#8 it is okay for Democrites to do it, okay with the MSM and others. Now of course if it were Republicans doing it, they would be violating anything and everything, it would be outrageous, it would be more evidence of Republicans subverting the Constitution, etc.

The Bush administration has been less openly critical of a congressional trip to Cuba.
“The situation is a little bit different going down to Havana than going down to Syria,” State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said today. “Especially where you have the issue of Syria really on the front pages, and we’ve made quite clear our position that now is not the moment to engage Syria.”

Cuba and the ME are 2 very different topics. I would expect our govt to be getting a feel for the direction of Cuba upon Castros death…Raul does not look to be the next leader as he hasn’t even fulfilled his puppet role. I anticipate a revolution upon Fidel’s death.

Specter’s not the only one, though.

I was just calling attention to the fact that congressmen from both sides of the aisle don’t seem to have much faith in the president’s ability to deal with geopolitical matters (hence 4 and 4 in Cuba).

9-Specter’s interest in Syria is nothing new. He has visited Syria 15 times since 1984 and even attended the funeral of Assad’s father. The senator visited with then-Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in 1990 and has tried repeatedly to engage officials in Iran, although to no avail.

8- It doesn’t say it FAO and they are breaking the law in doing this. As I pointed out in another thread, Nelson says Syria is willing to work with us on the Iraq border situation, but publically, the spokespeople for Syria say there is no problem..so who is blowing smoke up our ass?
