THINK PROGRESS:Air America To Declare Bankruptcy

UPDATE: THINK PROGRESS MAY HAVE GOTTEN IT WRONG

Wow, who didn’t see that coming! But this is by far the funniest part of the story. According to Think Progress, “In fact, Air America succeeded at creating something that didn’t exist: the progressive talk radio format. That format is now established and strong and will continue with or without Air America.” Doesn’t it help to have an audience?

I wonder if Air America has any plans to pay back their loans.

“Doesn’t it help to have an audience?”

Like +49% of the country, you mean?

So 49% of the country tuned into Air America? Why did it fail then? Oh that’s right, a liberal was in charge!

The core audience for Air Jizzeera is seriously mentaly ill persons (stage 2 Liberalism +). And that is NOT 49% of Americans…

I would say that +49% of America would be receptive to the programing and discussions on AAR, yes. Not having an audience isn’t the problem, they’re not shutting down because of low ratings…

Why did it fail them? Bad management and bad business decision making would be my guess.

Sometimes persons who are not of a liberal bent ( what is the opposite of a liberal anyway) those who feel Air America should fail need a reality check..we are in grave danger from this president and Air America and Mother Jones are one of the few places where you can hear the truth. We need them, there has to be someone to correct the propaganda that we find most other places in the media

“…there has to be someone to correct the propaganda that we find most other places in the media”.

That’s what Conservative talk radio does.

As far as I can see most of the television news have no spine though I guess it is not the fault of all of them that the news we see is censored by the government..Ihave very little time to listen to the radio but I do hope you are not talking about Rush. That man has no morals

here’s the bottom line with the Limbaugh show: Yes, he does make interpretations that are not always on target. Yes, he comes across as arrogant and pompous, although I think a lot of that is his schtick, done deliberately for entertainment, and to annoy his opponents.

But the core difference is that he does his homework. He makes his case. He does the research. He uses facts and often people’s own words to build his case. One may not agree with his conclusion, but he has substance.

That’s the fundamental difference between him and the Air America fools. They spout 100% rhetoric, with no homework.

8- Not to mention that they have an audience, therefore ad revenue which keeps them on the air!

There is a place for the liberal talk show to thrive, but unfortunately AA catered to the radical wing of that sect (because we all know that Al Franken is a reasonable man  ) There are sensible liberals out there whose first thoughts are pro-American and not anti-Bush. To say that Air America was truthful may be specious with the facts, but this is no different than what some conservatives do also.

The difference here is there really isn’t a “conservative” talk radio network. Guys like Rush are and Hannity are features on a variety of networks and are supported by syndication.

I will say though that this is a basic example of how for some reason most liberals have the tendancy to not grasp economic very well.

I dont know which of the Air America fools you are referring too. I have found no discrepancys by Air America.. some of the things are jokes and am sure that everyone takes them that way. They have been right on as far as we have seen

EVERY one of them. I spent a few weeks in New York and listened to the show all day on WLIB. No facts, no research, no data. Just loads and loads of opinion. 100% rhetoric.

You say they are right on. So you agree with their opinions. You and their 10 other listeners.

Where’s the information beef? They are informational vegetarians.

I mean honestly, have any of you critics actually listened to AAR, for more than a minute at a time?

    I seriously doubt it…

I, and liberals like me that I know and am around, just don’t listen to the radio anymore. It’s kind of an outdated media.

I’d like to see the demograhpics on conservative talk shows…I’m willing to bet their audiences are older. The younger folks just aren’t into radio as much.

Yeah, i spent a few weeks in NY and listened to AAR the whole time I was there (working during the day). I laughed a lot, since it was so silly and the jokes and sketches were so sophomoric and really pathetic. At least Limabugh’s sketches are more professionally produced. AAR’s sounded like some high school kid produced them in the school AV lab. They really were that poorly done.

    15.

    Here is what I mean.

Air America uses facts, just like those I mentioned (Hannity, etc). The problem I have with all of these highly biased shows is that they often take those facts and bends them to the point of breaking in an effeort to support their “we’re more American than they are” daily regurgitation of the party line.

Look, I often see eye to eye with O’Reilly. My letters were often quoted by him (As an example, I was the first to call Micheal Moore a war profiteer). That said, I know he as an agenda, just like all of those guys I listed and all the folks on AA. In oder to meet that agenda, they don’t also present things impartially and are will to bend the facts to make their point.

I have never laughed at Rush, he has a cruel sense of humor and only finds laughter in others suffering.
The truth is Air America , Mother Jones.. there may be more that I have not found on the radio. As I said I have limited time for radio

Randi Rhodes has used this rhetoric before. From May 2004:
Comparing Bush and his family to the Corleones of “Godfather” fame, Air America host Randi Rhodes reportedly unleashed this zinger during her Monday night broadcast: “Like Fredo, somebody ought to take him out fishing and phuw. ”
Rhodes then imitated the sound of a gunshot.

In “Godfather II,” Fredo Corleone is executed by brother Michael at the end of the film.

#20. Ted, I listened to AAR for almost two weeks and didn’t hear much if any in the way of fact. I heard plenty of opinion, and a ton of rhetoric. But no homework, no case building, no compilations of actual statements, as Limbaugh does.

They are all lightweights. They can’t back it up.

I know what you already said, Robert. Look, from Rush to Al Franken, they are all spin doctors. You think Rush is factual because you happen to agree with many of his political insights. L, L & L thinks the same about AAR.

I know that Rush wasn’t always right on, an example being when he accused of Clinton pouring on the waterwork for the camera after a funeral. I know Al Franken isn’t ralways right on either., like in the Dem primary when he justified “protecting” his candidate’s freedom of speech by tackling a protestor.

    Both are spin doctors.

And this is by far the best example of what is wrong with the left:
Sad but this is why liberals have a disadvantage against conservatives.
Libs are a diverse, independent and free thinking assortment of individuals while conservatives are loyal group-thinkers who are quick to support the dividers and deciders.

Ted, fine, both are spin doctors. But Rush makes his case! AAR has nothing of the sort! There is a difference!

What if somebody came up to you and said someone was a jerk. That’s all. At that point, is is just opinion, just rhetoric. Then if someone else came up to you and listed ten things that occurred (including the subject’s own statements) that indicated they were a jerk, then said they are a jerk, who would have the more compelling argument? Some of the supporting items may be opinion ansd subject to interpretation, but when there is a lot of fact and solid evidence in there also, now that is making a case.

AAR hosts don’t do that. They build their conclusions on opinion and rhetoric only.

I loved the one from the poster who implied that the Gov’t should be funding AAR. ! It’s there on the first page, lower center! Now that’s the kind of thinking that defines the difference between Left and Right.

one of the most basic of republican hypocrisies:
their philosophy emphasizes the belief in personal responsibility and limited government interference in the lives of citizens.
That would sound right to me were it not for the fact that they appear to have taken up residence in the uterus of every American woman & apparently refuse to leave until they successfully legislate her body as if it were a small business.
Heck, I’m anti-abortion, hoping that every birth would be wanted & every baby cared for, but I’m certainly not going to tell a woman what to do with her own body.
To attempt to legislate what essentially comes down to an act of conscience is plain wrong. Some abortions are done for the wrong reasons, but everyone’s gonna have to stand before Someone sometime, even if it’s their own mirror, & examine their consciences.
Personally, I’m gonna have enough explaining to do for myself, not needing to be condemning anyone else.

    You see the light, Robert?

the Heritage Foundation’s stated mission is to “formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.”

these are your guys. hey, i think they’re mostly full of shit, too. i happen to agree with them on this issue though.
