RV Poll #14 – Who would be your best pick for presidential nominee for the Republican Party?

After a very long hiatus, I’m back with the latest RV Poll. First let me just thank Peejz for doing such an awesome job here on this site as the sole author here. The past several months have been hectic for me with work and wedding planning. But, Chris and I were married on 6/24 (if interested, there are a few pictures here, here and here) – followed by an extended vacation/honeymoon and I *think* we’re settling back into reality now (that’s debatable). So thank you, peejz – - you ‘da best!

So..on with the latest poll…

Time for a 2008 Presidential Race gut check. The latest poll asks the question:

Who would be your best pick for presidential nominee for the Republican Party?

Your Options:
Rudi Guliani
Condoleeza Rice
John McCain
Newt Gingrich
Jeb Bush
Bill Frist
Dick Cheney
George Pataki
Mitt Romney
George Allen

Discuss your choice in this thread – the post is open for discussion on the topic.
(note: if you don’t have a horse in the republican race, don’t do the poll – - we’ll be doing the Democrats next, for those so inclined).

  1. Rudi or Condi would be my first choice equally.

There is only one thing I would have reservations about with Condi. I personally would be ready for a female president BUT I worry that there would still be too many people in the country who would not be. At this particular point in time I think it’s crucial that Republicans retain power. Rudi showed his true leadership ability on 9/11 and I wouldn’t have any reservations voting for him either.

One more thing on Condi. She’s a dynamo in my opinion. Smart, poised, informed, articulate, and the one thing the other potential female candidate (HC) lacks is honesty.

As for the other candidates listed I have both good and bad opinions on each. I would have to develop more of an impression of them in that position before commenting.

  2. BonBon, I’m interested in hearing how you feel about Guliani’s more liberal views.

  3. Alyssa. Gladly. Being a moderate republican I have no problem, within reason, on being lenient when addressing social issues. Having said that whenever I get into an argument with a true liberal I tend to argue more conservatively. On the issue of abortion for instance I hold that no one should have to have ‘back alley’ abortions because it’s illegal. On the other hand, abortion should not be a form of birth control nor should minors be allowed to have one without parental consent, even if it was the father who committed incest. There are school counselors and social services agencies as well as local police who are there to intervene were it to be that type of situation.

So, as far as Rudi’s liberal views on social issues are concerned, I have no problem. The main job of the federal government is to provide national defense and national security and those are things I am confident Rudi could handle.

  5. Peejz…I submitted a post twice here and it didn’t go through. Help?!? :???:

  6. Well, since that went through I’ll try once again.

Alyssa. I will gladly tell you how I feel on Rudi’s more liberal views.

Being a moderate republican I have no problem, within reason, on being open minded when addressing social issues. Having said that whenever I get into an argument with a true liberal I tend to argue more conservatively. On the issue of abortion for instance I hold that no one should have to have ‘back alley’ abortions because it’s illegal. On the other hand, abortion should not be used as a form of birth control nor should minors be permitted to have one without parental consent, even if it was the father who committed incest. 7. Sorry for the double posts but I’m glad they went through.

  8. Social Conservatives knuckledraggers will never let Rudi get far in the next presidential race.

He cheated on his wife worse than Clinton did. And wasn’t that same wife sick with cancer when he left her?

Also, his opinions on Abortion are a red-flag for Soc. Conservs.

He has too much baggage, guys.

  9. I don’t really care which party it is, but I hope someone runs a fiscal conservative. I can’t recall his name, but the mayor for a town near Phoenix would be perfect, the city was voted one of the top places to live in the US. Lean budgets, small government, pro business. I don’t care that he’s a democrat if he stays that course.

  10. He cheated on his wife worse than Clinton did. And wasn’t that same wife sick with cancer when he left her?
Also, his opinions on Abortion are a red-flag for Soc. Conservs.

No, and No. Few humans alive have cheated on their wives more that Billy BJ. His list in the dozens, perhaps hundreds. And no, Rudi’s ex. (Donna Hanover) did not have cancer.

Starting out today posting wrongness right out of the gate, eh?

Batter up…batting practice is now open! Smack! Oh, there goes another line drive over the center field fence!

  11. Shortly after Rudi left his wife, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It was for this reason (the cancer, not the affair) he gave for pulling out of the Senate race against Hillary – - – enter Republican candidate Rick Lazio, and..well.. the rest is history, as they say.

I don’t think the christian right would approve of a cheating cad as the party candidate, no matter what his qualities and qualifications are as potetial leader of the US…. moderates on the right? Probably. Independants? Most likely. But not the Jerry Falwells of the world.

  12. SanFran, it was Newt Gingrich that served papers on his wife when she was in the hospital with cancer. Guiliani announced he was divorcing his wife in a news conference without talking to her about it first.

  13. BonBon, thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. I agree with you for the most part. The only part I don’t fully agree with is this:

“…nor should minors be permitted to have one without parental consent, even if it was the father who committed incest. There are school counselors and social service agencies as well as local police who are there to intervene were it to be that type of situation.”

While I think we would all agree this would be the case in a perfect world, it would not always be possible for a young girl to feel safe enough to involve her school or the police. And a young girl in that situation has so much emotional turmoil that she may feel “responsible” for splitting her family up and sending her father to jail. Even while being abused by a parent, children still love and try to protect that same parent.

It’s not an easy situation, and I don’t have all the answers. I think it’s easy to sit on the sidelines and rail against young girls having abortions without parental consent (even in cases of incest) unless you’ve seen it happen firsthand.

  14. Ahhh, thank you Alyssa.

So Rudi DID cheat on his wife, but she never had cancer when he left her. That was Newt.

    Got it.

Still, my main point holds: Social Conservatives, if they don’t want to be hypocritical, won’t support a man who was unfaithful to his wife – AND went through a very nasty and public divorce.

    Rudi just ain’t gonna happen.

    It’s McCain all the way.

  15. Wow, Lisa and I agree!

  16. “Batter up:batting practice is now open! Smack! Oh, there goes another line drive over the center field fence!”

Could you act more retarded, Robert?

  17. John McCain will be president when HELL freezes over.

sorry SF, you don’t get to pick the next president, we do..and If we say it’s Rudy, then Rudy it will be.

    sucks to be you.

  18. Wait and see, Mike K.

Those wacko-fundies won’t let him get the nomination because of his stance on abortion and his extramaritial affair.

    —————————————————

    It’s McCain all the way.

The people will be looking for a war hero, and someone who isn’t a blind partisan. McCain will appeal to moderates and fence sitters becaue he is known to work with Democrats.

The people are tired of partisan politics.

    Sucks to be you.

  19. Rudi and John are tied on the Right Voices poll…

  20. Your opinion dosen’t matter…in case you haven’t noticed… WE elected the president, congress, courts…

you have no say…. tie your horse to Hillary and have fun riding off the cliff.

  21. at the end of the day, it sucks to be the President.

Really, who would want that job?

I think the mental health of any man or woman wanting to President of the United States should be suspect.

    heh.

  22. Lisa, that’s priceless!

  23. Could you act more retarded, Robert?

Bwaaa ha ha ha ha ha! You are so entertaining, SFL. Thanks for posting; you just keep serving up these 75 MPH fastballs right over the heart of the plate. I don’t know why you do it; posting such easy targets just sets up the next poster to smack them down. Your “straw man” points, usually taken out of context and ignoring what is actually said, are part of the faulty logic you use to compose your points. It is so obvious that I can only conclude it is done purposely; there is no other rational explanation.

Do you just enjoy pitching batting practice? Or are you doing research on the Conservative mind for your Sociology 1A term paper, and you are probing to gather information from the responses?

Or are you some genuinely altruistic human who just enjoys providing entertainment for others, enjoys imagining the smiles on our faces as we read your posts and break into therapeutic, healthy laughter?

Either way, keep ‘em coming! BATTER UP!

  24. I’ll try posting this again:

BonBon, thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. I agree with you for the most part. The only part I don’t fully agree with is this:

  25. I WANNA RUN FOR PRESIDENT!!!!
The world according to John Galt would scare the piss outta the libs.

  26. “WE elected the president, congress, courts…”

Thanks for reminding us all who is to blame!

PLEASE…I’m begging you…take ownership of the last 6 years!!

    ————————————————

Robert, you’re acting like a 13 year old – batting practice?!?

    Aren’t you 40 something?

    Come on, grow up man(!)

  27. if you cant live with a woman or a man and you divorce. well what is the issue it is between the divorcing parties. grow up! wtf people marry and bury. and go separate ways. the immaturity in the understanding of adult relationships on this web site is border line”mental retardation”. listen to what gindrich says! the passion-love of america; his grasp of history-the analysis of current events. and you all want to piss around with trivalities. grow up boys and girls. WE ARE FIGHTING A FUCKING WAR! accept it or go to sesame street! :mad::oops::roll:

  28. We need canadates that will end our nation out of the UN and realy uphold protect and defend the Constitution:cool:

  29. Mike Kilo, I can’t help but notice that John McCain is leading in RightVoices poll of the next republican nominee…

…if this is an indicator of things to come, looks like you’re staying home in `08!!

Too bad for Rudi “I cheated on my wife” Guliani.

  30. The Left should love Giuliani for cheating on his wife! It’s perfectly in keeping with their general lack of loyalty to anything, even their country!

If Giuliani was responsible for a few abortions, would the Left like him then?

  31. he is pro-choice…

  32. Well then if Giuliani came out with a speech comparing U.S. troops to Nazis and Stalinistas, asserted that U.S. troops are invading Iraqi homes in the middle of the night and terroriizing women and children, then released the details of some classified LE programs that are working to find and stop terrorists in this country from carrying out their attacks, thereby diminishing the ability of thes eprograms to work.

Why then, he’d be a hero to the Left! He’d be drafter as at least their VP candidate!

  33. “U.S. troops are invading Iraqi homes in the middle of the night and terroriizing women and children”

    Robert…in todays news:

“Two Women, Child Die in Raid by US Troops in Baqouba”

  34. Oh, so our troops are kicking doors in just to murder women and children! so you are right?

Oh, my? What shall we do now? Our troops are murderers, evil! The U.S. is evil! We have no legitimacy! Surrender now! LEARN to wear your turban, and grow your beard! Ladies, I mean cattle, pick out your Burkas!

SFL, why don’t you move to Tehran and join the Intifida?

  35. “”Two Women, Child Die in Raid by US Troops in Baqouba””

And what does this really mean? No doubt the MSM just wants to use creative headlining shock propaganda value here. But what is the real story? What really happened? What were the real circumstances? What is the full story?

Ah, they won’t tell you that. Never mind. You don’t need to know. The headline is enough, your mind is made up.

You need to move to Tehran. Change your handle to Tehran Liberal Jihadist.
