Some Democrats Want To Know Where The Money Is
The New York Daily News has this piece about Chicago Congressman Rahm Emanuel, who leads the Democrats’ efforts to retake the House and Senate. It seems that Mr. Emanuel has a problem with the fact that Howard Dean and George Soros and MoveOn.org are not doing their part.
“In the 2004 election there were some very active players who, as far as I can tell, have now decided they’re neither going to be involved in the field, advertising or anything,” Emanuel told the Daily News. “Do you know where they are?”
In 2004, Soros and other wealthy Democrats poured more than $200 million into so-called 527s, which supplemented the campaign of John Kerry. Political campaigns are legally barred from coordinating strategy with the independent groups, but they vastly strengthened the Democrats’ field organizing.
This year, there are no important national 527s supporting the Democrats, with many donors disillusioned by both Kerry’s defeat and how little infrastructure their 2004 spending left behind.
This is what MoveOn.org had to say:
MoveOn.org’s Washington director, Tom Matzzie, responded sharply to Emanuel’s criticism, saying the group had made an early impact in key races and plans to spend $25 million this year.
“I don’t like him litigating election business through the newspapers. I think that’s in poor taste,” Matzzie said of Emanuel. Emanuel - who is in a similar feud with Democratic Party chief Howard Dean over the issue of spending on congressional races - expressed particular frustration with Soros, who personally spent more than $23 million in 2004, and wrote recently of the importance of “a resounding Democratic victory in 2006.”
Doesn’t like it in the press? Too bad. Maybe had the problem been addressed when it was first talked about last November, it would not be in the press! Key Democrats have been upset, to say the least, that Howard Dean is not protecting areas that need to be protected. I understand that Dean is trying to grow the base, but you need to keep what you have and add too it. Don’t risk losing one to gain another.
I went to MyDD and found: Whiner of the Cycle: Rahm Emanuel
I’ve noted on multiple occasions the whiny tendencies of Rahm Emanuel. Rather than running on a progressive winning set of messeages, Rahm has decided that primping before the press as ‘Rahmbo’ while whining about progressives will give him a win-win. If we win the house, he’s a hero. If we lose the House, it’s because of bloggers/Al Sharpton/Lamont/ Moveon/Soros/Pelosi.
Again with the talking to the press? Whiny? I don’t think so. This man is looking out for his party. His voice is the voice that should be listened to. And further in the rant, he calls him a liar? Come on! Ignorance in all it’s glory! Especially when he ends the rant this way:
Rahm Emanuel is not a party strategist. He is an extremist ideologue, a Bourbon Democrat, and he will be a huge problem for progressives moving forward. Progressives would do well to develop our own set of strategic coordinators, rather than thinking that someone like Rahm Emanuel is at this point anything but destructive and selfish.
We just may get a third party afterwards. Sure, it will be filled with ignorance, but the left has no one to blame but themselves!

I understand, peejz. I do. I know where your feelings are coming from.. especially with a huge election year coming up. You almost want the left to pull it together. It’s like golf between my dad and I - - he won’t play with me until I lose my handicap…. “It’s no fun beating a golf reject” he says.

I laugh every time I see the left-wing wackos call themselves “progressives”. What a euphemism for wacko. I guess lemmings trudging toward the edge of the cliff could be called progressives also.

Isn’t Emmanuel the third-highest ranking Democrat in the House, being the head of the DCCC?
