Again the MSM Misses The POINT

By: Pam On: Jul/20/06 - 23 Comments

This NBC News link is but one example of what I started feeling the other day. The MSN is trying to slant the coverage of what is going on. In this case, the viewer is led to believe that Israel is targeting children, but they aren’t. Where was Brian Williams when Israeli children were being killed? Is that okay because they are Jews?

I caught a bit of Larry King last night, and I swear they keep the guys eyelids taped up. He has been looking like he is bored for about a month, but last night he even sounded bored…He asked Christina Amanpour “when is this silliness going to end?”
Christina’s answers raised more questions in my mind..she proceeded to give timelines beased on previous conflicts involving Israel…just very matter of fact…”well historically they will fight for 10 days..” and it was at that point that I realized that for all the peace talks held, the only accomplishment has been bandaides preventing what we are seeing..not all bad talks, don’t get me wrong, but the world came to expect that Israel would just take it…Well guess what? She isn’t..so sit back because this is not going to be a 10 day crisis…We are watching Israel take on terrorists.

What has your take been?

No surprise here. Every time I checked the headlines yesterday it was the same ole, same ole. Lenanese wounded, women and children killed, blah, blah, blah. Not one mention of what the Israeli’s have dealt with for many years. Not one word about the suicide bombings which have led to many jewish women and children being killed.

I am so sick of this bias.

Israel is fighting the terrorists and I hope they really put a hurting on them. If the Lebanese don’t want their women and children killed they shouldn’t be hiding weapons in their houses and garages.

One other point that should be made is that this is a Clinton legacy. I heard that Howard Dean said that if the dems had been in power this wouldn’t be happening. Of course not, all Israeli’s would be dead and it would be a non issue. Here’s why. Think back. Remember when Clinton hosted Terrofat here in the US? Shook hands with him and Barack and he turned around and rejected a most generous peace offer? Do you all recall what happened after that? I’ll refresh everyone’s memory.

Terrofat went back home and from that day forward for the next two years there was at least one and sometimes two suicide bombings in Israel every single day.

Lesson to be learned Mr. Dean….DO NOT NEGOTIATE WITH TERRORISTS.

that’s all muslim animals EVER do is kill innocent civilians…..

now all of a sudden you are up in arms that the israelis are finally giving some back (unintentionally, unlike the animal muslim cowards)

Well San Fran….the women and children have no problem dressing up with bombs and killing innocent Israeli’s. At what point in time do you say enough and grow insensitive to one civilian population.

I am MUCH MORE sympathetic towards the Israeli women and children who have been killed the the main stream media forgets to mention.

A dead baby is a dead baby.

I don’t care if it’s mother is a jew, an arab, or a christian.

    it’s still a dead baby.

I would have said that too 10 years ago. Since then I’ve heard the rhetoric and seen the pictures. The campus they send their young boys too (ages 5-15) is sickening. They chant their hatred of jews and christians with an emphasis on Israel and the U.S.

I don’t think innocents should die because others don’t play nice.

Yes, war is NOT nice, is it, thanks for the reminder. Is that your point? Or is there more?

Over 300 dead innocents in Lebanon in the past week…
And a dozen dead innocents in Israel.

Besides…does anyone here REALLY think Israel will make any progress or defeat the Hezbollah guerrillas???

I think Israel made a big mistake taking the bait like they did, and and using excessive force for the return of their soldiers.

The militants in southern Lebanon WANTED Israel to attack them…being attacked and “oppressed” is how those guys stay relevant with their populations.

My point: This isn’t war, this is slaughter of innocent civilians.

Israel is using excessive force and has killed over 300 innocent civilians – men, women and children – in the past week.

Over 70 dead civilians yesterday, wednesday, in Lebanon.

Over a dozen innocents killed in Israel, too.

    For what?

What end will this current assault achieve?

Well it just might achieve the end of the slaughter of Israeli’s. Something for which you seem to be overlooking.

“Well it just might achieve the end of the slaughter of Israeli’s. Something for which you seem to be overlooking.”

I’m not over-looking that at all. If you read my comments, you’d see I’m giving civilian death figures for BOTH sides…

It just happens to be that Lebanon’s civilian death toll is a hundred times higher than Israel’s.

Ending the slaughter of Israelis? Are you confusing the Palestinian militants with the Hezbollah militants? I think you are. They are two separate groups.

    …Two separate conflicts, really.

Thanks Mike. I couldn’t have said it better.

San Fran. I understand the two different groups however they work more often than not in tandem to harass and murder Israeli’s whenever and wherever possible.

The 300 figure you give is just the most recent. You leave out the thousands these terrorist groups have killed.

This the fault of Bush and the Neocons! And all of us knuckle-dragging rightwingers! That’s the point!

Now if we just let the U.N., the Democrite leadership, and the Liberals take over and us Neanderthals (who do not understand the subtle, high-level viewpoint) would just get out of the way, the Left would solve this problem, everyone would be happy, and it would be the age of Aquarius!

    FAR OUT, man!

Both sides are in the wrong, and are responsible for the bloodshed and misery.

On this topic there are a few points that have to be brought up. There are at least three distinct differences between the two sides that are causing the lopsidedness of the casualties.

The Israelis are a modern Army. Hezbollah is a group of terrorists. Armies wear uniforms to separate them from the civilians, Hezbollah are terrorists who do not wear uniforms and hide among the civilians. This causes the civilians to end up getting caught in the cross fire.

While the Israelis are targeting Hezbollah, it’s hard to separate them from the civilians, Hezbollah, as a terrorist organization, targets civilians and uses highly inaccurate rockets to do it.

The biggest difference is that while the Israelis are evacuating their civilians out of the combat zone, Hezbollah is preventing theirs from leaving. Basically while the Israelis are evacuating the civilians to safety, Hezbollah is cowardly using theirs for human shields. Why is the collateral damage so high on the Lebanese side? Because Hezbollah is doing its best to cause as many civilian casualties on both sides as a means to rally international support against the Israelis. They know that in a toe to toe fight, they have no chance against the Israelis.

The real bitch of the whole thing is that had the 2000 UN peacekeepers actually been there to enforce the appropriate UN resolution and been armed to do so, Hezbollah would’ve been forceably disarmed and forced out of Lebanon years ago. Of course the Lebanese government agreed to disarm Hezbollah, by force if necessary, but with the threat of assassination, no Lebanese politician was willing to push the issue. Who is responsible for the civilian casualties in Lebanon?

Hezbollah who refuses to allow the civilians to evacuate the area?

The civilians who allowed Hezbollah to accrue over 10,000 katyusha rockets and hide them in their residential neighborhoods? (Do you think they’d have accrued that many if one person had let the Mossad know what was going on?

The Lebanese politicians who refused to abide by the treaty they signed to disarm Hezbollah?

The UN who refused to enforce its own resolution to disarm Hezbollah and force them out of Lebanon?

Or is it Israel who is responding militarily to an attack on their country by a group who has sworn to destroy them?

Personally, I think it’s a damn shame that this whole thing is happening, but when NGOs are allowed to commit acts of war with the complicit consent of the government of their base country, the attacked country is going to respond and the host country has no right to complain.
