"Just about no one believes #3 is possible. So, take your pick from #1 or #2"

Pretty shitty choices. Who pushed this fiasco on the world in the first place? Oh, wait...that's right...Republicans.

History will not be kind.

Transfer of a base to - at best - an inept or - at best a corrupt - Iraqi government doesn't mean much. It's window dressing. I believe the American Forces will leave -- and sooner than later. It comes down to politics not to mention the budget.

When they do leave they leave a country torn & in chaos. 3 ways Iraq could resolve itself afterwards: 1.) splits into 3 separate & warring factions each with its own international sponsers, 2.) strongman arises and brutally suppresses the violence and forge a nation through tyranny (Saddam II anyone?), 3.)Iraq comes together as a peaceloving, democratic nation - an example to all the Mideast.

Just about no one believes #3 is possible. So, take your pick from #1 or #2. When we went into Iraq we didn't understand the mindset. An Muslum would much rather consult a mullah rather than any kind of governmental representative.

I was referring to the fact that the BDS crowd has been saying that we are never leaving Iraq, we are going to set up bases and occupy their land forever blah blah blah! Well, this is the start, a small start, but a good one that we are going to be pulling out...

Both you miss the BDS crowd's point. This base isn't being surrendered to the Islamofascists. We aren't surrendering in the War on Terror, converting to Islam, and taking our various punishments and beheadings.
