Bias Alert: Which NBC Biggie Said, ‘… Cheney, of Course, Who Always Wants to Kill …?’

By: Pam On: Jan/12/07 - 114 Comments
Answer: Chris Matthews, MSNBC Anchor, “Hardball”

Video: Click here to hear Chris Matthews on Vice President Dick Cheney

“They’re working through Cheney, of course, who always wants to kill. And they drag us back into that same mentality of we’re looking for any reason to strike. I think that is the way he is toward Iran right now.”

Unlike Senator Kennedy, Laura felt remorse. She immediately took responsibity. She did NOT leave the scene of the accident for even a moment, let alone a number of hours. There is no evidence that she was intoxicated. The victim was not in her car, nor was she a married individual driving around with someone who was not her spouse.

So come off that idiotic “What about Laura Bush” canard and come up with something substantial to contribute to this discussion.

  13. Peejz
    January 14, 2007 - 07:35 PM on January 14th, 2007

12-(Cheney) It was reported, to those that needed to know, like cops and doctors, immediately. It wasn’t released to the press for approximately 12 hours. Whereas, Kennedy didn’t tell the authorities for 12 hours and during that time, Maryjo died alone in the water..

There’s still a LOT of UNANSWERED questions about that COVER-UP too! Additionally, while Mary Jo will NEVER come back neither will the kid that Laura killed!

    ————————————————-

And as for Kennedy and Mary Jo…for the love of god…..

  17. Robert
    January 15, 2007 - 01:13 AM on January 15th, 2007

The Cheney hunting accident was nothing, and the only reason it got any traction was the MSM attempt to manufacture yet another phony “scandal” associated with the Bush admin.

It fizzled, quicker than most of their attempted “scandals”. To be repeating the same blather now is pretty stupid.

  18. Disabled Vet
    January 15, 2007 - 04:03 AM on January 15th, 2007

To Robert Said– Just like repeating the same blather about Teddy Kennedy and the Mary Jo incident. It’s OVER AND DONE WITH and that’s FINAL! But I am of the school of thought that if the right wingers want to bring up Teddy and Mary Jo I WILL definitely throw Laura Bush’s driving skills (while she was sober)and killing that innocent boy into the mix right back at them. As for Darth Vader’s quail hunting expedition I doubt very highly that the MSM made up all of the shrapnel that went into his “friend’s” body and the fact that he was painfully in the hospital!

You are an idiot without sense of proportion or propriety. Laura Bush, was not a US Senator when she had her ACCIDENT. On the other hand Ted Kennedy may had reason to “off” Mary Jo Kopechne. 14- There was an announcement within 12 hours. Cheney, unlike Kennedy, was concerned for the life of his friend. He also made sure that family was aware of the situation. 23. Super Lib
    January 15, 2007 - 09:01 AM on January 15th, 2007

Oh no, you’re not getting Cheney off the hook so easy. Shrapnel is any material flying through the air that causes injury, and this is what happened. And you don’t know that it wasn’t attempted murder, which would have been conveniently covered up had the watchdog press not diligently done their jobs, as they do on a daily basis.

Disabled Vet is right, and San Francisco Liberal is right! This attempted murder cover-up was extremely serious, and was just another example of right-wing attempts to cover up the truth.

Now Sen. Ted Kennedy and the unfortunate Chappaquiddick event: that was an unfortunate minor accident. Ted tried valiantly to save his passenger, nearly being killed himself. The oxygen deprivation he suffered while swimming underwater desperately trying to locate her caused him to suffer total loss of memory for 12 hours, during which he did not know had happened. He should be given an award for his heroism! He is a Liberal, and that makes all the difference! Liberals want to help, are always good, and can assumed to be always doing the right thing!

PCD–I have NEVER read Sister Toldjah nor do I have any interest. As respects being an “idiot” I doubt that very highly, considering that I have actively served in our military defending THIS country and am paying a painful price for it. I call “the shots like I see ‘em” (like Cheney!) and to me, regardless if Laura Bush was a U.S. Senator or not, anyone who is given the privilege of a driver’s license is also given a mandate of trust and responsibility by the issuing state. Laura flunked on both counts. I doubt very highly that she tried to rescue that young man from the wrecked car and attempted to save his life. I still stand by what I say and believe. The war in Iraq is L-O-S-T and STILL you right wingers are living in delusion. It is now a civil war in which we have no business in interfering with. Our presence in that country stoked the fires from the get-go. More and more Americans are mounting up against it daily, Bush/Cheney approval ratings are subterranean and you will see many Republikans jump ship to vote against the funding and additional 21,000 troops that Bush wants. Even McCain is in deep doo-doo in his home state of Arizona. He won’t be on the Repub ticket in ‘08, that’s for sure! I often wonder why you right-wingers always vote AGAINST your own best interests like health care, help for frail and sick senior citizens, superior education for our children and receiving social security for your futures. Let’s see:

I have healthcare. I am 42. My parents are in their 70’s. They are insured through my father’s retirement and Medicare. $142.00/quarter for co-pay on his retirement insurance.

I live in a community that does much for the seniors. They depend on private contributions as that sum is far greater than government giving. If they ask for help, the community responds and seniors are taken care of. Seniors also get special rates from the utility companies.

Superior education for our kids? So you are in favor of getting the unions out of the system? Or how about vouchers? As long as you don’t hold parents accountable for their children, we will continue to see a decline in the education system!

IRA’s- you obviously are not that proficient at investments, because if you were, that statement never would have been made. IRA’s are a tremendous savings program. These 401K’s offered by employers are also a nice way to have your money grow…The key is to pay attention to what your money is doing..ys, you actually need to pay attention.

It is neither caring nor compassionate to keep generations of people on public assistance…

    Re 48 (Disable Vet)

First off, I must apologize to Peejz for what I am about to say. It usually isn’t my style…

“I often wonder why you right-wingers always vote AGAINST your own best interests like health care, help for frail and sick senior citizens, superior education for our children and receiving social security for your futures.”

You know, I’m not a right winger for the most part DV. I read this statement and I cringe and so I just have to say..

    Go fist fuck yourself.

This statement is so self serving it’s ridiculous. I screams “Me, me MEEE!!!!” like a three year old having a temper tantrum in the middle of a mall.

    “I want free healthcare!”
    “I want free retirement.!”
“I want the government to educate me and/or my children.”

“I deserve it, ME, ME, ME!!!!”

I’ll tell you what, for the most part the best patriots this country has historically offered never had such an outlook. They were willing to give up all they had, including their lives, their lands and their reputations for this country. They never once thought they deserved something from the government, beside protection of their inalienable rights (read the Declaration of Independence, if you don’t know). For someone claiming to be a veteran I though you would understand that, or did you only go for the GI Bill? I got news for you too: if they didn’t feel they deserve it, then you sure as hell don’t.

It pisses me off to no end. This attitude is one of the huge factors that is killing this once great nation- more so than George Bush, Bill Clinton or any of the other men who governs. This fucking attitude, this complacency, this perspective that YOU are all important. Fuck you and your horse, got that?

Fuck that. You may have served your country but you sure as hell don’t know a patriot from a pussy willow.

Let me enlighten you. MY best interest is none of your God Damned business. I’ll teach you one universal concept the founding fathers knew though so get you eyes close to the monitor and really think about this with the left over two wondering brain cells within you thick headed knoggin’:

No matter what, no matter how and no matter where, and no matter when GOVERNMENTS DO NOT SERVE IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE PEOPLE.

If you want the government in your life, fine by me. It is, after all, your life. But DON’T interject them unneeded or uninvited into my life.

I’d rather see the tax dollars go back into the pockets of the people than into the greedy hands of Halliburton. That’s right–I Pay and the money should be going back to ME and the people who need it, not the corporate welfare of Exxon/Mobil, Chevron etc. By the way YOU DON’T have to accept your social security check, a free medical exam, Medicare, or a college grant if YOU don’t want it. No one is twisting your arm or forcing you to fill out the paperwork. As for me I would like government return of tax monies to happen for me and my employees! They work hard enough and they pay taxes too :) Also, NOTHING IS FREE BECAUSE IT HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID INTO THE SYSTEM!

As respects the homeless many of the homeless are veterans, if you didn’t happen to know that and veterans should be given homes and jobs. Additionally, those undocumented workers have been allowed into THIS country by the Bush Crime Family and their corporate masters to drive down wages, eliminate unions and work for slave labor wages.

64- Oh please! Until you pay at the top tax rate don’t tell me you pay BIG taxes. The government takes enough of my money to take care of those in need! My tax dollars pay to take care of those illegals and it pisses me off!

Those “greedy” corporations keep this economy going. You claim to be a business owner, do you take deductions on the business? If so Why? If so, shut the hell up with the corporate welfare bullshit! It is duly noted that you chose to use Haliburton rather than a Microsoft,Apple, Heintz, the Edwards lawfirm, Ned Lamont’s cable Company, Pelosi’s winery etc.,…

The majority of the homeless are not veteran’s…there is no excuse for a vet to be homeless. We offer many services to a vet, but the problem is that those that seek to help these homeless are going in blind…by the time someone get to them, the drugs and booze have done a tap dance on their brain and much of the time, a social worker has no idea of the person’s identity. You forgot to mention that many are alcoholics and drug abusers…

George Bush allowed all these illegals in? What kind of a business do you own? An AM radio fixit shop? They have been streaming in since the last amnesty signing in the 80’s..but GWB has done nothing to stop them..

DV, In the 8 years of Clinton, what did he do to stop Illegal Immigration? Don’t strain yourself, the answer is NOTHING! In fact, he tried to gut border enforcement entirely.

I lived in SoCal for the first half of the 90s. I saw the bonzai charges of the illegals thru the car lanes at the border. I saw the deaperate pleas of the elected officeials for more border agents, the national guard to called out, the army put on the border all get ignored by Clinton while he was playing with Cigars and Monica’s anatomy.

I don’t negate Clinton’s role in the illegal immigrant problem. I AM NOT A CLINTON FAN! The amnesty program started with Reagan and continued on with Bush I, Many of those problems were dumped on Clinton when he took office in Jan 93. Unfortunately he had a Republikan controlled Congress who blew off a lot of his immigration reform proposals and continued on until he left office. The problem INCREASED with Bush II and still continues to this very day. I agree that Clinton was in collusion with the Bush Crime Family by allowing our borders become sieves. I was and STILL am against NAFTA which Clinton railroaded through Congress and has caused ALL of OUR manufacturing jobs to go to hell in a hand basket. NAFTA has also gutted the Mexican agriculture culture and eliminated many jobs for those people which is why many are running to this country. Also, the U.S. manufacturing companies that went to Mexico pay them next to nothing in wages which is another reason why they’re here as they can make more money. Besides Halliburton the corporations like Apple, GM, IBM, Proctor & Gamble AND BIG OIL encouraged it (the list goes on and on) –look at all the cheap labor working on the oil rigs. Regarding homeless veterans they had very few programs for them, and in fact Bush CUT BACK on veterans aid. I know this personally because in my spare time I VOLUNTEER at the local VA hospital and I have chances SPEAK to many of them to find out how they got that way. A lot has to do with untreated mental disorders they had after Vietnam, the Gulf War and now Iraq/Afghanistan. Thank God Sen. Boxer is addressing this issue, like PTSD, and some things are FINALLY being done about it. The VA needs beefed up funding and hopefully this Congress will provide it for these very sick veterans! I suggest you get off your Lazy Boy and take a ride over to your local VA Hospital and push around some disabled vets in their wheelchairs or spend time talking to some very lonely people and let them know that you care, if that is possible with you!

Alcoholism and drugs are the end result of PTSD. Regarding the families of these sick veterans many of them DON’T HAVE ANY FAMILIES or if they do their families turned their backs on them and rejected them because of their mental disorders. Teddy Kennedy did NOT push the amnesty through. It was Reagan from the get-go as by then there were thousands of illegals here and there was no law enforcement established by the Republikans to arrest them and send them back. You can blame this one on the Republikans and their corporate masters as it started with Reagan breaking up the Air Traffic Controllers Union. Don’t blame Clinton for all of the illegals being here. It’s all a part of the New World Order which started with Nixon and Ford. You need to get your facts straight and read the history. “Hey everyone–I Pay BIG taxes so I expect the best from MY government on the return of my money. Telling me to go “fuck off”doesn’t change the government.”

You must have a plate in your head, because you obviously have reading comprehension problems. I told you to fuck off because you had the audacity to tell me what is best for me.

“I’d rather see the tax dollars go back into the pockets of the people than into the greedy hands of Halliburton. That’s right–I Pay and the money should be going back to ME and the people who need it, not the corporate welfare of Exxon/Mobil, Chevron etc.”

I completely agree. Corporate welfare must cease, but are you actually niave enough to think that if “Universal Healthcare” is implemented that they will use existing taxes to fund it? You are talking about governement tale over of up to 1/7 of our economy.

No, you liberals love your entitlement state, and a fundamental truth is that to create it you will need mor money. In turn, that means an increase in taxes, which in turn means less economical growth and less money in my pocket.

Keep you fucking hands out of my pocket.

“By the way YOU DON’T have to accept your social security check, a free medical exam, Medicare, or a college grant if YOU don’t want it. No one is twisting your arm or forcing you to fill out the paperwork.”

I agree- simply allow me to opt out of social security and that is a fair deal. I’ll take the money I pay, which is unlikely I will never see any of (as the system will be broken by the time I retire) and invest it in something that will actually allow me to support MYSELF when I retire, instead of living off dog food and grass stew.

“As for me I would like government return of tax monies to happen for me and my employees! They work hard enough and they pay taxes too :) Also, NOTHING IS FREE BECAUSE IT HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID INTO THE SYSTEM!”

Not true. Plenty of folks get yhinks for free. That said at the same time you are right- it isn’t free for me. I pay and someone else gets the benefit when it comes to the entitlement society.

Including social security, there is NOTHING the private sector can’t do bettere than the government. Places my share of Social security in a low risk money market or a frigging savings account and I’ll do better every time.

70- Alcoholism and drugs are not a result of PTSD, otherwise all the addicts we have would be sufferingfrom PTSD. PTSD is an excuse for the addiction…
Funding for Veterans up 27%, But Democrats Call It A Cut

funding for veterans is going up twice as fast under Bush as it did under Clinton. And the number of veterans getting health benefits is going up 25% under Bush’s budgets. That’s hardly a cut.

And Einstein, next time you want to discuss facts, come to the table with one..you just make it up as you go along.

1- I never blamed Clinton for all the illegals here.
2- Yes it was Kennedy and his cronies…Reagan at least had the stones to call it what it was, AMNESTY! The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 was pushed through by the partyof power..the DEMOCRATS
    3. Ed Meese III, attorney general of the United States from 1985 to 1988:
In the mid-80’s, many members of Congress ” pushed by the Democratic majority in the House and the Select Commission on Immigration and Refugee Policy ” advocated amnesty for long-settled illegal immigrants. President Reagan considered it reasonable to adjust the status of what was then a relatively small population, and I supported his decision.
In exchange for allowing aliens to stay, he decided, border security and enforcement of immigration laws would be greatly strengthened ” in particular, through sanctions against employers who hired illegal immigrants. If jobs were the attraction for illegal immigrants, then cutting off that option was crucial.
Beyond this, most illegal immigrants who could establish that they had resided in America continuously for five years would be granted temporary resident status, which could be upgraded to permanent residency after 18 months and, after another five years, to citizenship.Note that this path to citizenship was not automatic. Indeed, the legislation stipulated several conditions: immigrants had to pay application fees, learn to speak English, understand American civics, pass a medical exam and register for military selective service. Those with convictions for a felony or three misdemeanors were ineligible. Sound familiar? These are pretty much the same provisions included in the new Senate proposal and cited by its supporters as proof that they have eschewed amnesty in favor of earned citizenship. The difference is that President Reagan called this what it was: amnesty. Indeed, look up the term “amnesty” in Black’s Law Dictionary, and you’ll find it says, “the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act provided amnesty for undocumented aliens already in the country.”Like the amnesty bill of 1986, the current Senate proposal would place those who have resided illegally in the United States on a path to citizenship, provided they meet a similar set of conditions and pay a fine and back taxes. The illegal immigrant does not go to the back of the line but gets immediate legalized status, while law-abiding applicants wait in their home countries for years to even get here. And that’s the line that counts. In the end, slight differences in process do not change the overriding fact that the 1986 law and today’s bill are both amnesties.
After a six-month slowdown that followed passage of the legislation, illegal immigration returned to normal levels and continued unabated. Ultimately, some 2.7 million people were granted amnesty, and many who were not stayed anyway, forming the nucleus of today’s unauthorized population.
So here we are, 20 years later, having much the same debate and being offered much the same deal in exchange for promises largely dependent on the will of future Congresses and presidents.

Will history repeat itself? I hope not. In the post-9/11 world, secure borders are vital. We have new tools ” like biometric technology for identification, and cameras, sensors and satellites to monitor the border ” that make enforcement and verification less onerous. And we can learn from the failed policies of the past.

President Bush and Congress would do better to start with securing the border and strengthening enforcement of existing immigration laws.

And what bill was he referring to? Was it Craig-Kennedy amnesty? Or was it McCain-Kennedy amnesty? Note how Kennedy is involved in both amnesty plans!

    4- Get an education!

5- The firing of those Air Controllers was by far the most ballsy thing Reagan rightfully did…Reminded me of JFK/US Steel

Forgot to add one more thing concerning Reagan. When he was governor of Kalifornia he closed down most of the hospitals for the mentally ill and put them all out on the street. He thought that just by giving them a Prozac or two would cure ALL of their problems. Once he put them out on the street, creating massive homelessness for very unemployable, unstable and sick people, the violent crimes skyrocketed. He’s the same asshole that said “once you’ve seen one redwood tree, you’ve seen them all.”

#75 You are hopelessly ignorant. What you posted is 100% WRONG. I lived through that time and remember it well. What really happened was that a bunch of advocacy groups for the mentally ill people in various institutions decided that it was inhumane and wrong to keep them in institutions. So they went to court and it was the courts who forced the release of these people. They were supposed to transition over to outpatient clinics for help. That part never happened and instead they fell through the cracks. It was NOTHING to do with Reagan.

But because of all the problems the returning vets are coming home with, the govt will have to spend big $$ to take care of them. So they will have to make CUTS in other areas, like to states and cities for their community services OR RAISE TAXES which all you righties just love. As a business person I don’t like to pay higher taxes but if it means helping the veterans or supporting my local police/fire/school/hospital services I will. Don’t blame the homeless, sick, Katrina victims, the elderly, unemployed or children born into poverty. The theft of the Treasury is NOT their fault!

Hey “Disabled Vet”: I am still waiting for you to answer the question: WHO sued to have mental patients turned out of the institutions they were in during the Reagan years in California? Who was it? (hint; it wasn’t Reagan)

I’ve called your bluff and I see that you are just ignoring it. Can’t answer it…won’t answer it…

“Are you doing anything to help these disabled veterans?”

Yes, as my father has been a memeber of the VFW since the late 50’s, I am a member of The Sons of the VFW. I’ve been involved in more acts of volunteer work than I could recall, not just with diabaled vets at the VA (Chalmers Wylie) but in Memorial Day services, Veterns’s Days and other forms of community service.

Most recently, I was involved in support in LIMA Company while stationed in Iraq. I co-ordinated product drives for care packages within my company. They are from my hometown area and I welcomed them home.

You do know who LIMA company are, right DV?

And let’s just say I also have a very personal reason for supporting the troops in very realistic concrete ways.

I respect those men and women- the real folks that served without politicl bias. Matter of fact, it was after speaking with over 100 veterns I concluded that John Kerry was a traitor, not for his service like portrayed by Swiftboat but because of his actions afterwards. I value what they say- they certainly educated me on the topic.

“As I asked earlier why aren’t you volunteering at the local VA Hospital? I detect a lot of selfishness, stupidity, ignorance, apathy and greed in you.”

So now we know: if you do not volunteer at the VA hospital, then you are selfish and greedy. No matter where else you might volunteer.

Take myself for instance. I have over 7000 hours of volunteer service to date in my community, in a position in which I potentially risk my life every time I work.

But now I understand I am really selfish, stupid, apathetic, and greedy. Uh-huh….

Bush Crime Family…LOL. I wonder if you have any idea of the connections between the Bush Family and the Klinton Krime Konnection, let alone hold a clue about the financial disaster the Clintons have caused in this country.

But does your “volunteer” work include helping disabled veterans or do you just stick a “Support Our Troops” magnetic ribbon on your car and think that will ease your mind and take of of business. Put Up Or Shut Up! What kind of “volunteer” work do you do? Boy Scout Troop?

She’s just asking the common courtesy that you follow the same board rules as everyone else. Believe it or not, you aren’t special.

But please continue to not follow her requests. Less ignorance in the world that way.

Or, are you going to tell by that it is in my best interest too?

I don’t have a reading comprehension problem. I asked if your volunteer work included helping the troops. You didn’t answer that. What “danger” could your volunteer work bring to you?

    Yes I did- very clearly.

“What “danger”could your volunteer work bring to you?”

It was never asked of me, nor did I ever say it was. That was Robert.

I guess you DO have reading comprehension problems.

I’ve called your bluff and I see that you are just ignoring it. Can’t answer it:won’t answer it:

You won’t answer the question, “Disabled Vet”. I am hereby planting a flag in the ground and claiming victory on the Reagan debate. You are wrong, and have been shown to be wrong.

From here on out you have no credibility…

Since “Disabled Vet” won’t/can’t answer the fundamental question “WHO sued to have mental patients turned out of the institutions they were in during the Reagan years in California?” I will answer it for the record:

It was a bunch of meddling, do-gooder Liberal IDIOTS in advocacy groups that sued, thinking they were going to force change for the better. They did force change, and the result was far worse than what they claimed the original problem was.

Yet another historical, anecdotal example of the idiocy of Liberalism.
