Democrat Bill Nelson Meets with Syrian Dictator
Looks like Hammas may have been telling the truth when they said that they have met with top Democratic officials. The latest outrage:

Charles offers:
At roughly the same time Bill Nelson was having his chat with the chinless ophthalmologist in Damascus, Syrian ambassador Imad Moustapha was bashing America at a CAIR-sponsored event at the National Press Club: Syrian Ambassador Slams US at CAIR-Hosted Conference.
ALLAHPUNDIT reminds us:

At first glance this appears to be an outrage but I offer one other explanation. Could, and I emphasize the word could, it be possible that the Bush administration sent someone over there to talk with them and feel them out? Democrats in general have been very vocal with their distaste of this war and mayhaps they pushed the administration into letting them give a try at the negotiating table.

2-emphasize the word could, it be possible that the Bush administration sent someone over there to talk with them and feel them out? According to this report: In a direct affront to the Bush administration, a Democratic senator spent an hour Wednesday with Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus, asking him to do more to stabilize Iraq.
Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida, a member of the Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees, met with Assad after the State Department said that it disapproved of his trip. The United States has limited diplomatic ties with Syria because of its support of Hezbollah and Hamas, which the U.S. deems terrorist organizations, and President Bush has expressed reluctance to seek help from Damascus on Iraq until the Syrians curb that support and reduce their influence in Lebanon.

The Traitors Amongst Us
This is simply amazing: WASHINGTON - In a direct affront to the Bush administration, a Democratic senator spent an hour Wednesday with Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus, emerging from the meeting to say Assad was willing to help control…

Don’t let him back in the country. Revoke his citizenship for a year and make him live in Damascus.

What did Bill Nelson really say to Bashar Assad?
Fortunately, our patented Blogotronic? recorder was able to capture the visit and it delivered this high-quality, exclusive transcript of the proceedings…

This crap by the Democrats will continue as long as their elected officials can make these trips with impunity. Rep. George Miller, D-CA, used to do this with the Sandinistas during Reagan’s term.
If Nelson were arrested upon return to the country, found guilty of Treason, and executed, this crap would end, PRONTO!

Oh, remember Sen. Jay Rockefeller running to Assad before the Iraq war? Same difference.

Good job, Senator!
Bush and his team are incompetent. We need fresh ideas.

I just have to ask these Senators where in the Constitution does it allow them to make treaties with other countries? Last I checked that’s entirely the purview of the Executive branch. While the Senate has to approve treaties, the Executive branch is the sole branch that is supposed to be negotiating with foreign leaders. It’s time to take these LEGISLATORS to task for violating the Constitution by trying to negotiate deal with foreign countries. Of course the other option would be for them to claim that they aren’t negotiating treaties, under which case the other option would be that they are negotiating private deals and therefore would have to be considered foreign agents. That would not be a good thing as foreign agents can NOT be members of Congress or the Senate. As an unregistered foreign agent, they would be subject to all kinds of legal problems other than just losing their seats. That’s what the gist of Abscam was.

It’s not just Democrats flouting the Republican White House, which has official control of American foreign policy. The eight-member delegation to Cuba is made up of four Republicans and four Democrats. That group may meet with acting President Raul Castro before returning Sunday.
Here’s a link to the story.
It looks like neither dems nor reps have much faith in our fearless leader’s ability to divert geopolitical catastrophe.

8- It doesn’t say it FAO and they are breaking the law in doing this. As I pointed out in another thread, Nelson says Syria is willing to work with us on the Iraq border situation, but publically, the spokespeople for Syria say there is no problem..so who is blowing smoke up our ass?

9-Specter’s interest in Syria is nothing new. He has visited Syria 15 times since 1984 and even attended the funeral of Assad’s father. The senator visited with then-Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in 1990 and has tried repeatedly to engage officials in Iran, although to no avail.
December 16, 2006 - 11:12 AM on December 16th, 2006
11.
Well, everybody visited with Saddam.
Specter’s not the only one, though.
I was just calling attention to the fact that congressmen from both sides of the aisle don’t seem to have much faith in the president’s ability to deal with geopolitical matters (hence 4 and 4 in Cuba).
If you weren’t suggesting that it’s only dems visiting dictators, I apologize.

Cuba and the ME are 2 very different topics. I would expect our govt to be getting a feel for the direction of Cuba upon Castros death…Raul does not look to be the next leader as he hasn’t even fulfilled his puppet role. I anticipate a revolution upon Fidel’s death.
December 16, 2006 - 12:36 PM on December 16th, 2006
Cuba and the ME are indeed different, but in both cases we have visits that were not supported by the white house

Did you read your link?
The Bush administration has been less openly critical of a congressional trip to Cuba.
“The situation is a little bit different going down to Havana than going down to Syria,” State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said today. “Especially where you have the issue of Syria really on the front pages, and we’ve made quite clear our position that now is not the moment to engage Syria.”

#8 it is okay for Democrites to do it, okay with the MSM and others. Now of course if it were Republicans doing it, they would be violating anything and everything, it would be outrageous, it would be more evidence of Republicans subverting the Constitution, etc.
But it’s the Democrites, undermining Bush. So it’s okay!

Robert, Bush needs to be hurt this way.
Maybe only then can his stubborn ass make an actual change that would be possibly productive in the region.
These guys going there and talking should be a bucket of cold water on Bushs face. Wake the Fuck Up, Dubya!

17- Wake up to what? The reality that the Democrats are appeasing the enemy? The Democrats will sell out Israel in a heartbeat?
December 18, 2006 - 09:43 AM on December 18th, 2006
I have an idea, put up each and every a****** who believes in cut and run, and selling out this country, before a firing squad.
