(snort) I did have to laugh at this when I first saw it posted here.
Graciously, Gore tells consumers how to change their lives to curb their carbon-gobbling ways: Switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs, use a clothesline, drive a hybrid, use renewable energy, dramatically cut back on consumption. Better still, responsible global citizens can follow Gore’s example, because, as he readily points out in his speeches, he lives a “carbon-neutral lifestyle.” But if Al Gore is the world’s role model for ecology, the planet is doomed.
For someone who says the sky is falling, he does very little. He says he recycles and drives a hybrid. And he claims he uses renewable energy credits to offset the pollution he produces when using a private jet to promote his film. (In reality, Paramount Classics, the film’s distributor, pays this.)
Public records reveal that as Gore lectures Americans on excessive consumption, he and his wife Tipper live in two properties: a 10,000-square-foot, 20-room, eight-bathroom home in Nashville, and a 4,000-square-foot home in Arlington, Va. (He also has a third home in Carthage, Tenn.) For someone rallying the planet to pursue a path of extreme personal sacrifice, Gore requires little from himself.
Then there is the troubling matter of his energy use. In the Washington, D.C., area, utility companies offer wind energy as an alternative to traditional energy. In Nashville, similar programs exist. Utility customers must simply pay a few extra pennies per kilowatt hour, and they can continue living their carbon-neutral lifestyles knowing that they are supporting wind energy. Plenty of businesses and institutions have signed up. Even the Bush administration is using green energy for some federal office buildings, as are thousands of area residents.
But according to public records, there is no evidence that Gore has signed up to use green energy in either of his large residences. When contacted Wednesday, Gore’s office confirmed as much but said the Gores were looking into making the switch at both homes. Talk about inconvenient truths.
Gore is not alone. Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean has said, “Global warming is happening, and it threatens our very existence.” The DNC website applauds the fact that Gore has “tried to move people to act.” Yet, astoundingly, Gore’s persuasive powers have failed to convince his own party: The DNC has not signed up to pay an additional two pennies a kilowatt hour to go green. For that matter, neither has the Republican National Committee.
Maybe our very existence isn’t threatened.
Gore has held these apocalyptic views about the environment for some time. So why, then, didn’t Gore dump his family’s large stock holdings in Occidental (Oxy) Petroleum? As executor of his family’s trust, over the years Gore has controlled hundreds of thousands of dollars in Oxy stock. Oxy has been mired in controversy over oil drilling in ecologically sensitive areas.
Living carbon-neutral apparently doesn’t mean living oil-stock free. Nor does it necessarily mean giving up a mining royalty either.
Humanity might be “sitting on a ticking time bomb,” but Gore’s home in Carthage is sitting on a zinc mine. Gore receives $20,000 a year in royalties from Pasminco Zinc, which operates a zinc concession on his property. Tennessee has cited the company for adding large quantities of barium, iron and zinc to the nearby Caney Fork River.
The issue here is not simply Gore’s hypocrisy; it’s a question of credibility. If he genuinely believes the apocalyptic vision he has put forth and calls for radical changes in the way other people live, why hasn’t he made any radical change in his life? Giving up the zinc mine or one of his homes is not asking much, given that he wants the rest of us to radically change our lives.

All true. “A Very Inconvenient Truth”. I have posted the info about Gore’s Zinc mine for years in various venues when Gore has come up, but not one of the Gorebots have ever acknowledged it, or even addressed it.
No doubt this will be ignored by the Left here too. They have no answer for it. It doesn’t fit into their religion, so they just ignore it and stay in denial.
This is nearly as classic as Laurie David, flying around the country in a gulfstream….putting tickets on SUV’s.
classic liberal buffonnery
“They have no answer for it.”
Yes, you’re attacking the messenger and not message.
It’s pretty f*cking weak.
**YAWN**
…and not THE message.
Yes, you’re attacking the messenger and not message.
The messanger doesn’t heed the message he delivered. He painted a doomsday scenario for us, he put himself out there. It just goes back to the “do as I say, not as I do.”
The messenger is an arch H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E.
Hey remember…John Kohn “dosen’t own an SUV”
still attacking the messenger and not the message, huh?
lame and ineffective.
I had to do it, because it hasn’t been said in 45 minutes
But seriously, I tip my hat to Al Gore for preaching about conservation and enlightening us to Global Warming, if adding a barb about the little Banana Republic (aka Florida) election thing back in 2000. Give it a rest already will ya?
I don’t tag the environment concerns to Democrats, just as I don’t tag being a “good” Christian to Republicans. I am trying to “become Carbon Neutral” and will vote for _______________ :?::?: in 2008.
Yup, save the earth, but don’t you dare touch Streisand’s $10 million California mansion!
9- I credit you with trying. That’s all people can do.
Actions speak louder than words. He can scream that the sky is falling all he wants, but if Al “chicken little” gore doesn’t bother to restrict his own activities how can he expect others to take his gloom and doom scenarios seriously? It’s not surprising SFL doesn’t get it. Credibility seems to be another word left out of your abridged dictionary.
Yup. Besides, we already debunked Gore’s message in another thread. This thread is about the messenger.
I’m really sure an uneducated, simple-minded clod such as yourself really “debunked” scientifically accepted fact and a globally accepted message…
yeeeaaah.
You just don’t get it, do you?
’m really sure an uneducated, simple-minded clod such as yourself really “debunked” scientifically accepted fact and a globally accepted message…
WHAT do you know about my education, background, and experience, you buffoon? NOTHING, that’s what. which is about as much as you know about most of the topics you post on.
REFUTE the NASA data I posted, SFL! N-A-S-A. Yeah, those right-wing Neanderthals, who don’t know anything.
I’d like to produce a movie that tells the story of Al Gore the EcoFraud Hypocrite. Detailing all the things we’ve talked about on this topic and more.
I’d call it “A Very Inconvenient Truth”.
Al Gore has ownership in OXIDENTAL PETROLIUM and all the time he was VP he rode around in a limo with its INERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE the same thing that this blabering idiot wants to eliminate and dont forget his jet AIRFORCE 2 its kind of like those hollywood celberties decrying all of us from driving SUVs then attending the dumb award programs in those gas guzzling limos and LEONARDO DECAPRIO who flew from L.A to washington D.C. in a private jet then drove in a gas guzzling limo to a park to give a impassionate SAVE THE EATH speech on earth day Its like game show host BOB BARKER oppsing furcoats then showing off his fancy leather shoes they are all hypotcrits:mad:
It’s preferable to be a knowledgeable hypocrite than to act consistently on a false premise. The hypocrite has at least taken the step to understanding, even if his implementation is imperfect.
What still stuns me when reading rightwing blogs, is the broad incapacity of the posters to seek out for themselves the credible sources on scientific issues (in their defense, the fossil fuel industry runs the most effective propaganda campaign in history). On issues of even marginal comlexity, we at some point must rely on others. Learning how to find those people is key, whether its car repair or the future of humanity.
On climate, avoid all news sources, left and right. Instead, google ‘NCAR’, ‘Hadley Centre’, ‘Max Planck Institute’. They’ll steer you to the inconvenient truth.
A few years ago some enviromenatlsist said they were going to go around on their bicycles and ticket peoples SUVs now just imagine this one of those granola munchers comes along on his bicycle and places a ticket under the window of some big guys SUV accusing him of contributing the global warming and wrecking that planet the big guy comes out of his home and the next moment the eco-freak is staggering around with his bicycle wrapped around his neck his ticket book in his mouth and his granola bar up his nose WOW FUNNY TO SEE:razz:
The hypocrite has at least taken the step to understanding, even if his implementation is imperfect.
“What still stuns me when reading rightwing blogs, is the broad incapacity of the posters to seek out for themselves the credible sources on scientific issues…”
If you read everything on the Global Warming thread on this site, you will see a rather high degree of understanding.
Gore’s idiot propaganda has been well debunked.
Robert -
Try Hadley Centre.
Try NCAR.
A google search will take you straight to them. They’re the gold standard on climate change, massively funded and beholden to no one except their respective governments. I’ll check into your Gore refutation thread if I have time, but truthfully, it’s groups like NCAR and Hadley that have to be addressed for any refutation beyond the shallowly political.
Robert -
Found the Global Warming thread. If I were to boil your position down to “Commie plot”, would that just about cover it? Where should I begin the debunk….
Water vapor is indeed a major factor in climate forcing. Why then are you saying the small relative contribution of CO2 irrelevant? Is it solely because the number is small? Remember we’re talking 4-9F of climate forcing due to CO2 out of total greenhouse forcing on the order of ~300F (roughly the diff between the coldest temp ever recorded on Earth and the dark side of the Moon). The 95% figure for water vapor forcing is typical Junkscience exaggeration. Figure 85% max. That leaves ~45F forcing due to other gases. All ballpark figures of course, but it illustrates the scale.
The paleontological and computer modeled relationship between CO2 and temperature is quite well understood. Humankind’s contribution to the global CO2 budget has been directly measured for 50 years and sampled from ice cores back 700,000 years. No mystery there.
Average atmospheric water vapor content remains within a narrow range for any given atmospheric pressure and temperature. Excess humidity becomes precipitation, while lower humidty is fill through evaporation. These means greater CO2 induced warming leads to greater H2O warming as well.
Is this the part where I’m labeled a “Commie”? Let’s see, and I don’t care about the environment really, but just want to control everyone by… tricking you out of your SUV? Funny, I hear Rush Limbaugh say something exactly like that once ca. 1991, back before the new wore off off rightwingnut talk radio.
Robert-
“Global Clooling”.. Another example of the utter lack of integrity of the anti-scince types and the tragedy of those who fall for it instead of finding the truth for themselves.
The fact is little was known about global temperature trends before the mid-1970s. In 1975 a National Academy of Science report stated as much, “Not only are the basic scientific questions largely unanswered, but in many cases we do not yet know enough to pose the key questions.” Scientific speculation continued into the 1980s when models used to predict the climatic impact of a thermonuclear war were used as the basis of the first models to predict the effect of the combusion of fossil fuels.
All this is exactly the type of healthy give and take expected in a new field of science. But to attack modern global warming theory based on the science of three decades ago is silly. It’s part of the ongoing massive propaganda campaign by Big Oil and their massively funded erffort to create confusion and fear about science and scientists, to keep you addicted to their product at any cost.
To the person who said in the Global Warming thread we’re coming out of an interglacial, true, but see
Another one, the CO2 record over the last 400K years from the Vostok ice cores. Note CO2 barely reached 300ppm during the entire period. Today, we’re at 380ppm. Note also the virtual lockstep between CO2 and temperature
If you rad nothing else this month, read the new LA Times series “Altered Oceans”. It will be interested to see if there is any environmental issue that can get the rightwing fringe concerned, or if their hatred of all things environmental is utter and complete.
p.s. Sorry about the above mangled links, first urls I’ve posted here.
If Gore sold Oxy or the zinc mine (inherited from his father’s estate) do you think they would just go away? Do you think someone more environmentally conscious than Gore would buy then, convert them to making organic tofu? Or, do you think it’s better for the environment to have Gore (or his proxy) at the stockholders meeting?
Please, spare us the convoluted attempts to justify Gore’s hypocrisy. That’s almost like trying to argue that Satan is really doing good by defining and reminding us what evil is all about. Pure sophistry.
His “message’ in An Inconveneinet Truth is BS propaganda designed to propel him back into the limelight and revive his sagging political career. Plus make him some fast cash in the Michael Moore way.
Gore himself is an arch hypocrite, and is also a traitor (recently travelled to Saudi and gave a speech for big $ badmouthing the U.S. and providing propganada material plus aid and comfort for the enemy).
He’s a pos, okay? There’s no reasonable way to justify, rationalize, or sanitize his actions. Let’s just leave it at that.
Robert-
Well, the fact these investments were Gore’s father’s estate is sufficient for all but hard core partisans. Yes, we understand you think he is “Satan” and a “traitor” and a “pos”. I’m sure that logic prevails in every rightwing circle jerk debate it’s used.
You are saying he is not a Hypocrite? (actually you have already stated he is).
You are saying he is not a traitor? What would you call someone who goes over to Saudi and gives a speech badmouthing and udermining the U.S., for money? He’s not just somre yahoo, he’s the former V.P.. His words no doubt were of great propaganda value to our enemies. Such benfit provides them with aid and comfort. Is that not the definition of a traitor?
You are saying he is not a pos? Where I come from, a BS artist, hypocrite, and traitor definitely qualifies as a pos.
Treason? You lost me. How is it treason to go to an ally and restate what the US administration has already itself said and has already been widely reported around the world? In fact, is it not beneficial for a former VP to publicly echo the Bush message in a friendly Arab country, that this was an abberration and not representative of US government policy or the American people?
“Aid and comfort”? That’s just silly.
How about we identify whoever created the culture in our military that allowed it to be debased in this fashion, rather than doing what’s been done throughout this war, which is pushing the blame down to the grunts? How about someone at the top taking some personal responsiblity for a failed war? It will be interesting to see how Bush’s crew — who have gotten every soldier, every dollar, every weapon they’ve asked for to prosecute this war — will try to spin its failure as the fault of liberals. As Iran without a Saddam next door moves into prominence in the Middle East and terrorism explodes from every Islamic neighborhood across the globe, how will ‘Rove and the Swiftboaters’ play it as anyone’s fault but their own?
Former Vice President Al Gore told a mainly Saudi audience on Sunday that the U.S. government committed “terrible abuses” against Arabs after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and that most Americans did not support such treatment.
Gore said Arabs had been “indiscriminately rounded up” and held in “unforgivable” conditions. The former vice president said the Bush administration was playing into al-Qaida’s hands by routinely blocking Saudi visa applications.
“The thoughtless way in which visas are now handled, that is a mistake,” Gore said during the Jiddah Economic Forum. “The worst thing we can possibly do is to cut off the channels of friendship and mutual understanding between Saudi Arabia and the United States.”
Gore told the largely Saudi audience, many of them educated at U.S. universities, that Arabs in the United States had been “indiscriminately rounded up, often on minor charges of overstaying a visa or not having a green card in proper order, and held in conditions that were just unforgivable.”
That’s the Bush message? Don’t think so. Nice try, Ministyra.
Next…
“…terrible abuses… –Gore
“…I view those practices as abhorrent.” –Bush
A terribly abuse. An abhorrent practice. you pick which is worse.
All this skates past the the only important fact, that Bush is personally culpable for creating an environment conducive to the debasement of a fine military and of brave young American troops. At every level both foreign and domestic, Bush has shown himself to be utterly bereft of intellect and moral fiber, unfit to govern and wholly incapable of leading. In the murderous business of war, Bush’s failure as president made the Abu Ghraibs and the Hadithas inevitable.

uh…isn’t the topic of this thread Gore’s hypocrisy? Now you’ve tried to turn it into a hate Bush thread?
Go post it on Daily Kos or DU or moveon.org. You’ll have much better success there.
“uh…isn’t the topic of this thread Gore’s hypocrisy? Now you’ve tried to turn it into a hate Bush thread?”
After you took it from a ‘Gore’s not green’ thread to a ‘Gore is a traitor’ thread?
“Go post it on Daily Kos or DU or moveon.org. You’ll have much better success there.”
No way. They’re much too smart for me over there.
You apparently have a serious self esteem problem if you believe they are too smart for you. But you can overcome, and I think you’ll do just fine! Keep your chin up! I’ll even help you get started: Just remember:
Hate Bush. Bush bad. Gore good. Democrat good. And so on…
Robert,
why are you wasting your time with this moron? and his implication with the “They’re much too smart for me over there” is that we conservatives on RightVoices are much more dumb…..
did I see through your little quip there, Ministyra? not really funny, or witty.
Al Gore is a ridiculous asshat who, like Klinton and Kohn, pretty much lies with each and every breath that takes. This is the moron who spoke in front of tobacco farmers and bragged about how he worked on a tobacco farm, then railed against smoking in front of health care audiences.
Is there anyone alive who dosen’t see that Democrats are nothing but finger in the air hypocrites, who will do and say anything to acquire or hold on to power????
Mike Kilo,
“…will do and say anything to acquire or hold on to power…”
I didn’t know Karl Rove was a Democrat. How did I miss that?
Just think of how much electricity is used by the projector in the theater where GOREDUHS junk science film is being show and yes CELULOUS A BYPRODUCT FROM THE TIMBER INDUSRTY IS USED IN THE MANAFACTURE OF ALL FILM THAT INCLUDES MOVIE FILM HOW MANY TREE WERE CUT DOWN SO GORE COULD MAKE THIS JUNK SCIENCE FILM AS WELL AS ALL THOSE OTHER DUMB ENVIROMENTAL THEMED MOVIES INCLUDING THAT CRAP FILM HOOT:razz:
wow, good one Ministyra.. you got me there!!
What’s next, the “Liar, Liar, Pants on fire” comeback?
How about, “I know you are, but what am I?”
Ministyra…are you still under the impression that pointing at ball bags constitutes “torture”?
Only in our ritalin-fuled, soccer mom-infested, time out society would some idiot think so.
I hope you are one day, taken captive by the muslim animals….you’ll be praying the worst thing that is done to you is a little naked twister.
you dick.
#36: Yeah, I knew he was making that implication. I guess when the Daily Pos trolls get bored they come over here to try to stir things up.
I,ll bet AL GORE dos,nt have a hybrid in his motorcade:roll:
snowy egret, looking back on your previous posts, you’ve made it perfectly clear of your Ivy league education. Please save your remarks for a more appropriate forum… perhaps Collegehumor.com? To make it perfectly clear… You. Make us. Look bad.
Weak. This article outright lies. Zinc mining stopped in 2003. FOUR YEARS AGO. Yet this makes it sound like its still going on. No wonder right wingers are such lemmings, if I were fed and believed crap like this makes it out to be, then I might be too.
Bob,
Your source on the zinc mining operations? The Bore campaign? What aobut the Occidental stock? Gore’s constant flying in private jets?
C’mon Bob, you have to do better than troll in, drop a comment, and troll on.
44- There are no lies. He is making money off the company and the company is still in business.
#44 Bob the pont is that the zinc mine, and the pollution of the nearby creek, was happening while Gore was the Environmental Guru in the Klinton Admin. In other words, he was all for regulations EXCEPT when it impacted his interests.
Are you actually incapable of comprehending that?
please provide documented evidence of gore lying. i know that he was said to have created the internet when in fact he said he was involved in procurring government assistance for its fundng. when you dig a little deeper, you find the actual story.
List of Gore Lies
This needs updating, because it is older and there have been more since, but it’s a good start for you, drew.
