The Path To 9/11 is an ABC mini-series set to air beginning on Sunday, September 10, and concluding on Monday, September 11.
The miniseries will take viewers behind closed doors at the CIA, the FBI and the White House and into the world of Richard Clarke, Madeleine Albright, Condoleezza Rice, Dick Cheney, Sandy Berger and CIA Director George Tenet, among others. Viewers will follow the international manhunt for elusive bomber Ramzi Yousef (Nabile Elouahabi, Eastenders) and meet several key players in the 9/11 saga, including: John O’Neill, the career FBI agent who spent years zealously chasing bin Laden; then-ABC newsman John Miller (portrayed by Barclay Hope, Stargate SG-1), who interviewed bin Laden; Emad Salem and other key Muslim informants who aided the U.S.; and Ahmed Shah Massoud, commander of the Northern Alliance, a crucial American ally and the person bin Laden feared most.
The 9/11 Commission Report instantly became a national bestseller when it was published in July 2004. Writer Cyrus Nowrasteh (The Day Reagan Was Shot) uses this historic document as the basis for a powerful story with action as gripping and far reaching as the source material itself. Shot in Toronto, Morocco, New York and Washington, DC, actors portray the famous and infamous, along with the formerly anonymous and often heroic people thrust onto history’s stage. Beginning with the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center and ending on the morning of 9/11, the miniseries draws on detailed information from the Report and other sources to take viewers on an unforgettable journey through the events that presaged that fateful day — to understand what went right and wrong, and what can be learned from this crucial eight-year period.
Now, rumor has it that this will be a blame Clinton movie. I think we should wait and see it before passing judgement, after all, it is just a movie.
As long as it’s factual, let the chips fall where they may. Clinton didn’t cause 9/11, his administration simply facilitated it. Were it not for his administration’s continued efforts to avoid actually doing anything that might prevent repeated attacks against US citizens and assets worldwide, as well as his continual search for good press, 9/11 might have not occurred. With Jaime Gorelick’s wall to prevent the sharing of intelligence with law enforcement, and Clinton’s general loathing of anything military, the terrorists were more or less free to plan and execute any form of attack that they might imagine with little fear of discovery or retribution. With the rapid withdrawal of the US forces from Somalia (rapidly becoming a major new venue for radical Islamofascists) after the loss of less than 20 soldiers, Osama bin Laden and the entire Muslim world became acutely aware of the US’s limited willingness to take casualties.
Unfortunately, unlike in past wars, we’ve also become overly concerned with causing enemy casualties. We’d have never put up with the nonsense going on in Iraq during WWII. We thought we were being targeted from a 1500 yr old monastery in Italy, so we bombed it to rubble. Perhaps if we had used the same strategy on Fallujah as we used on Dresden, we wouldn’t have had to go in a second time. Massive show of force can cause a lot of casualties in a VERY short amount of time, however in the long run it actually saves lives by eliminating the enemy’s will to fight as well as his numbers. It eliminates resupply. It also encourages the local population to resist being used as human shields. How many town elders are going to allow terrorists to use their towns as bases knowing that it will be a death sentence to the town?
Very well said FAO. Do I think WJC is to blame? No…but he, GHW Bush, Reagan, and Carter all share a part of this tragedy side by side with GWB. We have allowed ourselves to believe that these peace deals are the answer. As soon as the deal is struck, we move on, not paying attention to the fact that the deals are being broken before the hands have even finished shaking! We seem to think that the UN is this wonderful org., that is accomplishing things, but if Iran isn’t a wake-up call to the failure of the UN, I am not sure what is!
Just wait the hollywood left are going to be demanding the heads of the director and producer of this series they dissing their great traitor heros these reptiles gush over:razz:
I STILL think Clinton had a role in 9/11. If Clinton had fought terrorism and not Kosovars…
Rocky, Clinton had a vital role in 9/11. You are right about that! The majority of the warning shots were fired in the 90′s. We didn’t heed the warning.
You fucking people amaze me. Let someone point a finger anywhere near your beloved nazi Bush and immediately you tag them as moonbat leftwing nutjobs. Yet, you are quick to point a finger at Clinton. Let\’s point a finger at colonial Brittany – had they have won the revolution, then there wouldn\’t be an America to attack. Let\’s goo way back to Neanderthhal days and blame them, hadn\’t they figured out how to make tools, then no tools would have been around to build airplanes and thus no airplanes to smash into buildings.
Give me a mother fucking break. There was nothing grand about the Spet. 11th attacks. Other than a well organized plan to board planes in the morning, nothing special took place well in advance. It diidn\’t take any special skill, only money to buy tickets, and a whole lot of lying on the hijakcers part.
It is also amazing how many business dealings that The Bush-Walker clan had with the same people they are accusing of being terrorists. Amazing how many handshakes Bush Sr., Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and Cheney have had with Saddam himself. Yet, this is all Clinton\’s fault? Because he \”didn\’t do anything?\” Yet iif memory serves correctly, wasn\’t it Dada Bush who didn\’t have the balls to finish the job in Iraq the first time? Why did Regan allow Bush and Cheney to do business with known terrorist organizations like the Taliban (who incidently, up until the last month before we went into Afghanistan, we were shelling billions of dollars to in SUPPORT of their government)?
Why did the 9/11 commision find glaring problems with the fact that months following up to 9/11 Rice and the rest of the Administration and its allies failed to heed the warnings?
Also, if memory serves correctly, didn\’t our winderful do-nothing congress spend the last 2 years of the Clinton era trying to impeach him when 87% of Americans didn\’t want it? I mean, if these 9/11 attacks were so complex in planning, shouldn\’t we be pointing at our entire body of congress for worrying about destroying a man for lying about a blow job instead of focusing time and energy on protecting te country?
You people fucking disgust me.
6- nothing disgusts me more than someone that can’t read and that would be you. Had you read the post, you would see where I put blame on the the president’s going back to Carter. The majority of the blame does fall on Clinton as the 90′s were a period of time that we were attacked more than once. As for Bush Sr. not finishing the job? 2 part answer:
1. He should have finished what he started.
2. You are acknowledging that Saddam had ties to Al-Qaeda and you would be correct.
6.
Now there’s a sane, rational post. No really- how do you get off being such an uninformed hypocrite?
Take your Bush-Walker comment. Do you know that Clinton has many of the same business and finacial connections as Bush senior?
Good sir, what is truely disgusting is that folks like you who are ignorant of the facts or choose to ignore them in leiu of some idealogical talking points. This goes for both Dems and Reps alike as you folks lie in the same bed it seems.
Well said Ted. FYI, I did not know that about the financial connections of Clinton…Thanks.
If you read my post, my comments were “As long as it’s factual let the chips fall where they may.” The truth is we were hit multiple times during the Clinton administration. His administration’s policies hampered the FBI and the intelligence (CIA, NSA, DIA) community’s ability to share information that might prevent another attack. He did nothing to prevent another attack and his decision to withdraw troops from Somalia prematurely not only emboldened the Islamofascist terrorists (according to Osama Bin Laden) they left Somalia in a state of flux that may require a significant lay out of material support to the Ethiopian Army to neutralize and stabilize the country. Let’s face facts, Christian Ethiopia is not going to allow the entire country of Somalia to fall into Islamofascist hands. We need to go in and close the port of Mogadishu to incoming shipping to prevent the Islamic Courts group from resupplying. The radical Islamic Courts group has taken control of a large portion of Somalia to include the capital of Mogadishu while the legitimate government has been forced to flee to one of the outlying cities. The Islamists have been going around to the smaller towns and dispensing Islamic “justice” to bring the people into submission. Surprisingly this information hasn’t been widespread in the MSM, while the Israeli – Hezbollah conflict had been front page with the Israelis being demonized for defending their borders and demanding the return of their kidnapped soldiers.
As for 9/11 requiring nothing more than the ability to buy some tickets and lie, that shows your total lack of historical knowledge in this regard. These people didn’t fly in on Air Egypt, hop on their respective flights and then highjack them. Some of them were in this country for a year taking VERY EXPENSIVE flying lessons, obtaining illegal identification from multiple states, and getting instructions from overseas. This was a well funded plot that took a fair amount of time to plan and execute. Failing to recognize that the terrorists are well funded, frequently well educated, and highly motivated to die for their cause will only result in more attacks of this sort. UNREAL is a perfect name for you. Your inability or unwillingness to grasp the historical facts of the situation, truly is unreal.
Unreal… guess what…
HALLIBURTON!!! BOO!!!
Several of the actual people involved in the events described in ABC’s show have come forward and said that it describes them doing the opposite of what actually happened or doing and saying things that they never said or did. In other words, the people actually involved in the real events are saying that show is falsifying what actually happened. While it might make for “good TV,” it misrepresents the actual events. When the people who were actually there are saying that the show is misrepresenting the truth, look out.
i wonder what Clinton would have done had he got a memo called “Bin Laden determined to attack inside U.S.”?
12- And yet they haven’t seen the movie:roll:
14- he would need to be remined of who Bin laden is
13: IIRC, shiloh, that PDB was a recap of things Clinton was told and contained no new information.
(Long time no see, by the way. What’s been going on?)

just got out of Guantanamo. waterboarding, electordes, sleep & light deprivation – ya know – the usual.
as for what is accurate & what is not–
“Mr. Berger’s character is also seen abruptly hanging up during a conversation with a C.I.A. officer at a critical moment of a military operation. In an interview yesterday with KRLA-AM in Los Angeles, Cyrus Nowrasteh, the mini-series’ screenwriter and one of its producers, said that moment had been improvised.
“Sandy Berger did not slam down the phone,”Mr. Nowrasteh said. “That is not in the report. That was not scripted. But you know when you’re making a movie, a lot of things happen on set that are unscripted. Accidents occur, spontaneous reactions of actors performing a role take place. It’s the job of the filmmaker to say, ‘You know, maybe we can use that.’ ”
what one chooses to believe & what not will, of course, as always, fall along partican lines.

6: I too would have liked Bush 41 to have finished the job he started in 1991. However, we deferred to the UN’s mandate that Iraq withdraw from Kuwait and accepted terms of surrender, which was good enough for them at the time.
Sasha
do you think if the first Bush took Iraq in ’91 we’d still be there fighting an insurgency?
Depends if 41 would have been fool enough like the current monkey-in-chief 43 to disband the Iraqi army and police.
Look folks, we have a genuine walking, talking rectum back at RV…
welcome back shitloh
FUCK YOU.
20: Good question, dude.
I think the landscape was a bit different then than now. In ’91, the Iraqi people had a sense of liberation and empowerment and were ready to act on it. There wasn’t an 11-year span of time for Hussein’s regime to cultivate a network of insurgents. Had we supported the Iraqi people through an overthrow of Hussein and the establishment of a more benevolent form of gov’t…my guess is no, because the terror infrastructure would not have been there in full force as it is now. But, unfortunately, we kind of abandoned the people after we encouraged them to overthrow Saddam. So it’s a bit more difficult today to get that support from the Iraqi citizenry than it was in ’91.
Just my thoughts on the matter.
Some of these foul mouth liberals need to know that from the moment they curse us, they’ve doomed themselves to being considered nothing but whining, disgusting losers to whom we give absolutely no credibility.
Wise up and grow up.
Rumsfeld & Cheney, in their own precious way, have implied that anyone disagreeing with their policies are nothing but whining, disgusting losers to whom we give absolutely no credibility.
George Bush: dividing, not uniting us since 2000.
No, it isn’t GWB that is doing the dividing..it is simplistic bloggers, kos, atrios, think progress, firedoglake, that can be thanked for that.
what was i thinking? –
i fully understand that you honestly believe that Bush has no responisibilty for the negatives this country has found its way into in the past 6 years.
We are trying to change the tones in the state capitals – and turn them toward bitter nastiness and partisanship.
Grover Norquist
28- You weren’t thinking. If you were, you would not have tried to blame Bush in 1 paragraph and in the next, use a quote from a different person.
The nastiness started with the 2000 election and from that day forward, it has been nothing but nastiness. It wasn’t Bush that created it, but he makes a wonderful scapegoat for everything and everyone!
There is something that is very stark and to me very obvious to me in these posts. People are blaming Bush for 9/11, others are blaming Clinton.
It’s all bullshit!
Try placing the blame where it belongs: on Osama bin Laden and the men who planned and perpetrated the act.
Right on Ted.
31.
Well SFL, we reached a milestone I think!
Really, I don’t place blame on Clinton or Bush, even ancillerary. This was 55+ years of our foriegn policy in action. No, I DON’T mean that “the big bad USA had what’s coming to them from the poor middle-easterners”. What I do mean is that it was par to see these folks as a lesser threat, and so they got poushed off on the back burner.
I can agree with that.
