Woman who drowned children ordered freed 3 years after the murders!

A woman who drowned her two children in 2003 is now mentally stable and should be released from a state hospital, a judge ruled.

Lisa Ann Diaz drowned her 3- and 5-year-old daughters by holding their heads under water in the bathtub of their Plano home. Diaz, tried only in the older child’s death, was found not guilty by reason of insanity.

State District Judge Mark Rusch on Thursday ordered Diaz’s release from the Big Spring State Hospital, where she has been for more than two years. Her attorney said the 36-year-old could be released as early as Friday.

Rusch said Diaz must remain on medication and continue treatment on an outpatient basis.

Doctors at the hospital recommended her release, but the district attorney’s office opposed it.

“Given Ms. Diaz’s apparent swift recovery, Judge Rusch had no choice but to release her from the state hospital,” Collin County First Assistant District Attorney Greg Davis said in a statement. “Today’s decision underscores the need to reform the insanity defense so that intentional killers are held accountable for their actions and don’t return to our communities.”

She’s 36 and can go about making a new family….Justice …….
