Reiner: Gibson, Come Clean on `Passion’

I knew it would only be a matter of time before the truth came out over the reaction (hypocricy) to Mel Gibson and his drunken remarks. Remember, this is a town that thought nothing of Kate Moss getting caught snorting cocaine, but thought it terrible that companies fired her, as they felt it hurt their image. Now comes Rob Reiner with words for Mel. If I were Mel, I tell him where to shove it!

The actor also must acknowledge that “his work reflects anti- Semitism,” particularly the 2004 hit movie “The Passion of the Christ,” Reiner told Associated Press Radio.

“When he comes to the understanding that he has done that, and can come out and say, you know, `My views have been reflected in my work and I feel bad that I’ve done that,’ then that will be the beginning of some reconciliation for him,” Reiner said.

Reiner, however, said Gibson also must do some “major soul-searching.”

“It’s not a matter of just apologizing for some words you’ve said,” said Reiner, who is Jewish. “It’s to really understand why it is you’re anti-Semitic and where those feelings came from.”

“I believe that people can be redeemed and people can change, but that’s going to be a very long process,” he added.

I wonder if Reiner ever fully financed his own film and turned a $25 million investment into $287 million? I didn’t here 1 person come out of the theater blaming a Jew. This is nothing more than sour grapes.

    Imagine This:

Mel Gibson is stopped for driving while intoxicated. Under the influence of alcohol, bombed out of his mind, Mel Gibson says, “Have you noticed the Jews? They have blessed mankind immeasurably for centuries. They have been the source of great philanthropic endeavors such as hospitals, museums, social programs, college scholarships, etc. Although horribly persecuted in the Holocaust, they have never the less remained largely a forgiving, loving, and generous people…Officer are you a Jew?…You aren’t? Too bad! What a thrill it must be to be directly descended from Abraham, the friend of God.”

Asked for a reply to Mel’s statements about the Jews, Rob Reiner replies, “Eh!…He was DRUNK! Everybody knows you can’t judge a man by what he says when he is drunk!”

    True.

Good point Mel. No one is excusing the words Mel spoke, but it is not up to us to judge him either. He is an alcoholic and obviously in need of help. All kinds of follywood people have been excused for far less, but this has everything to do with the fact that Mel made a heck of a lot of money on a contoversial subject.

IMO, Reiner is using his faith as an excuse at this point. How about all the practicing Jews that are offended by Reiners stance on abortion? As a rule, practicing Jews do not support b/c nor abortion (unless the life of the mother is threatened).

Unless you’re talking about a Reformed Jew; then it’s all about preserving the culture and the traditions in most cases.

So Meathead Reiner has apparently appointed himself the arbiter of justice and integrity, and defender of Jews?

Where has he been all this time that Hezbollah has been attacking Israel? I sure haven’t seen him quoted anywhere supporting Israel. Plenty of opportunities here to defend Israel if you are so inclined. Is Meathead another Leftist/Liberal that apparently supports Hezbollah?

What seems to be the case here is that Meathead just doesn’t like Mel Gibson, and has come out of the woodwork to kick Gibson while he is down. If that is true, Meathead is just showing once again what a pos he is.

    I don’t care.

I don’t care what Mel Gibson’s opinions are, nor Rob Reiners. They make money to entertain, just the same as a monkey on a grinder organ. I will give them the same consideration as that monkey’s opinion, plain and simple.

10, Peejz, thanks. Funny how those like Meathead will put on the mantle of defenders of the jews when it suits their purpose du juor. But the rest of the time they are nowhere to be found on the subject.

    Another Hollywood Liberal h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e.

Exactly Robert. I shouldn’t say that I am surprised by this from Reiner, but I must admit..3 weeks later? Come on! That is nothing more than sour grapes.
