Senators Tom Coburn and Barak Obama have proposed S.2590, legislation that would create a single website with access to information on nearly all recipients of federal funding. The bill cannot proceed, however, because one or more Senators placed a “secret hold” on it.
I have not studied the entire bill, but it appears to be something that all of us could benefit from. Bloggers are trying to figure out who the senator is, that place a secret hold on this bill. TPMmuckraker said:
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee unanimously passed the measure July 27th, and S.2590 seemed to be speeding on its way to full Senate passage when, in the dark of night, an unknown Senator placed a “secret hold” on the bill. According to Senate courtesies, the bill will never come to a vote as long as the hold continues.
Why resort to the ’secret hold’ option?
