Forget Darfur, The UN Has A CAVIAR CRISIS To Deal With!

By: Pam On: Jan/3/07 -

People are being slaughtered as we blog and what is the UN doing about it?  New rape allegations, promising action that we have been promised before, and, well, I had to throw in a gratuitous Annan recommendation, but don’t fret, because:

A United Nations panel has lifted a ban on international trade in several types of caviar, but still hasn’t decided whether to permit exports of the highly prized - and pricey - beluga variety, an official said yesterday.

The move by a U.N.-sponsored conservation organization means that Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan can legally sell limited amounts of the gourmet delicacy on the world market in 2007.

Last year, the U.N. banned the global trade in most Caspian caviar - the processed eggs of the sturgeon - to help protect the endangered fish.

Maybe they can send the sturgeon that were protected, to the citizens of Darfur that are starving to death!
