Iraq, Democrats and the MSM
As we await the President’s new Iraq policy, a few comments made over the weekend are worth mentioning. Seems the Democrats are not on the same page.  Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was on CBS’s Face The Nation yesterday, and she said:
“If the president wants to add to this mission, he is going to have to justify it,” said Pelosi, speaking to host Bob Schieffer. “And this is new for him because up until now the Republican Congress has given him a blank check with no oversight, no standards, no conditions. And we’ve gone into this situation, which is a war without end, which the American people have rejected.”
Yet Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., the Democratic chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, said Sunday that there was little that lawmakers could do to prevent Mr. Bush from expanding the American military mission in Iraq.
“You can’t go in like a Tinkertoy and play around and say you can’t spend the money on this piece and this piece,” Mr. Biden said on the NBC News program “Meet the Press.” “He’ll be able to keep the troops there forever, constitutionally, if he wants to.”
“As a practical matter,” Mr. Biden added, “there is no way to say, ‘Mr. President, stop.’ “
And remember when they said they were going to work 5 days a week, so everybody better get used to it? Well, Drudge ran with DEM VOW ALREADY BROKEN: HOUSE SETS 4-DAY WORK WEEK.  It seems that our fearless leaders have pressing business:
Democrats ran to expand the work week in the House to 5 days. But guess how long that lasted?
Not even one week!
“Culture Shock on Capitol Hill: House to Work 5 Days a Week” front-paged the WASHINGTON POST in December.
Majority leader Steny Hoyer said members of the House will be expected in the Capitol for votes each week by 6:30 p.m. Monday and will finish their business about 2 p.m. Friday.
Explained the POST: “Forget the minimum wage. Or outsourcing jobs overseas. The labor issue most on the minds of members of Congress yesterday was their own: They will have to work five days a week starting in January.”
But on the morning after the night before, on the first full week of the new congress, Hoyer has pulled back from his vow!
A Hoyer press release obtained by the DRUDGE REPORT boldly declares: “Monday, January 8, 2007: The House is not in session.”Hill sources claim The House is taking Monday ‘off’ this week, because of the championship football game between Ohio State and the University of Florida.
And, of course, the following Monday is the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
100 hours…starting…soon
Most of you know that I am no fan of the New York Times, and it is because of stories like these: NYT: THREATENED BY THE INTERNET, TIME MAGAZINE SLIMS DOWN
TIME magazine, which has been coming out every Monday for over 36 years, hit the streets last Friday instead.
“I believe that getting the magazine on newsstands on Friday helps us set the news agenda,” explained Richard Stengel, the managing editor.
NEW YORK TIMES media columnist David Carr takes the opportunity to rain on TIME’s first weekend parade:
“At the end of the month, there will be significant layoffs at the magazine division… In the last six months, the huge rate base of Time magazine has been cut by almost 20 percent, the street date has been moved, and at the end of the month, the standard editorial model — a centralized, well-paid cadre processing every bit of copy that comes in the door — will be kaput…”
Carr explains: ‘A tremendous amount of effort has been expended on TIME’s new Web site, which makes its debut Monday.”
Carr knocks the print magazine: “In its current state, a thin weekly on increasingly thin paper, TIME magazine is not much of a thing to behold.”
Carr really should worry about his own organization before he starts knocking another…

Why would Israel be that crazy?
The Sunday Times seems to be engaging in wishful thinking. I don’t know about their unidentified Israeli military sources, but it seems to me that the idea that Israel would use nuclear weapons to take out Iran’s nuclear facilities is ludicrous.

It strikes me that the democrats are okay with a political loss in Iraq just as they were in Vietnam. After Vietnam some 4 million people were slaughtered because of their loyalty to the U.S. I wonder what would happen in Iraq. After all the left’s beloved Saddam is gone now so they would no longer be able to prop him back up. I guess either Iran taking over or complete anarchy is good enough for them.
Interesting.

total set up for the events that followed-
Had we not chosen (as in Vietnam) to be the World Police we’d not be faced with the dilemma of cleaning up our unsuccessful mess.
Same thing in Iraq.
But more importantly you state: After Vietnam some 4 million people were slaughtered because of their loyalty to the U.S.
‘4 million people’ and that goes unchallenged??? State your sources!
I’d strongly advise you read this URL through thoroughly if, in fact, you require real knowledge of that conflict.
And be advised the Americans didn’t lose in Vietnam – the South Vietnamese did. We were simply there guarding boundaries ostensibly.

Good source Ted. I have actually heard 3 million, 3 1/2 million and 4 million. Because I was mad I went with the 4 million.
In reality though I would guess that it’s hard to be exact with any amount over a million. There are just too many variables like for instance how many would have died from heart attack or an accident anyway just to name a few. Either way, one could debate the U.S. leaving in either a pro or con perspective. I always thought it was good until I looked deeper. Can’t change things now other than to learn the lessons from the past for future encounters.

I agree with that except for one clarification: We pulled out in 1972. Then congress cut off support for South Vietnam, while the Chinese and Russians continued their support for the North. It was only a matter of time before the South was worn down.
The war was a political loss.
January 8, 2007 - 06:39 PM on January 8th, 2007
And these are the ones who share the blame for that political loss: Walter Commiekite, Jane Fonda, the anti-war left, John Kerry and Dan Blather, and Congress.

Sure…let’s.
No where did Bon Bon state what you are quoting. Bon Bon said “After Vietnam some 4 million people were slaughtered because of their loyalty to the U.S. I wonder what would happen in Iraq.” Of course, I accurately sourced it to the more accurate 2 million number.
Absolutely no where did Bon Bon state that it was US causualties. If you wish to include those, then that would up the number even higher. We can also include South Vietnaese and other indegenous inhabitants of the area also which would probably push numbers closer to 2.5 million. However, it was obvious that Bon Bon was referencing the persons slaughtered by Pol Pot as a result of our early withdrawal in Viet Nam.
THOSE are the facts, “fellas and gals”.
