DURHAM, N.C. — A defense attorney says prosecutors have dropped rape charges against three Duke University lacrosse players.Charges of kidnapping and sexual offense still stand against the three players.

Allahpundit says:
All I know is that apparently DNA from a number of men was found inside the accuser after the attack; that none of it matches the defendants’; and that D.A. Nifong allegedly conspired to cover up that fact. Susan Estrich calls it an “extreme case of lawlessness by the prosecutors” that warrants Nifong being replaced by the court.
In other words, they’re being railroaded. Anything else I need to know?

Not at all San Fran. The truth of the matter is that there is far too much solid evidence to prove that at least one of the defendents wasn’t even in the house when the attack was alleged to have occurred. None of the 5 different DNA samples retrieved from the accuser’s panties matched any of the 43 Duke Lacrosse players. Nyfong knew this months ago and withheld the information from the defense as a means of trying to coerce a plea deal out of the defendants in lieu of having to take the case to trial and having his ass handed to him. He filed charges that he had to know were, at best, unsubstantiated or , at worst, FALSE as a means to garner support for his reelection from the black community. He does not have a winnable case, he’s just hoping that he can cause the defendant’s to accept a plea due to the huge legal bills his malingering is causing. His actions are reprehensible.
I’m not saying that this woman wasn’t attacked. I’m not even saying that she wasn’t raped. There is simply far too much forensic evidence to indicate that if she were, these three guys didn’t do it. While Nyfong is so adamantly insistent that these are the guys, if she were attacked, the real culprits are getting away. My thoughts on it are simple. She went to a party to be paid to perform a strip tease. She got drunk at the party and was possibly slipped a mickey. If she was drugged and then attacked, I feel sorry for her. But these guys DIDN’T do it. Her allegations (baseless or otherwise), and the DA’s political aspirations have ruined at least a year if not the entire lives of three young men. Why is it that the liberals scream about (supposedly) innocent men going to jail when they’re black and convicted yet are eager to jump on the crucify the white guys campaign wagon even when all the evidence CLEARLY indicates that they are innocent?
Personally, I think that if she were attacked, it was probably by someone other than the Lacrosse team members. I know that at most college campus parties I went to, there were dozens of people there who noone knew. It is completely possible that someone wandered into the party and attacked her. Unlikely that is occurred the way that she recounted, but still remotely possible.

Well…I told you so…way, way back I said this whole case was a stinking pile of crap. Nifong simply wanted to pander and play up to the black voters and he victimized these three college students in the process. He didn’t give a damn about the effect his scheme would have on anyone else.
It won’t be long and the rest of this case will collapse. Then I hope the families of the accused will go after Nifong with everything available.
Nifong should be thrown out of office, sued, and prosecuted. He should never, ever again practice law. I hope they turn him inside out.

If the students were black, this would have been handled far differently, imo. The minute the word leaked that the gal only had to pick “the attackers” out of a line up of the frat brothers, the case would have ended…and then the lawsuit would begin..
