10 Years Later – Suspect arrested in JonBenet death

JonBenet RamseyA man arrested in Thailand is being held in connection with the slaying of JonBenet Ramsey, law enforcement officials said today.
Federal officials familiar with the case, who spoke with the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the man was being held in Bangkok on unrelated sex charges.

A source close to the case identified the suspect as one-time resident of Conyers, Ga., and said he was a school teacher.

The source said that authorities had been focusing on him for some time and that Patsy Ramsey had been made aware prior to her death on June 24 that his arrest was being pursued. Source

From the day in 1996 when JonBenet was found dead in the basement of her home in Boulder Colorado, the Boulder police and a large proportion of the world’s media believed that her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, were responsible for her death. Authorities need to be careful in interrogating this guy: 1.) make sure he’s not some nutcase looking for 15 minutes of fame, 2.) make sure they follow the rules in the interrogation (unlike John Couey when they failed to read him his rights doh!).

  1. I doubt this is the real killer. He is trying to dodge hard jail time in Thailand, what better way to escape than to confess to this one? Also, his ex-wife says it is geographically impossible for him to be involved in this murder.

  2. For once I agree with the hundreds, thousands of inner city mothers whose murdered children, largely due to darker skin and socio-economic status, never receive any kind of justice, hell sometimes not even an investigation.

The way these parents paraded this girl around was SICK, like a living popsicle for pedophiles… but because they are white, and rich, we all have been racking our brains for 10 years to solve the case….. in the same time period, thousands of Philadelphians have lost their children to rape, kidnapping and killing and NOTHING is done about it.

If I never hear the name Ramsey again, it will be too soon.

(did I just turn into a liberal or something?)

  3. Hopefuly he will get the punishment he deserves and not end up getting a contract from some hollywood scumbag offering to do a movie about him:roll:

  4. Mike Kilo, I agree 1000% with you.

  5. #4.. Oh no… do I have to re-evaluate my opinion then?????

  6. Ha!

A prime example of the existence of “Two Americas”, Mike.

One America for the well to do and one for the not-so well to do…

Do the hundreds or thousands of missing poor and/or minority children get the same media attention that JBR did?

    No.

  7. well, I’ll grant you that, to a degree, but not as much as you probably think.

The “two americas” of which you speak has more to do with financial determinants than racial, would you agree?

That being said, how can a rural, poor, backward hillbilly from the mountains of Pennsylvania ever expect to make it in this unfair world of “two americas”?

the answer is simple.. I worked hard, served in the military, educated myself, graduated from college, travelled, learned, all without anyone’s help…

so, though I agree that these cases are treated differently… don’t get carried away with your “two americas”.. that “other” america is largely a self-made prison……

  8. Well said Mike. I’ve noticed on many occasions that the rich liberals love to tell the middle class they have to pay for the poor.

  9. “The “two americas”of which you speak has more to do with financial determinants than racial, would you agree?”

Yeah, I would agree that the “Two Americas”has more to do with financial reasons than racial ones. That said, the rates of poverty among minorities like blacks and hispanics are much greater than that of the white majority…

All one has to do to see an example of this is drive though wealthy suburban neighborhoods and then drive thought the opposite; the inner city `hoods. Job opportunities, transportation, housing, education and so on are vastly inferior to their wealthy counterparts.

  10. “I’ve noticed on many occasions that the rich liberals love to tell the middle class they have to pay for the poor.”

Well BonBon, I’m the exact opposite of rich and I still think we should all share the burden of supporting our nations poor with safety nets and to provide opportunities and incentives for education and jobs.

Why not? We make things better for ALL of us when we help out the least of us.

  11. But giving the “poor” money to have additional children out of wedlock, and enough food money for ring dings, ho-hos and strawberry soda….isn’t exactly “helping” now, is it?

I’ll say it again, there is NO SUCH THING as POOR in America.

sure, there are those of little means, of little education, etc.. but they have things that the real POOR in other parts of the world don’t, have never, and will never have…let’s examine.

Welfare money = monthly CASH payments
Food stamps = with which to buy the ho-hos and ring dings
Subsidized housing = projects, section 8, etc.
    subsidized medicine = medicaid, etc.
    cable TV
    Cars
    Cigarettes
    Malt Liquor

no, go to a Bangladesh slum, a Kyrghistan mountaintop, an Ulaan Bataar Orphanage and tell me if you’ll find any of the above……

  12. I know what you’re saying SF but I had to stop and say to myself many times that charity begins at home. I was working very hard to put my son through college and a few tax breaks here and there would have been very beneficial. Although I once officially qualified for welfare and food stamps I never used that as a solution. I worked instead. But the reason I was working two jobs was for myself, NOT to pay for the poor.

That is why I see liberal policies from rich politicians being so wrong. They don’t understand the difference between someone struggling and someone taking.

  13. “but they have things that the real POOR in other parts of the world don’t, have never, and will never have”

    Again, I agree.

America is super-wealthy and even our own poor arguably have it “better” than the majority of the rest of the world…but, so what? Does that mean that we should do nothing to help them advance further?

I think a good start would be to focus on making poor families stronger and make education our number one priority, even more important than the fight against “terror”.

  14. “They don’t understand the difference between someone struggling and someone taking.”

I know what you are saying, but it isn’t always that black and white. There are those who can’t work. The disabled, the elderly…

Not every poor person is a fat, lazy 20/30 year old who refuses to “get a job”, you know. (!)

And then there are those who need help getting back n their feet, and with public assistance, they do.

Clinton really did the right thing in making a “third way” solution for welfare reform. Strengthen the system, but add work requirements for those who are able. A liberal policy survives with conservative principals.

    Imagine that.

  15. well, a good way to make poor families stronger, is to give them an incentive to remain that…FAMILIES.

and as soon as your teachers unions and political goons get out of the way, we can rescue children from those baby-sitting gulags you call public schools.

however, this is NOT more important than the fight against muslim animals…education, real estate, etc. mean nothing…IF YOU ARE DEAD.

  16. and SF, the “disabled” and unable, represent such a small number of those on assistance, that even the most hardened conservative would have no problem with extending benefits to those people.

  17. what we cannot stand is the 300 pound, 34 year old woman at the save-a-lot with the 6 kids by 6 different fathers and the cart full of cookies, donuts, ring dings, ho-hos, strawberry soda, cakes, chocolate bars, potato chips, etc.. that WE ARE PAYING FOR…..

  18. “well, a good way to make poor families stronger, is to give them an incentive to remain that:FAMILIES.”

Short of requiring people get licenses and training before having children (which sounds like a really good idea to me!) I’m not sure what we could do the make families stronger.

But it’s something we all need to think about, because the family unit, especially in lower income `hoods, is in shambles and contributes to our national downward slide.

I don’t think eliminating public schools is a solution, though. How would poor families afford to send their kids to private schools AND put food on the table, etc…

    —————————————————

“however, this is NOT more important than the fight against muslim animals”

    I think it is.

If the “war on terror” is going to be this multi-generational long fight, we need competent citizens. And, I have to point out that the odds of terror attacks are SO SMALL, while it’s important to worry about it and be proactive, I don’t think we need to devote all these resources and money into the effort for something that has such a small risk.

    ———————————————–

“and SF, the “disabled”and unable, represent such a small number of those on assistance, that even the most hardened conservative would have no problem with extending benefits to those people.”

I’m curious as to what the REAL demographics are…I’ll do some research and get back to you.

  19. Precisely. No conservative would mind helping the truly needy. Nor would I. That is only what welfare should be for. There are too many abuses as it is. I didn’t know Clinton put in the work requirements but that’s a good start.

I also think Mike is right in that education is good, very, very good but without making the war on terror our first priority we won’t have the choice. After all, dead people can’t learn

  20. Again, SF thinks the likelihood of a terror attack is “so small”…

oh, I disagree with that completely.. we are years, maybe months, maybe weeks away from Beslan-style horrors and explosive devices on subways, etc.. right here in the USA.. our lax border enforcement and unwillingness to profile or surveil has ensured that there are muslim cells, right here..ready to go.

it will happen, it’s only a question of when.

  21. School vouchers could be the answer. When you privatize the school system and offer vouchers the schools suddenly are in competition. Competition means higher standards. Take tax money and attach it to the child. Let the parent (guardian or competent social worker) choose the best school for the child.

Capitalism could work well in the education system in our country if the libs would only give it a chance.

  22. Yeah, I don’t understand their life and death obsession with public schools..it really is mind-boggling….

Our system is STILL publicly funded.. it just isn’t publicly pissed down the toilet.

  23. “Capitalism could work well in the education system in our country if the libs would only give it a chance.”

Eliminating public schools is a non-starter, a dream by the extreme right wing.

It’ll never happen, and if you ask ANY republican politician if they support the elimination of public schools they will say “no”.

Let’s keep our feet on the ground…

  24. Totally disagree with you on this SF. Yes, the politicians will say no because everyone is AFRAID to take that risk, that first step. However, school voucher programs have been tried in some districts and have been very succesful.

Home school statistics are higher as well and there’s a reason for that. When you get rid of the garbage you leave only the quality.

My feet are and have always been firmly on the ground

  25. SF, seriously, what is your obsession to sticking with this failed system?

on any given day 50% of philadelphia’s public school “students” are absent

of the ones who attend, brave the metal detectors, and avoid being raped in a hallway, the average senior reads on a 6th grade level.

In my opinion this is tantamount to child abuse.

  26. in my opinion, it’s yet more proof of the racism of the left.

  27. “on any given day 50% of philadelphia’s public school “students”are absent

of the ones who attend, brave the metal detectors, and avoid being raped in a hallway, the average senior reads on a 6th grade level.”

I wouldn’t argue that situations like that aren’t happening, but then why is it also true that you can go to public schools in Farmington Hills, MI or Piedmont, CA and see 100% the exact opposite?

The whole system isn’t “bad”; just in economically depressed areas are the public school students in any real danger.

So would you weaken the entire system because of a few bad apples?

  28. no, we help the entire system by rescuing those abused children

  29. …by eliminating the whole public school system, even if it’s working for the majority of students?

Vouchers can be compromised on. I will admit that, even though it’ll be a tough sell on Liberals – it’s possible.

Scraping the public school system as a whole is impossible and improbable.

  30. it’s not scrapping the system as a whole, but it is scrapping the failed districts…philadelphia being cheif among them.

I have told people here that I could solve the problems of the philadelphia public schools in ONE SHOT…. close them down, chain them shut, and burn them to the ground.

then, go out to the 67 other functioning counties in pennsylvania and ask for volunteer families to take in 1 philadelphia student for the school year.

You would get more volunteers than you have students (proving all the black racists out there wrong)..the students would get clean air, they would learn, they would be fed, and they wouldn’t have to duck bullets.

    so what’s the problem?

  31. I’ll tell you the problem.. the combination of teacher’s unions, black racists and misguided liberals will NEVER allow it..they will just beg, borrow, and steal more of our money, and piss it down the drain that is the inner city public school.

  32. #30, not a bad idea Mike! Totally improbable, but not bad…

I wonder how many teachers work in the Philly school district. Are you willing to let that many people lose their jobs? It would be an economic disaster for their families and their communities…

  33. what makes you think they even DESERVE a job? seriously.

Of course I would relocate them throughout the state also.

drastic times call for drastic measures.

not to mention that you average rural PA district spends about $4,000 per pupil, while philly spends $8,000….you think there is some savings there????

  34. Only a liberal would see a district that spends double the money and gets none of the results and says it can be improved by……MORE MONEY!!!!

  36. “Only a liberal would see a district that spends double the money and gets none of the results and says it can be improved by::MORE MONEY!!!!”

Then why after spending a trillion dollars on Iraq, the way to solve the problem is to spend another trillion on it? Conservatives, the fake neo types, are now the big spenders, and leave the liberals in the dust when it comes to wasting our tax dollars – and oh yes, a year later after Katrina, and many blocks in New Orleans still do not have electricity.

  37. oh really, veggiedude? Tell me, military mastermind, which branch you served in.. (101st cabbage brigade dosen’t count)

Yeah, and what is Ray “Chocolate City” Nagin, Mr. don’t evacuate the city, Mr. Leave 1,000 school buses empty and unused…what is HE doing to get the electricity back on?

    hmmmmm?????
