His message was simple… DON’T COME TO MY COUNTRY AND ATTACK MY PRESIDENT

Rangels Statement

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez was applauded Thursday as he arrived at a Harlem Church to announce more sales of discounted home heating oil to qualified low-income American families.

The crowd chanted “Chavez, Chavez, the people are with you” in Spanish as he walked into the Mount Olivet Baptist Church on Lenox Ave. in Harlem.

Chavez, who was dressed in his signature red shirt, was introduced at the podium by the activist actor Danny Glover.

Pelosi:

“Hugo Chavez fancies himself a modern day Simon Bolivar but all he is an everyday thug,” House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said at a news conference, referring to Chavez’ comments in a U.N. General Assembly speech on Wednesday.

“Hugo Chavez abused the privilege that he had, speaking at the United Nations,” said Pelosi, a frequent Bush critic. “He demeaned himself and he demeaned Venezuela.”

Agreed! I am glad that the Dems came out against him today. Yes, I know they never spare the harsh words themselves, but in this case, I think they did the right thing!

Easy there now snowy egret, you aren’t helping anything with that anger. Focus it into critical thinking and well reasoned dialog and you’ll be able to take over the world!

I agree that Hugo Chavez is a pinhead, thug, and whatever else you want to say. While I make no secret of my disdain for president GWBush, I agree that he abused his opportunity to address the United Nations by being profoundly disrespectful. Not everyone in Venezuela agrees with him, and he won’t be president for ever. We’ll all get through this, I promise

Holy cow…are the Dems growing a pair?

“Not everyone in Venezuela agrees with him, and he won’t be president for ever.”

No, but his “Presidency” could last a very long time…like the rest of his life.

4- I was very pleased to be quite honest! They could have remained silent and they didn’t. I figured it was going to be nasty when Joe Kennedy claimed to have a previous engagement!

I heard on the radio that Venezuela’s national oil company owns Citgo. DO NOT ever shop at Citgo again.

They don’t have any of them on the West Coast that they know of. Next time I am back East, NO GO CITGO.

Actually considering the full content of Rangel’s remarks, his protestations were incredibly lacking in conviction. When he’s truly energized about a topic, his tone is substantially more animated than his weak response on this. Honestly, I wish they would have the cajones to stand up and defend Bush against these 3rd world thugs without doing it for political gain. Unfortunately, I honestly believe that these protestations were done solely for political gain and not out of any bent toward defending the honor of the office of President. Just look at who stepped forward to represent the Democratic party on this subject. Which two democratic congressman are less likely to face any opposition in their districts than Charlie Rangel from NYC and Nacy Pelosi from San Fran? Doesn’t it seem odd that the only Dems to make a loud public statement are those who have no fear of angering the wacko base in their districts? Chavez’s speech angered the average Americans and the Dems are doing their best to distance themselves from him despite saying far worse themselves both at home and abroad. Why isn’t it that John (I’m a war hero) Muertha wasn’t the one making a stink over it? He was a career Marine officer and should’ve been fuming mad over Chavez’s comments. Could it be that he’s in a tight race for his congressional seat and doesn’t want to affoend the Moveon.org crowd and potentially lose their support?

FAO- I think that the audience they were trying to reach didn’t consist of you or I. Cindy was not in any of the photos…Murtha is making back door deals to oust Pelosi….Rangel drew the ire of the local council people for his words…the arguement: Have Charlie give us heating fuel…

You are right about MoveOn though..this is their doing and when Ted says Soros is the biggest threat..he knows what he’s talking about!
