Describing who "you" (I assume you mean Republicans) look dumb to would be akin to trying to explain to someone that their breath smells bad. You can't smell your own breath and if you don't trust the person telling you, you're not going to believe that you have bad breath. In other words, I'm probably wasting my time...

And yet I can't resist tilting at this windmill...

A simple thought experiment. No wall in the history of the world has ever fulfilled its desired intention without a fighting force backing it up, and even then they didn't last forever. Walls like the Berlin wall, the Great Wall of China and the Roman wall across England held up for as long as they did because they were militarized. Unless we're going to militarize the entire 2000 miles of US/Mexican border (which actually isn't that hard in the big scheme of things) this whole fence venture is a waste of time and makes its backers look profoundly ignorant.

I agree with FAO, Vicente Fox isn't seeing the big picture. If you're people are fleeing the country *SOMETHING IS WRONG*. A strongly held border would be painful to Mexico at first, but in about 50 years may be just the catalyst it needs to turn it into another neighbor like Canada.

2- It is my understanding that this will not be a chain-link fence as we have come to know as security! You are correct..start penalizing the employers that hire them.

Who do we look dumb to Chuck?

Either we take away the incentive to work illegally in the US, or we find a way to militarize the border. Throwing money at a fence that's going to be full of holes in a year is a waste of money and only makes us look dumber than we already look (if that were possible).

Once again, Democrats are spineless, Republicans are clueless and both of them have that stupid "smile for the camera" grin.

I've heard about Mexico whining about a fence being bad for US Mexican relations. I've got one thing to say to that. If you'd keep your citizens in MEXICO, get rid of the corruption that allows large portions of the country to be totally lawless, and stop assisting your citizens in breaking US law, we'd might consider you a good neighbor. Until then I'm going to have to agree with the phrase of "Good Fences make good neighbors" As for a border fence being like the Berlin Wall, it would only be so if MEXICO built it. The Berlin wall was built to keep people IN not keep them OUT. Mexico hasn't been a good neighbor to the US in decades. Vicente what does it tell you about your crappy corrupt country that so many of your citizens are willing to break the laws to escape it?
