McGovern, Murtha, Chafee, and Our Future
Two days ago, America woke up to the news that the Democrats had won control of the Congress and we were hours away from learning that they had also won the Senate. What a difference 2 days makes in politics. George McGovern is being reintroduced to the Democratic party. Next week, he is planning to meet with 60 members of Congress to discuss strategy to remove U.S. troops from Iraq by June. Murtha has plans of becoming the next Majority Leader. I suppose he feels that it is payment for all those deals he brokers at his desk: “Listen, this is not a dictatorship. The President can say all he wants to. The President has, has no power. The President is a, a perception of power. And he’s lost that power in this election.” And then we have Lincoln Chafee who is a disgruntled loser.
Two days after losing a bid for a second term, Sen. Lincoln Chafee said he was unsure whether he would remain a Republican.
Chafee lost to Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse in a race seen as a referendum on
President Bush and the GOP. On Thursday, he was asked whether he would stick with the Republican Party or become an independent or Democrat.“I haven’t made any decisions. I just haven’t even thought about where my place is,” Chafee said at a news conference. When pressed on whether his comments indicated he might leave the GOP, he replied: “That’s fair.”
Our future as a party depends on getting back and sticking to our core beliefs. We can not be seen like Pelosi, who promised the moon in the first 100 hours but now looks like that won’t be happening:
Despite House Minority Leader Pelosi’s pledge this week that Democrats will implement the 9/11 Commission’s recommendations within the first 100 hours of taking control of the House in January, Democratic lawmakers and aides say they are not sure how they will do it. How they plan to overcome anticipated committee turf battles that have bedeviled some Republican efforts to streamline oversight of homeland security programs also remains unclear. “We didn’t have all this up on the screen ready to hit to send,” an aide to Pelosi acknowledged after Tuesday’s elections. Another aide added, “We don’t know what exactly will be brought to the floor.” Privately, aides acknowledged that most of the recommendations by the commission that investigated the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, have been addressed in some way by the Bush administration or Republican-controlled Congress. But they said those recommendations have not been fully implemented, or have been done in name only, creating a need for new legislation to fix the shortfalls.
Any positives from the election? Joe is being promised the moon!
Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, set to become majority leader of the new Democratic-led Senate, “talked to Lieberman on Wednesday and told the senator he expects him to be the next chairman of the committee” on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, said Reid spokesman Jim Manley.

Our future?
We have none- the America of our forefathers is dead.
Get used to it.
November 10, 2006 - 09:34 AM on November 10th, 2006
Of course we do..why would you say we have no future? What is dead about the America of our forefathers? Obviously, our forefathers dealt with much of the same bs that we see today, hence the wording of the COTUS…we all have a future, it is up to us to determine what it is…
November 10, 2006 - 10:23 AM on November 10th, 2006
Murtha for Majority leader! Seriously, if he wins I am never going to shut up about ABSCAM and Earmark Jack. The Democrat party hues and cries over “corruption” and then turn around and install an unethical failurecrat? We might just get the House back before we know it!

2.
Peejz,
I am writing a detailed response for you and will post it here later today hopefully.
November 10, 2006 - 10:34 AM on November 10th, 2006
Ted, I will look forward to it..if it doesn’t show up..just email me at rightvoices at yahoo dot com….use all the links you want..but it may get caught up in moderation.. If that happens, I want to make sure I get it out of moderation and posted… can’t wait to see what you say!
November 10, 2006 - 10:35 AM on November 10th, 2006
3- We will get the house back, but we should do it with good clean house…politicians that can’t hide behind their corruption…a good house cleaning always does well for the people…
November 10, 2006 - 10:46 AM on November 10th, 2006
Here is my initial response Peejz:
Of course we do..why would you say we have no future? What is dead about the America of our forefathers? Obviously, our forefathers dealt with much of the same bs that we see today, hence the wording of the COTUS:we all have a future, it is up to us to determine what it is:
Peejz, before I respond I want to make clear that this isn’t meant as a personal insult to you. I admire you in many ways here, and I think you are a good person.
But what you said is naive.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while. It has been a “progression”of thought, or perhaps “regression”is a better word. My conservative leaning moderatism has taken an ugly turn. I think I need to change the way I look at thinks from a life perspective. In illustration, I will answer your questions that you asked, one at a time:
Of course we do..why would you say we have no future?
Once a comment was made about America that no army could defeat us, and whoever said that was correct. We have been beaten internally. Our government starts with the people, and ends with them too and we no longer have the will power to maintain our freedoms; we’ve been quashed by our politicians. No, I am not referring to one party. This has nothing to do with the election results either, as I predicted the House would fall two years ago. The election is of no surprise to me.
Those of us that care have no real options left. Many everyday people, such as you, just don’t see it yet. We have two parties, and everyone in those two parties with any real power (The President, Congress, Governors, etc) is corrupt. They care only about 1) their gain of status, wealth and power 2) maintaining their parties. Do you really think that “we the people”are represented anymore? If they didn’t, they wouldn’t be presented to us, “we the people”to vote upon. When given the so called “choiceâ€, we must choose between two folks that NEVER EVER have our interests in mind.
What is dead about the America of our forefathers?
That’s easy- we no longer have the rights we used to.
Here is one example: A basic tenant of our country was once the right to own land, and thus the forth amendment. We no longer really own land: it is subjugated to excessive taxes, eminent domain, excessive permits, and the list goes on. I can no longer do what I want on my land- we do not have that freedom.
Here is another example: Do remember in grade school the phrase used by our founding fathers “No taxation without representation!â€? We are no longer represented, but we sure as heck are taxed! Would you agree?
I can go on, but I think you get my point.
Obviously, our forefathers dealt with much of the same bs that we see today, hence the wording of the COTUS:we all have a future, it is up to us to determine what it is:
The COTUS is no loner valid- one may as well wipe their ass with it. The rights afforded by it have been taken away by the only people who can:â€we the peopleâ€. That complacency has allowed the attack on our rights by Presidents, Congressmen and groups such as the ACLU.
I told my wife last night, that I pity my kids. We are witnessing the beginning of the end of a once great nation and that is who will suffer. We have no future, but by “we”I mean “theyâ€.
And this is why my thinking is radically changing, and what I am thinking is scaring the hell out of me. If you wish me to expand upon that, I will and if not, then I won’t.
I will respect that, just like I respect you.

Thank you Peezj- I look forward to it.
I also want to say that anyone is invited to respond, but please make the reponse thoughtful.

I agree that the Republican party needs to clean house (it’s own). The Democrites will be expecting two years of what they have been doing to Bush and the repubs; obstruction, smear, dirt, etc.
While dirt and smear works, if the Republicans do that, it will render the two party system useless and our system permanentloy partisan gridlocked. The Democrites have never cared about invoking that (selling their souls to the devil) because they think they’ll win and don’t care about the cost.
So what do the republicans do now? Take the high road and let the Democrites have sole posession of the bottom of the barrel?
November 10, 2006 - 12:41 PM on November 10th, 2006
10.
They already share the bottom of the barrel with the Dems- why do you think the Dems gained control of Congress?
The scandel ridden Republicans.
Besides, the two party system is already useless as I said above.

In response to Ted’s post #7:
I am probably a bit naive and a bit idealistic:wink:, but I disagree that the COTUS is worthless….”My Constitution is a very flexible Constitution.” — Justice Scalia
Taxation: Agree 100%
eminent domain: that Kelo case scared the hell out of me…I see exactly what you are talking about, but I had the good fortune of being able to vote on a ballot initiaive that passed in Michigan that prohibits e.d. Okay, it took a lot of work to assure myself and fellow citizens that a b.s. ruling by the SCOTUS can’t affect us, but it was well worth my vote…but it will take 49 other states to do the exact same thing….We the people need to start doing our jobs….our job is to hold the elected officials and life long appointments accountable..that is not limited to the federal level..it amazes me how much people don’t know about their state constitutions.
I think I understand where your fear is coming from, as I think we are fearing the exact same things…I will chose to fight those that wish to harm this nation..I hope you will join me… I do want you to expand on you thoughts..
Now I want to share something with you…my bil and I are total opposites..he is strong union democrat and then theres me…I expected a snotty e-mail on Wednesday teasing me..instead i got a really nice phone call…guess who switched parties? We got into the reasons he decided to vote Republican…our State is in the toilet and Granholm is so far in the unions pockets it isn’t going to get better any time soon…He hates the war, but he took a comment i made to heart..I asked him how his Dad would feel, as a Vet of WWII, if we just retreated. Of course at the time of the original talk, we retreated to lines from Animal House..Over? Nothings over…but he also saw the benefits of the economic policies that Bush & Co put forth, he is starting to get freaked out by the ACLU and the public school systems etc…I guess turning 50 has that affect on people…
Anyway..I would love to hear the rest of what you have to say..

“Anyway..I would love to hear the rest of what you have to say…”
Here is the next inxstallment Peejz. Short but sweet.
Earlier I said I believe America’s citizens has lost their will (post #7). To that end, I say we stood at a crossroads and took the wrong fork.
We will never win a military conflict again…ever. When the aspirations of politician undermine our national willpower, this becomes impossible.
So, we no longer need an army.
Disband our military for we will never have a use for it. No one will attack us anyway- we are already conquered.
November 13, 2006 - 06:01 PM on November 13th, 2006
13- There is nothing I can say to try and convince you differently, as my Father and ijust had that very conversation this afternoon…We both agree with you:sad:
November 13, 2006 - 07:34 PM on November 13th, 2006
I heard today that the Democrites are pushing for an announced timetable for withdrawal of US troops from Iraq…They are going to give our enemy exactly what they have wanted. They are going to try to prove Bin Laden right; that Americans don’t have the stomach for a protracted fight.
Mark these words: If that happens, we’ll be back in the Middle East very soon. And this time it won’t be in one nation (Iraq) it’ll be on several fronts. And it won’t be 150,000 troops, it will be 500,000+ and the draft will be reinstated. And our casualties, and the cost, will be 10x.
It was stupid management of the aftermath of WWI that set the stage for WWII. This mismanagement will set the stage for WWIII.
The dark cloud of Democrite policy is already starting to cover the USA.

You heard correctly: 4-6 months.
Remeber what happened when you cut and run from Viet Nam? Pol Pot killed 2,000,000 people.

I get sick thinking of this:sad:
November 13, 2006 - 09:06 PM on November 13th, 2006
Wow, this is actually some of the best postings I’ve seen here in a long time.
“the America of our forefathers is dead.â€
Absolutely not. It has only changed. The America of our forefathers had slaves and no internet. It is better now.
“The Democrites will be expecting two years of what they have been doing to Bush and the repubs; obstruction, smear, dirt, etc.â€
That’s the funniest part to me. The idiot Democrats are going to play the next 2 years smart. I really think 2008 is going to be a good year for Democrats. (I so wish I had time to dig up all the people who called me an idiot for suggesting that power between the Democrats and Republicans was like pendulum) But it’s like a 12 year swing. It’s already swinging to the left. It’s only going to get worse for Republicans.
“the two party system is already useless as I said above.â€
It’s not so bad.
“Remeber what happened when you cut and run from Viet Nam? Pol Pot killed 2,000,000 people.â€
Wow; I don’t even know where to start with that comment for so many reasons. But yes, the deaths of 2 Millions Iraqis is a real possibility.
(Please tell me that you know that Pol Pot was in Cambodia and not Viet Nam)
(and that it was the Vietnamese military that stopped the deaths in Cambodia)
November 14, 2006 - 10:14 PM on November 14th, 2006
“Absolutely not. It has only changed. The America of our forefathers had slaves and no internet. It is better now.”
It has changed for the worst. Instead of deflectionist tactics, care toi address the points I actually made. Of course, I will address yours:
1) Slavery: at the time of our forefaters, slavery was not the moral dilemma of today’s world. Although there were some revolutionaries that saw slavery as morally maligned, you are applying a present perspective to a past situation. That doesn’t work.
2) The internet. Yes, it is “better”. I have learned that the vast mmajority of people are idiots. oh, I guess it’s not. No really, all the joking aside the fact tyhe internet exists makes the world no less better or worse.
“It’s not so bad.”
Care to expand upon that? I certainly did.
“Wow; I don’t even know where to start with that comment for so many reasons. But yes, the deaths of 2 Millions Iraqis is a real possibility.
(Please tell me that you know that Pol Pot was in Cambodia and not Viet Nam)
(and that it was the Vietnamese military that stopped the deaths in Cambodia”
Please start.
But for your clarification: Yes, I know Pol Pot was in Cambodia. (Please tell me you understood the implications of our withdrawal from the area)
