Barney Frank:“It’s not ethnic cleansing in the sense that they’re killing people or [driving] people out,…”

No Barney Frank didn’t accuse the Bush administration of outright genocide, but he most definitely inferred it:

“And, what I believe is, at this point you’re not talking about [inaudible], but what you’re talking about is, I think, a [inaudible], what you’re talking about is when you simply, in a calculated way, refuse to do anything for well over a year … [inaudible] … and [stuttering] I, I, the policy I think here is ethnic cleansing by inaction.

“It’s not ethnic cleansing in the sense that they’re killing people or [driving] people out, but what we need to recognize here is that, they’re in this happy position for them, where the federal government does nothing, as they become richer and richer, because well not only black people needed housing assistance, but they were [predominantly poor, who did it], to simply not do anything to alleviate this housing crisis which … was being exacerbated by Katrina … [inaudible] they, they, they let the hurricane do the ethnic cleansing, because then they’re, all they’re doing is not resisting it, that’s why I call ethnic cleansing by inaction, and I know that there are people who were very happy that, as a result, … [inaudible] … [so that] Louisiana would become a more widely Republican [city] … [inaudible] … because if you lose 100,000 black voters … then you have to take a state that was prodominately Republican and made it [inaudible].”

To me, that is the most appalling part of this!  It all gets down to the vote. Not the human being.  If this had been a predominately Republican district, would he even be talking about this?  We don’t know for sure.  What we do know for sure is that Barney Frank is fully aware of the fact that the feds can not go and rebuild private property!

Barney Frank is just looking for a boy from mexico if you know what i mean?
    young boy no old guys!

frank is the son of a pig and is evil as can-be so what do you care what this pig is saying we need to understand this government is not our government but is in the hands of evil people who hate our freedoms.

some day soon the money disappears from this country and you may stand up and just say no to all the evil things you see, but by that time most of you will be only asking for a hand-out from the new world order.

I think most people have read that the city did not keep adequate maintenance on this levee but to me I find it interesting that after Hurricane Betsy did soo much damage to this city in 1965 that the Army Corps of Engineers designed a Lake Pontchartrain Hurricane Barrier to shield the city with flood gates like those that protect the Netherlands from the North Sea. Construction began in 1971 but was haulted in 77 because a federal judge ruled, in a suit brought by Save Our Wetlands, that the Corps’ environmental impact statement was deficient. After a decade of court battles this plan was scrapped and the Corps’ decided to just reinforce the levee’s.

Some of the breeches in the levee’s that failed were due to simple lack of poor maintenance practices. Oak trees that were planted too close, burrowing animals that created large tunnels that undermined already weak foundations.

Maintenance and inspection are the responsibility of local levee boards.

Sooo…I mean this was a tragedy and I don’t think anyone disputes that but GENOCIDE by inaction?

And as a side thought…how come we don’t hear too much about Mississippi? More than one million people in that state were affected also but all we hear is New Orleans.

But to imply that ALL OF THIS is being looked at as GREAT for the Republicans to get Dem’s out of a state is just about the biggest pile of crap I’ve ever heard.

    I just don’t get it.

And as a side thought…how come we don’t hear too much about Mississippi?

Because nothing - anywhere near as devastating happened there.

The aftermath of Katrina’s wrath on New Orleans (I was there in September) is of Biblical proportion. The sight of those sticken neighborhoods would leave even the hardest heart aching in pain (or at least it oughtto).

There are families and neighborhoods which, put simply, will never recover their lives, belongings, and sense of continuity for a place which was generally there own.

I find it amusing (albeit sad) that so many have an opinion about this government’s turning its back on Katrina since these are AMERICANS as we go attempt to “conquer the world in the name of peace”.

The present administration’s inability (or refusal) to address the ills and status quo that remains the aftermath of Katrina is enough to make any decent thinking American wonder at what truly motivates the Executive branch of this government.

    It’s a national embarassment.

3- Excuse me Eden? Yes Mississipi was just as devastated but the difference is, you had one region that, although poor, were able to act on their own, whereas in the other, you had a society that was dependant on the government. It isn’t the governments job to rebuild private property, in fact it is against our laws. These people that lived and built in the region chose to be where they were, which was a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.

The aftermath in NOLA? Like the war zone on the streets that is BACK. The hurricaine displaced them until Jan 06′, but they are back and they are just as dangerous. Or were you talking about the political corruption? Where is your outrage at the city and state officials that were charged with protecting their residents?

    Turning it’s backs?

The world is changing, the climates are changing and due to that storm activity is CHANGING.

You want to BLAME the United States government for ALL ACTS OF GOD?

Did you find it sad at all that the debit cards worth $2,000 that were issued to Katrina victims were being completely abused? There were reports of these cards being used at strip clubs in Houston and these cards did purchase designer pocketbooks.

THAT’S NOT AN EMBARRASSMENT TO YOU?

Oh and please don’t even think about defending this NOR telling me the media went overboard with it’s reports because I could say the same to you about ANYTHING you have to mention about our President and this present administration.

    The street goes both ways.

Yes. You’re speaking of race here I suspect.

That ‘ticking time bomb’ you mention has been in the building since Reconstruction. Though I don’t hold those residents and YES THEY WERE HARDER-HIT entirely without responsiblity I think the response of this government given the funds being heaped into an unwinable war rather than helping our own NO MATTER WHAT their socio-economic status is reprehensible.

The world is changing, the climates are changing and due to that storm activity is CHANGING.

Yes thanks Mr. Gore for helping finally bring some attention to it.

You want to BLAME the United States government for ALL ACTS OF GOD?

No. Only for this government’s response (or lack thereof).

Sandy? Many PEOPLE do many things that embarass me irrespective of whether or not their poverty-stricken blacks who see their lives as helpless and without hope. But I don’t think any of us has the right to decide who’s worthy and who isn’t.

The Iraqi people over the residents of New Orleans? Hmmmmmmm. Let me see now. I’ll go with the folks at home.

Yes. You’re speaking of race here I suspect. I am speaking of economic class. Welfare dependent citizens..and let’s not kid ourselves and say that NOLA didn’t depend on that particular class of people…And, what has happened to the money that has been given for recovery in NOLa? Federal funds..I’m not even addressing all the charity funds.. We know that they built a statute and redecorated Blanco’s offices..what happened to the federal funds that have been distributed to LA?

There was a lesson to be learned..you can not have an entire region, that has depended on government support their entire life, face a disaster, and suddenly expect them to fend for themselves…those people have been kept down by the system..the welfare system..

    #12 For Peejz-

I am speaking of economic class. Welfare dependent citizens..and let’s not kid ourselves and say that NOLA didn’t depend on that particular class of people…

My take is not ‘kidded’. It’s a long-range look at what got people where they are and the standard by which we now (some of us anyhow) demand that they pull their weight like those who’ve been generationally more priviledged.

Look, I’m no apologist for the white race but some of this shit is so blatantly obvious it smacks you dead in the face.

Those poor bastards in N.O. were generationally abandoned by a system of repetition which (as in most inner city situations) relegates the perpetuation of a decided “using of the system”. Do I like it? No. Do I think we can get them through it by simply say “HEY YOU! Learn to help yourselves!” NO.

And, what has happened to the money that has been given for recovery in NOLa? Federal funds..I’m not even addressing all the charity funds.. We know that they built a statute and redecorated Blanco’s offices..what happened to the federal funds that have been distributed to LA?

I’m certainly no expert (nor would I purport to be) about the designation nor the ultimate application of NOLA funds. That’s just it. Who’s keeping track.

I tell you Peejz (I don’t know if you’ve been there) but if you have not I can suggest going there and seeing how the French Quartier thrives (much because of the resilience of the Gay Community) while the less affluent neighborhoods are still unliveable and rat-infested. It’s a war zone.. one may (I imagine) just as well be in downtown Baghdad.

But the difference is its OUR backyard….

Wait…I’m holding my sides here…hold on…I’m almost done laughing..

Hold onto them as long as you like. Rub them until you have an orgasm for all I care.

You want to thank Al Gore for creating the internet or what? I’m confused.

If you did your homework instead of simply spouting overheard euphemisms you’d realize he was crutial in its development.

Yes. Thanks for the spell check. I’ll be keeping an eye on yours now.

But if you’re going to correct someone dear please use the proper personal pronoun “you”. “ya mean”? Hmm, no I don’t.

Be consistent. It’ll give you a bit of credibility.

    with 2 DD’s?

    Now that I read it, no I don’t mean ‘2 DD’s’

First rule: Always spell the word “two”.

    Second mistake:

“two DD’s?” is wrong too. You have to be awfully careful when you correct people sweetie.

It’s the collective not the possessive.. It’s properly “two DDs”.

    Grammar lesson over.

Of course it was caused by Global Warming! Global Warming caused the sharp rise in the number and intensity of hurricanes when Katrina happened! Then Global Warming caused there to be almost no hurricanes last season!!! You see how dangerous it is???

Global Warming is causing the 70 degree temps in New York and the East right now!!! And the bitter cold in Northern california…Global Warming too!!!

Never, ever disparage our role model, Al Gore!!! Al Gore, after creating the Internet, naturally had to turn his attention to the next thing! Now what could he do after that? A hard act to follow, no? But he found it: Saving the planet!!!

Now Al remembered from his childhood all the gurus of that time predicitng another ice age (global cooling). That one was taken; it was old and worn out. There’s only one other choice in the climate change predicition business: Global Warming! And so, Al Gore was off to his new success, his next claim to fame: Savior of the Planet!

And when you think about it, he’s right of course! The Earth has been on a general warming trend since the last ice age! That is a fact! So you see Al Gore is correct!

So stop, you neanderthal right-wingers! STOP disparaging Al Gore, our hero and role model! I know you do not have the intellectual capacity to understand what I have said, so just do what I say. You know, you right wingers prevented Al Gore from providing yet another invention to America in 2000, you fools! Al Gore had created the Social Security lockbox, the first in history!!! He just needed to get elected, then he’d finish the task! But oh, no, you neanderthal neocons stopped that! And that killed any potential for Al’s SS lockbox. You FOOLS!

Face Facts both sides are rats and both sides hate our freedoms, NO Is a joke Of a City most blacks in power are just looking for the white woman and the cash from the drugs just sold, hell most black woman are looking for the white woman, hell Al Gore is looking for a white woman, is he also looking for Frank?
and hell “why not genocide the mexican people and the mexico city drug dealers been helping to do genocide here with drug for 40 years”.

oh yes, “most of the people moving to old NO Are from mexico”, and within 10 years it will be a fully mexican city, what will Frank say? “well nothing”, becuase within 10 years congress will also be fully hispanic and genocide will mean nothing.
