This is what I see as a win win situation for Hillary. Rumor has it, she will stay in the Senate to take over as Senate minority leader in 2009. Terry McAuliffe has other ideas:
Terry McAuliffe, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee and a close friend of the Clintons, believes she will be able to see off all challenges in primary elections should she stand. “She is very tough and very determined. Nobody is going to think she is not strong enough on national security. If she decides to run, clearly she will have the necessary resources and she will give people reasons to vote for her.”
Among them, McAuliffe believes, will be former President Bill Clinton. “He is a gigantic asset. He is probably the most popular politician in the world.”
She can not win in 08′, no matter how hard the press tries to sell her as a sure thing! What she can do is become the power player in her party and on the national scale! This would be a good move for her.
Does Terry McAuliffe get up and take a stupid pill every morning? How can he say that people won’t think Hillary is weak on national security? How can he think that she’s going to give people reason to vote for her? She’s the most polarizing politician in America and having Bill isn’t an asset either. Look at how many Dems that Bill has gone out to campaign for who have died at the polls. Bill may be the most popular politician in the world, but this isn’t the world. This is the US and it would take next to nothing to remind everyone in the bible belt and other states as to his legacy of lies, deception, adultery, perjury, and a number of other serious character flaws. Hell, he’s such a reprobate that the Arkansas Bar Association revoked his license to practice for 5 years. How screwed up morally can you be to have a Bar association kick you out?
Think Hillary’s going to get the military vote? How about the veteran vote? Want to throw a monkey wrench into the Dems chances with the Labor vote, run ads in Massachusetts reminding them about the Clinton administration’s Justice and HUD Departments’ legal assault on the legal gun maunfacturers. Think the UAW workers working for Colt, Smith and Wesson, and Winchester who lost their jobs because of the junk lawsuits that were filed against the companies by the Clinton Administration will vote for her? Want to see how many Louisiana residents you can get to change to being Republican? Advertise the report put out by the Army Corps of Engineer contractor that asked for an additional $800,000 to build the levees in New Orleans properly when it was discovered that the bedrock necessary to properly anchor them was 30 ft further beneath sediment than expected when the bid was entered. The Clinton Administration refused to allocate the additional money betting that the levees would hold even if not properly anchored. That was a major reason why they failed. Advertise the FACT that the BUSH administration had allocated more money to maintain the levees in New Orleans in the 5 years before they broke, than the Clinton Administration did in 8 years to include building them (improperly). Also include in those ads how many of the members of the New Orleans Levee Board were convicted of misappropriating government funds, and how much of the money to repair and upgrade the levees went to other projects like the Mardi Gras Fountain. They wasted more money allocated to buttress the levees on that fountain that it would’ve cost to build the damn things properly in the first place.
There’s a reason why Bill worked to get over 3000 military votes in Florida in the 2000 election disallowed. He knew they were going to be overwhelmingly for Bush because of his administration’s military policies.
No, he may not take a stupid pill, but he knows not to bite the hand that fed him.
