Chris Cillizza ,of the WaPo, is saying that Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele (R) is contemplating a bid for chairmanship of the Republican National Committee. I like Michael Steele and want him to fulfill his political dreams. Given the fact that many that head a party chair don’t go on to hold office afterward, I don’t want him to be held back, but at the same time I support this. Steele is a well spoken individual that doesn’t mince his words..could be the communicator that we need.
Ian backs him for his many accomplishments but seems to want it for a bit of revenge as well: “Wouldn’t you loooove to see Steele go up against Howard “You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people of color in a single room? Only if they had the hotel staff in here” Dean on the talk shows every week?”
Well it would absolutely be no match if Steele went up against Dean. Steele would shell him over and over again. I believe Michael Steele would make a great RNC chair but truthfully he would make a much better Senator or given more experience a President. I do not say that lightly. His politcal credits are not as extensive as some but he has worked hard for Maryland, accomplished alot that was obviously not valued by most, is smart, articulate, intelligent and most of all wants to work WITH and not against others.
Steele’s defeat was truly Marylands and the U.S. loss.
There is a lot of discussion and debate in African American communities across the U.S. regarding the Republican party, its national committees, and the Michael Steele, and the Harold Ford loss.
Although Ford Says race is not a factor in the senate loss, there is no question the Ad depicting him (ford) as a “black pimp” politican, impacted the race.
Race did play a major factor in both senate races. Now Michael steele wants to run the Republican strategy for 2008. I can’t wait to see what type of ads they come up with under a Steele RNC chair.
2-There was blatant racism in the Steele race..from the oreos to the minstral photo (blackface for those of you that don’t know). As for Ford, I’m sorry but that ad did not portray him as a pimp, but a player which he says he is..And what if it was meant to depict him as a black pimp..the music industry thrives on the image of the gangster being the hero and women are bitches and ho’s…Mr. Ford has been elected in his state before, there was nothing racist about the ad..Chris Matthews trying to make it appear to be racist was hilarious…
Harold Ford Jr. lost fair and square but he is young and will be back with a vengence..he has yet to prime politically!
