I heard Hillary screeching at Donald Rumsfeld about how the war was being executed poorly in Iraq. She wouldn't know how to fight a war if she was in one. Hell, I doubt she even realizes that war was declared on us during her husband's presidency. I do have to agree that we aren't fighting this war like we should. We are trying to fight it in a politically correct manner. Sorry but war isn't politically correct. It has to be fought to win, not draw or cease fire. Want to end our involvement in Iraq as quickly as possible? Stop fretting over collateral damage and use the techniques used during WWII to suppress Germany's ability to wage war. We didn't precision bomb Dresden with hit or miss results. We carpet bombed it, and made sure we got our targets plus anything that happened to be in the same zip code. I can damn well guarantee that if we had levelled Fallujah the first time we had to go in there, we wouldn't have had to go in a second time. It also would've set an example for the cities of Tikrit, Basra, et al to look to as an example of our commitment to win the war. As long as we aren't willing to prove our willingness to win, the islamofascists will continue to view us as weak.

How could we have shortened this war and saved American lives? Bomb any city that put up significant resistance into the stone age. Allow the city elders time to decide to turn in the terrorists, or watch the city burn to the ground around them. As a historian, the loss of buildings that are over a thousand years old would almost break my heart, but the loss of life caused by dragging this war out because we are more worried about our image than winning is worse.
