem to wish for a gradual pullout. The remaining one-third back the present course or want to “finish what we started.” Only 2% want to send more troops.

  11. San Fran, idiotic polls do not make for good military stategies or tactics. Just because a bunch of people polled want one thing, that doesn’t mean they’re right. The British parliament essentially banned the private ownership of firearms as a means of reducing violent crime following a couple of horrific crimes. The actual result was that while the law abiding citizens turned in their firearms, the criminals kept theirs. The result was that the criminals now have nothing to fear and violent crime has soared in Britain as a result. Did the banning of firearms sound good on paper? Yes. Did it actually achieve the desired result? NO. When was the first commentary on the ineffectiveness on gun control as a crime prevention method written? In the 18th century by reputed father of modern criminology.

Honestly, a gradual pull out will eventually occur. However unless we want to have Iraq fall into the same lawless, stateless mess that was Afghanistan, we can’t withdraw until the Iraqi government is fully capable of securing itself.
