Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., submitted a letter of resignation from Congress on Friday in the wake of questions about e-mails he wrote a former male page, according to a congressional official.
Foley, 52, had been considered a shoo-in for re-election until the e- mails surfaced in recent days.Campaign aides had previously acknowledged that the Republican congressman e-mailed the former Capitol page five times, but had said there was nothing inappropriate about the exchange. The page was 16 at the time of the e-mail correspondence.
Foley’s election opponent, Democrat Tim Mahoney, has called for an investigation.
The original report quoted a 16-year-old Congressional page as being “freaked out” when Foley chatted him up over e-mail and requested a photo. Sounded reasonably innocuous to me.
It’s sounding a little less innocuous now:
Hours earlier, ABC News had read excerpts of instant messages provided by former pages who said the congressman, under the AOL Instant Messenger screen name Maf54, made repeated references to sexual organs and acts.
That’s another pickup for the Dems in the House. Can’t say I’m sorry about this one.

Why is it that Republicans resign when the finger gets pointed at them? Even the suggestion of impropriety is enough to cause them to throw in the towel.
Yet Democrites hang in there. They act as though nothing happened (freezer Jefferson in N.O.) and go on about business as usual, sit on the Senate “ethics” committee (ChapaTed Kennedy), or even close ranks around the perp to protect him (’ol “lie and deny” Klinton).
But let someone yell “Boo!” at a Republican and they fold like a house of cards.
Why is this phenomenum occurring?

Robert, I think you’re barking up the wrong tree here. Suggesting or even hinting that this guy shouldn’t immediately step down is unacceptable. Just because the Dems haven’t done the right thing doesn’t mean the GOP shouldn’t hold itself to a higher standard. Especially in this very cut-and-dry case.
September 30, 2006 - 04:40 PM on September 30th, 2006
I honestly don’t know the details of this case. My point is what I wrote. Look at DeLay, Gingrich, others. A finger gets pointed at a Republican, they fold.
Democrites? You can be ex-KKK and it’s kkkewl!

KKK - i assume you’re still talking about Byrd, which is so cute. what the heck would you do if not for a blue dress deposition, Ted Kennedy’s accident (Murder to some here - screw the legal system! - we’ll use the legal system in a way that suits us!!) —-let’s see, who else…ah yes - the biggest demon in hell - Bill CLinton - followed of course closely by his wife…
the pedophilia of one of your guys is spun to criticize democrats.
how suprising.
October 1, 2006 - 03:53 AM on October 1st, 2006
by the way - Byrd admitted his mistakes & i don’t believe he is currently the Grand Kliegel.
but don’t let that stop you.
i think i’ll do a long post about how many top administrative people in the Nixon & Reagan White House went to jail. apparently partisanship makes all things highly relevant.

comments on Foley. at least you had the guts to post the forum.
Top House Republicans knew for months about e-mail between Representative Mark Foley and a former teenage page, but kept the matter secret.
Why do you want these guys running things?
Why?
also, no one commented on the fact that one of his committees was responisble for weriting the latest legislation on internet predators.
nothing says hypocrisy like silence when good people keep their mouths shut.

6-nothing say stupidity like the guy that doesn’t take the time to read what is in front of him! From my original post: A spokesman for Foley, the chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children
4-Kennedy is innocent? Funny, when the law is on Nixon’s side, you certainly didn’t take that position..hypocrite.

Nixon resigned to keep from being impeached. there are tapes of him committing felonies that you seem to think are just a fantasy. everyone around him went to prison.
until you start correcting your peers that call Kennedy a ‘murderer’ & tell them to have respect for the law don’t prech to me me.
you may revise history only so far to keep everyone who doesn’t blind themselves from the truth from laughing at your position.
the pitiful repsonse to this pedophile is dependent on his party. i know it, you deny it & you’re in denial.
i am amazed that Garry Studds survided his scandal. i wouldn’t have voted for him.
Boy Ney is going to prison.
your goin’ to lose the house & the party will be over. then your hysteria will bloom with bile & hatred not seen since your past (¤t) purge of Clinton.
peejz -
i imagine you siging:
i am a Christian tried & true

8- Nixon is innocent in the eyes of the law, until you have respect for the law, I will not correct my peers.
Blind- you are the idiot that can’t read.

this reflects the true heart of conservatism because it is based upon a heirarchical idea of society where superiors can abuse and degrade inferiors if they want to, and inferiors must remain humble and obedient. abuse is no problem; equality is.
morals are for the ruled, not the rulers.
I’m surprised the right wing nuts haven’t gleefully blamed the 16 year old boy and claim the young man was trying to seduce Foley.
It wouldn’t shock me if such a strategy is being deliberated by these people.
Human rights/torture
Predator legislation. Mark foley
“I’m innocent - a victim of democratic attacks” – Bob Ney
“I’m innocent - a victim of democratic attacks” – Duke Cuningham
Richard Nixon was guilty of a runaway, corrupt administration, if not ever technically convicted due to his pardon.
Clinton adopted a similar simple and effective anti-scandal strategy: ” — delay, deny, distort, demean”
Sound familiar?

#5: I am NOT talking about the Foley case. I am talking about how overall, in general, even when it is a manufactured “scandal” Repubs resign. Democrites can get caught with their hand in the cookie jar (”freezer” Jefferson”) and they keep on keepin’ on. Big, fundamental difference.
Okay? Comprende? Are you able to read and understand?
Also you were called out on another thread, by Tedintheshed, as I recall, asked about who was lying, Klinton or Clarke? You NEVER answered that question and instead did a disappearing act for a few days.
Now you’re back, but until you answer that question, you have ZERO credibility. All of your rambling, incoherent posting is in the noise level.

i don’t care who was lying. at different times they were probably both lying.
Clinton is through ruining this country except on right wing web sites.
the thing you won’t fine on these same sites is how George Bush is ruining the country…ya know….now.
i know talking about Clinton is more important & surely safer than dealing with the reality of this failed man currently in office.
screw it - let’s talk about Ted Kennedy & Robert Byrd some more.

“this reflects the true heart of conservatism because it is based upon a heirarchical idea of society where superiors can abuse and degrade inferiors if they want to, and inferiors must remain humble and obedient. abuse is no problem; equality is.”
That is flatly false. The assertion that conservatism believes in a heirarchial idea of society has no basis in fact. One could just as easily assert the same about liberalism using the imprisonment of poor people in a loop of entitlements that they can not escape, and thus these folks continue to vote for the liberal system not out of choice but out of dependence.
Conservatism believes that hand outs are not the way to empower people, but creating self reliant self sufficient individuals only goes to create a stronger society as a whole. Liberalism’s fault is the belif that everyone is entitled and this belief has led to the downfall of many civilizations through out history, Rome being the most prominent of those examples.
As far as your “I’m a victim of Democratic attacks”, wasn’t it just a few days ago your hero claiming HE was the vitim of “The vast right wing conspiracy” or to be a bit mnore precise, “a nice little conservatibe hit job”?
You are the pot calling the kettle black here. It is ashame that you are such a partisan hack.

I was just raeding about Foley. He’s apparently a homosexual. Now, I though the Democrites, the Left, are quite alright with that. In fact, shouldn’t Foley then be protected? By their own arguments, their own precedent, Foley should be championed, should be promoted, should be be celebrated!
I*n kalifornia we have a bill on the Governator’s desk that would rewrite school history books to feature the great contributions made by homosexuals and transgendered people!
STOP the presses! Foley’s name can go in there! Right alongside Barney Frank’s! Heck, I recall when Barney’s boifriend ran his own little male prostitution gig right out of Barney’s pad. Now that was okay, that was quite alright, even protected by the Democrite leadership! Frank was never asked to resign, and nobody ever threw rocks at the Democrite leadership. To do so would have been politically incorrect (homophobic. So Foley should be protected too!
WHAT’s all the fuss from them? They should be celebrating Foley!
