According to Fox News, National Intelligence Director John Negroponte will resign and become deputy secretary of state.
The move is currently in the works and will likely be announced by the White House by the end of the week.
Negroponte’s intelligence post has been offered to retired Admiral Thomas McConnell, who was former head of the National Security Agency and was the top intelligence officer under Gen. Colin Powell during the first Gulf War, the official said.
There’s no word on whether McConnell has accepted or declined the offer.
