Rosie O’Donnell: ‘Radical Christianity is Just as Threatening as Radical Islam’
H/T to Newsbusters for this link to The View. Rosie responded to Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s comment that militant Islam is a grave threat, O’Donnell stated that “radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam in a country like America.” The comedienne also attacked America’s response to 9/11:
O’Donnell: “We were attacked not by a nation. And as a result of the attack and the killing of nearly 3,000 innocent people we invaded two countries and killed innocent people in their countries.”
Video clip (44seconds): Real (1.19 MB at 225 kbps) or Windows Media (1.37 MB at 256 kbps), plus MP3 audio (198 KB)
The piece began with Rosie inquiring as to whether anyone watched President Bush’s address to the nation. She then read from the speech:
O’Donnell: “He had one sentence that I thought struck me. I thought, what did everyone think? ‘The safety of America depends on the outcome of the battle in the streets of Baghdad.’ And I would say the outcome, really, of America really depends on the battle in the streets of New Orleans, that that city is still decimated and $303 billion have been spent fighting this war. If, literally, a third of that money was put into Katrina and facilitated with honest people who knew how to do it, we wouldn’t be in the situation we’re in.” O’Donnell may be unaware of this, but $110 billion has been designated for the Gulf Coast clean-up. My math could be wrong, but I believe that’s at least a third. Co-host Joy Behar, a fellow liberal, chimed in with this question:
Behar: “Don’t you think it’s clear at this point that they don’t care about New Orleans? If they cared about it, they would have fixed it already.” The fact that she believes New Orleans should be completely “fixed” in a year is besides the point. ‘The View,’ a program that is supposed to represent the perspectives of women, is now almost completely in the control of Move-On-type liberals. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the show’s token Republican, meekly submitted to the liberal onslaught. She replied simply, “They should give more.”
O’Donnell saved her harshest comments for the war on terror. After Hasselbeck had the temerity to mention the threat of extreme Islam, Rosie responded with her slap at Christianity:
O’Donnell: “And just one second, radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam in a country like America.” This proved too much for even Behar. She replied, in a somewhat bewildered manner:
Behar: “But, but Christians are not threatening to kill us. There’s that difference. This group is threatening to kill us.” Hasselbeck also appeared surprised by O’Donnell’s comment. She maintained, “We are not bombing ourselves here in the country.” The comedienne had a clever retort for this:
O’Donnell: “No, but we are bombing innocent people in other countries. True or false?” There are two points to be made here. First, apparently Rosie believes that the federal government is a branch of “radical Christianity.” Secondly, has she never heard of World War II and the innocent civilians that unfortunately died in the struggle against Nazism? Was that war wrong? Showing a loose grasp on international politics, O’Donnell stated that “Iraq and Afghanistan never threatened to kill us. Ever.” Again, perhaps Ms. O’Donnell is unaware of exactly where the Taliban trained and plotted. Finally, on the subject of terrorism, no Rosie segment would be complete with out left-wing, bumper sticker rants. She informed her audience of these grand pronouncements:
O’Donnell: “We will never bring peace at the hands of war….As a species we have to rise above it.” O’Donnell: “But in life, you have two choices always, faith or fear. A government should lead by faith, never by fear.” O’Donnell quickly added that, when she said faith, she didn’t mean Christianity, but faith in “humanity” and “equality.” It appears as though the honeymoon is over. Viewers should expect more hard-left, blame- America comments from Rosie O’Donnell, “The Queen of Nice.”
Update 18:07 by Matthew Sheffield. “I love how she acts like Elisabeth Hasselbeck is the dumb one, when
she’s spouting this crap: ‘Afghanistan never threatened to kill us…We
will never bring peace at the hands of war.’” Mary Katherine Ham adds.

I just knew that Billy Graham was behind the “shock and awe” after all. Or is it the Catholic Church’s air force that bombs Afhanistan and Iraq? Now I’m really confused…yes, I guess it’s clear Rosie, the real problem is Christians, the United States, and George Bush. The Islamofascists were just minding their own business until we goaded them into their self-defense mode.
Are these Hollywood idiots having some kind of contest to see who can make the stupidest, most absurd, most utterly brainless public statements?

according to her bio,
Education:
Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania; attended briefly
Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts; attended briefly
Yeah I can see how she is an expert on history, foriegn affairs and policy, terrorism, national intelligence, religion, economics, and foriegn policy. Attending a couple months of college will give that to you!
My question is why anybody with half a brain listens to what celebrities say about anything other than their own job. If she talks about being overweight, obnoxious, or a lesbian, she probably has some insight. However, everything else is probably out of her realm of knowledge and understanding.

In all fairness, one does not have to be an academic expert on a topic to hold an opinion on a situation that falls within said topic. If that were the case, I would daresay that most people here are unqualified to comment on many of the topics here.
With that said, one’s celebrity status does not give a person’s opinion any more real, substantiated weight on most topics than it does anyone else’s.

Well, I am guessing she is thinking that the radical Christians are the ones not allowing her to marry. The problem with that line of thinking is that ballot measures are passing in Democratic territory. And not by little margins and certainly not just in the Bible belt.

Nice move Rosie; good job offending most of your audience from the start. There is no word on whether or not Bill Clinton and Madeleine Albright are protesting against ABC for this dramatized reenactment of idiot on parade.

Rosie showed me more proof that she is a liberal extremist. The View replaced Star Jones for this. I can’t believe it. At least Star didn’t shove her political views down the throats of the audience. Now, Rosie said that Radical Christianity is just as a threat to America as Radical Islam. She is right that radicals who claim to be Christians and commit evil acts aren’t Christians, but what type of Christianity does she mean by radical Christianity? I believe she is trying to equate Fundamental or Biblical Christianity with radicalism. That isn’t the case at all, because Biblical CHristianity forbids torturing innocent people, suicide, killing innocent people, bombing buildings, having forced slavery, using violence, etc. Even abortion bombers aren’t Fundamentalist Christianity, but extremists since Jesus in the NT said Do no violence unto no man and Exodus says Thou shalt not kill. So, Bibical Christians, social conservatives, and real fundamentalists have nothing to do with Islamic fascism or abortion bombers since both are violating the Word of God on so many levels. She’s also talking about seperation of church and state. There is no word in the Constitution mentioning a separation of church and state.
The Founders perfectly wrote that there must be a separation of the institutions of church and state, not that religious expression ought to be banned in the public square. Also, the Founders always used religious concepts in their legislative laws even today. So, Rosie needs to get her facts straight. Also, Rosie hates the Second Amendment, so she has little regardless for all of the words in the Bill of Rights, yet hypocritically invoke her interpretation of the First Amendment. These radicals want to demonize certain Christians and restrict free speech rights of certain Christians as well. Rosie is liar and a deciever. These extremists certainly can’t refute me in a debate. I’ll tear them apart in a debate. Rosie has a First Amendment right to say what she said (I don’t believe she should be fired or forced to apologize if she doesn’t want to), but I have a First Amendment to strongly refute her lies as well.

With her most recent rant, I think that the Christian churches and the NRA need to demonstrate to Rosie exactly how wrong she is. With the NRA having 3 MILLION paid members, and there are probably over 200 MILLION Christians in the US, How fast do you think the network would cave if just the NRA and the viewers of a few of the Sunday morning televangelists threatened to boycott the sponsors of “the View” as long as she’s on it? Threatening to boycott the show won’t do much, but threaten the sponsors and Rosie’s out on her fat backside within two weeks.
Yes isn’t Rosie’s hypocracy incredible. After blasting Tom Selleck over the topic of gun ownership, she hired an ARMED bodyguard for her kids. How much do you think that cost her considering she lives in Manhatten where concealed carry permits are virtually impossible to get without some serious political connections or at least greasing a few highly placed palms? Of course she is a liberal. The Bill of Rights only applies when its in her favor.
On the topic of Separation of Church and state. The phrase isn’t in the Constitution whatsoever. The intent isn’t even in the Constitution. The only restriction on religion in the Constitution is that “CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAWS RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION, OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF.” That is a direct quote of the first two phrases of the first sentence of the First amendment. Exactly where in there does it say that Church and State must be separate? It doesn’t. It simply says that CONGRESS may not establish a national religion or prohibit people from observing their faith. It also does not say that any other governmental agency can’t enact laws in respect to religion, only that CONGRESS can not. The Tenth amendment says ” The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.” Therefore, barring state constitutions prohibiting it, the states do have the power to establish a state religion under the tenth amendment.
Personally, I think that considering the requirement that Utah outlaw polygamy in order to enter the Union might have been a violation of this, but I wasn’t around in the 1890s to argue the case, nor do I believe that it would’ve gotten a favorable hearing at that time anyway. With that argument in mind, Utah could in fact amend its state constitution to declare itself a Mormon state and also reinstate polygamy. They would have a GREAT Constitutional argument for it. I do believe that Utah is in the jurisdiction of the 9th Circus so they could probably get at least one judgement in their favor. Of course with the 9th Circus’s record odds are 4-1 it’d be overturned on appeal but that hasn’t stopped Michael Newdow has it? LOL

Rosie is pissed because the Christians will not allow her to marry. Another thing- If you hate America that much then get the HELL OUT. I’m sure France would love to have you. People such as Rosie and the other left-wing extremists, are just as dangerous to our country as terrorists. We should boycott her. She does not deserve to be an American, and in the words of the great Bill O’Rielly- QUIT PROVIDING COMFORT TO TERRORISTS.
