Take Responsibility Prime Minister Fuad Siniora

The WaPo ran this riciculous piece: End This Tragedy Now Israel Must Be Made to Respect International Law, written by Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora. How odd he would chose that title for his propoganda piece, given the fact that Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah freely admitted that the Lebanese government explicitly knew that Hezbollah would invade Israel and abduct Israeli soldiers. He must have forgotten that when he wrote this:

A military solution to Israel’s savage war on Lebanon and the Lebanese people is both morally unacceptable and totally unrealistic. We in Lebanon call upon the international community and citizens everywhere to support my country’s sovereignty and end this folly now. We also insist that Israel be made to respect international humanitarian law, including the provisions of the Geneva Conventions, which it has repeatedly and willfully violated.
As the world watches, Israel has besieged and ravaged our country, created a humanitarian and environmental disaster, and shattered our infrastructure and economy, putting an intolerable strain on our social and economic systems. Fuel, food and medical equipment are in short supply; homes, factories and warehouses have been destroyed; roads severed, bridges smashed and airports disabled.

The damage to infrastructure alone is running into the billions of dollars, as are the losses to owners of private property, and the long-term direct and indirect costs due to lost revenue in tourism, agriculture and industrial sectors are expected to be many more billions. Lebanon’s well-known achievements in 15 years of postwar development have been wiped out in a matter of days by Israel’s deadly military might.

For all this carnage and death, and on behalf of all Lebanese, we demand an international inquiry into Israel’s criminal actions in Lebanon and insist that Israel pay compensation for its wanton destruction.

A refresher on what Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah had to say:

Interviewer: “Did you inform them that you were about to abduct Israeli soldiers?”
Hassan Nasrallah: “I told them that we must resolve the issue of the prisoners, and that the only way to resolve it is by abducting Israeli soldiers.”

Interviewer: “Did you say this clearly?”

Hassan Nasrallah: “Yes, and nobody said to me: ‘No, you are not allowed to abduct Israeli soldiers.’ Even if they had told me not to… I’m not defending myself here. I said that we would abduct Israeli soldiers, in meetings with some of the main political leaders in the country. I don’t want to mention names now, but when the time comes to settle accounts, I will. They asked: ‘If this happens, will the issue of the prisoners be over and done with?’ I said that it was logical that it would. And I’m telling you, our estimation was not mistaken. I’m not exaggerating. Anywhere in the world – show me a country, show me an army, show me a war, in which two soldiers, or even civilian hostages, were abducted, and a war was waged against a country – and all for two soldiers. This has never happened throughout history, and even Israel has never done such a thing.”

  1. why No One here will, and lets faces facts the solution is mass death. “so let us all get in line and say thank you god”.

Most of you will see the start of the third world war but almost no-one will see its end, that is a fact jack.

Buy land outside the mass population and buy guns

  2. The Americans and Israelis had an opportunity to build trust with Saniora, and of course, the squandered it

  3. Eddy- the man knew what Hezbollah was planning to do and did not stop it..who needs to earn trust in this equation?

  4. There is a simple truth in this. Lebanon failed/ refused to meet its obligations under UN resolution 1559 to disarm and disband Hezbollah as an illegal armed militia in Southern Lebanon. They permitted Hezbollah to stockpile arms, plan and execute attacks on Israeli sovereign territory. With that failure to enforce 1559, they became complicit in Hezbollah’s actions. It is unfortunate that so many Lebanese civilians are being made to suffer, but that is the result of permitting/ encouraging a terrorist organization to use your homes for ammo depots and rocket launch sites. They have yet to suffer as the German people did during WWII, and that was supporting their country’s army, not an illegal armed terrorist organization. Were the Israelis truly wanting to kill civilians, they would simply carpet bomb southern Lebanon as was done to Dresden during WWII.

  5. There is a simple truth in this. Lebanon failed/ refused to meet its obligations under UN resolution 1559
I almost spilled my drink… I really need to figure this out. Someone explain it to me. I thought UN resolutions were not allowed in any sort of “evidence” or citations. But now they are? Cause if we’re gonna go down the route of UN resolutions, I’m ready to list all the UN resolutions that Israel is in violation of…

  6. Start naming them Eddy. And while you are at it, look up 1559.

  7. Thanks for the invitation:

    1. Israel, our closest “ally” in the Middle East, has been the subject of 138 resolutions between 1967 and 2000. Citation
    2. Here are the list of violations. Citation.

    FYI #2 refers to Resolutions from 1955-1992 which are: Res. 106, 111, 127, 162, 171, 228, 237, 248, 250, 251… do I really need to continue? Just check the site.

    3. Thanks for having me re-read UN 1559. Peejz, when i first came on this site you ‘kindly’ told me that I assume too much for the UN… that the UN is wroth nothing (Robert calls it United Nothings)… So I don’t get it… now you respect the UN? Lebanon should abide by UN resolution 1559 (without condition). I’m just waiting to see when Israel starts abiding by the UN resolutions against it…

  8. Is it true that Israel is in violation of UN resolutions?

    I did check the site

Where did you get that we respect the UN? Because we don’t like the organization doesn’t make the fact that Lebanon is in violation of 1559. And had they abided by it, or at the very least, warned Israel of the kidnapping plan, this would not have escalted!

  9. THanks for the site Peejz–of course another site that turns a blind eye to Israel’s sins…

But regarding your question about where I get that you “respect” the UN is that FrmrArty is using 1559 as evidence. Had Israel abided by a handful of those resolutions (return of refugees, return to pre-1967 borders) [which of course you are welcomed to disagree that Israel should do that, i'm just saying that there are UN resolutions against Israel concerning those issues], perhaps none of this would have happened in the first place. Alas, “what ifs” are fun exercises but don’t have any real answers…

  10. 9- No it isn’t turning a blind eye to Israels sins, what it said was:

It is often claimed that Israel “is in violation of UN resolutions”. Some anti-Israel websites complain about “66 UN resolutions Israel ignores”. To respond requires a review of what UN resolutions have been passed on the subject of Israel and its neighbors, what is their actual content, and what have been the actions of all the parties involved, not just Israel.

It then takes you through a series of resolutions etc, and the piece continues by saying:

    The pattern was established:

    Israel is attacked.
    Israel defends itself.
The UN or other international group steps in to end the violence, calling for both sides to take certain actions to resolve the situation.
Israel attempts to comply but the intransigence and non-compliance of Israel’s enemies delays implementation.
Israel is blamed for failing to comply while the failures of Israel’s enemies are ignored.

All documented btw! And in ending the piece it asks:

In response to accusations against Israel based on UN Resolutions, the question must be asked: “Exactly what UN Resolution is Israel violating?” It is certainly true that many of the UN Resolutions have not been implemented, but is Israel at fault? Does Israel have to implement its obligations before others implement theirs? Does Israel have to risk increased damage, death and destruction with no corresponding action on other requirements of the resolutions? And what about resolutions where Israel has complied? What have been the results? Resolutions 425/426 regarding Lebanon led to Israel’s withdrawal in 2000 and Israel has been certified by the UN as being in full compliance. But attacks against Israel across that border continued and even escalated.

It really isn’t that complicated Eddy!
as for this: But regarding your question about where I get that you “respect”the UN is that FrmrArty is using 1559 as evidence
Last time I checked, although much to my dismay, we are still members of the UN, so I guess that would make FAO correct in citing the 1559 resolution!

You keep chasing your tail in the arguement.

  11. Peejz,
I just love reading your responses. It just cracks me up.

    1. Please identify in the piece how Israel has sinned against its arab neighbors? (since you claim that you are not turning a blind eye to Israel’s sins)
    2. I guess the UN is back into play.
    3. Israel was attacked many times and Israel has initiated attacks a few times as well. The first shot was shot by Israel in 1967.
    4. Finally, Peejz, that’s the injustice in your arguments and the conservative arguments. Everything is over-simplified. The reality is, life, relationships, foreign policy is complicated.

You can accuse me of “chasing my tail in arguments” but the reality is, this post has shown me your disdain for truth and appreciation for hypocricy. When I first brought the UN, you jumped on my case. But now, since it serves your needs, you cite it. Come on, Peejz, grow up!

  12. Eddy, you wouldn’t know the truth if it bit you in the ass.

I will spell it out for you..we don’t like the UN. We think the UN is worthless. Resolution 1559 is a good example of how inept the UN is. It is the responsibility of the UN to enforce the resolutions it passes. Just because we don’t like them and think they are worthless, does not mean that the leaders of countries are not bound to the resolutions. Lebanon was in violation of Resolution 1559. Hezbollah told the Lebonese leaders of their plans to kidnap the Israelis..the Lebonese did nothing to stop it…I bet the Lebonese wish that had now!

Israel….Where did I say they can do no wrong. I pointed out the fact that you said they are in violation of UN resolutions, when in actuality, you and the rest of the Arab world seem to feel that Israel must adhere to a resolution, while turning a blind eye to the fact that they were 2 party resolutions, and the opposite party is not adhereing to their end of the deal. Such as resolution 1559. Which brings us to foreign policy. At the present time, the Bush Administration is changing the course with which the ME is going to be dealt with. Gone are the days where we accept a quick fix for a long standing problem. There needs to be a lasting deal brokered where all parties adhere to the deal.

  13. Haha, Peejz, I wouldn’t know the truth if it bit me in the ass… That’s funny… because time and again I have seen your site get bitten in the ass with no response… funny…
does not mean that the leaders of countries are not bound to the resolutions
Then we agree that Israel has a responsibility to retreat to its pre-1967 borders and for the refugees to return.

And feel free to look through my comments in the last two weeks and you’ll see that time and again I have admitted the shortcomings of Arabs.

Also, please note that Lebanese is not spelled Lebonese
