Cheney: War is Not Run By Committee

I have been waiting a long time for an Executive Branch employee to say this, and as usual, Cheney comes through:

“The president is the commander in chief. He’s the one who has to make these tough decisions,” Cheney said.

“He’s the guy who’s got to decide how to use the force and where to deploy the force,” Cheney said. “And Congress obviously has to support the effort through the power of the purse. So they’ve got a role to play, and we certainly recognize that. But you also cannot run a war by committee.”

“They have absolutely nothing to offer in its place,” Cheney said of Democratic leaders. “I have yet to hear a coherent policy from the Democratic side.”

“They’re convinced that the United States will pack it in and go home if they just kill enough of us,” Cheney said. “They can’t beat us in a standup fight, but they think they can break our will.”

“This is an existential conflict,” Cheney said. “It is the kind of conflict that’s going to drive our policy and our government for the next 20 or 30 or 40 years. We have to prevail and we have to have the stomach for the fight long term.”

Added Cheney: “Iran is fishing in troubled waters inside Iraq.”

“We do not want them doing what they can to destabilize the situation inside Iraq,” Cheney said.

  1. “Cheney: War is Not Run By Committee”

    Hell, maybe it should be.

At least, with this monkey idiot of a president running the show.

“Bush’s plan would be the worst foreign policy blunder since the Vietnam War.”
    -Republican Senator Chuck Hagel

(and he’s not even a democrat!)

  2. Yes it should be run by a committee! Only by progressive consensus can such matters be properly managed!

The committee should be composed of anti-war Liberals, pacifists, known America haters, and chaired by Rep Barbara Lee of Berkeley.

Only then could we have confidence it would be properly managed!

  3. “At least, with this monkey idiot of a president running the show.”

Intersting statement. Even my 8 year old daughter knows that attempting to down grade another persons qualities below oneself is just down to bolsters one’s usually poor self esteem.

  4. “I have yet to hear a coherent policy from the Democratic side.”

I have yet to hear a coherent policy from the Republican side. The only coherent policy I can see is from the Jihadis’.

  5. “Even my 8 year old daughter knows that attempting to down grade another persons qualities below oneself is just down to bolsters one’s usually poor self esteem.”

Just calling it like it is, Ted.

  6. “Just calling it like it is, Ted.”

And exactly how do you know that what you portray is “like it is”?

  7. That’s easy, Ted. Don’t you know that Liberals are by definition intellectuals? They are therefore smarter than the rest of the unfortunate population at large, the groundlings, the proles. So when a Liberal makes such a statement, you can just assume it is correct.

  8. “And exactly how do you know that what you portray is “like it is”?”

Ted, you just can’t pretend to ignore the general consensus out there on the intelectual capacity of GW Bush, hee and across the globe. Have you traveled overseas since Bush has been in office? I have, and everywhere I go Bush is viewed as an utter fool.

Come on…just listen to the man speak. (!)

Look, my entire family back east are Hard-Core Republicans/Bush Lovers and they all agree that when Bush speaks they often involuntarily curl their toes up in their shoes out of discomfort.

I’m sure he’s an OK guy to have around the neighborhood and kick back a few beers with, but he is NOT presidential material. At least, not like it should be.

Super Lib – it’s not clever, it’s lame. try representing your own views instead of very, very weakly mocking someone elses through a 2nd grade attempt at parody.

or, at the very least try and make it interesting or clever.

  9. “Ted, you just can’t pretend to ignore the general consensus out there on the intelectual capacity of GW Bush, hee and across the globe.”

I’m not ignoring the general consensus. I am saying the general consensus is unfounded.

“Have you traveled overseas since Bush has been in office? I have, and everywhere I go Bush is viewed as an utter fool.”

No I haven’t, but most folks overseas thing the same of the vast majority of Americans.

“Come on:just listen to the man speak.”

I have…and what’s your point? i’ve heard him speak well, and at times I’ve heard him speak poorly. It is a misconception that oration skills are a sign intelligence of the lack thereof. “He sounds stupid so he must be stupid.” is an archaic concept, one even more pathetic when advanced through the protective sheild of a keyboard and anonymity.

I’m sure he’s an OK guy to have around the neighborhood and kick back a few beers with, but he is NOT presidential material. At least, not like it should be.

And that’s the beauty of the process that you just seem to miss.

“Presidential material” can be anyone who is of age and proper citizenship. He is no less “presidential material” than Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan JFK or FDR.

  10. Ted, you just can’t pretend to ignore the general consensus out there on the intelectual capacity of GW Bush, hee and across the globe. Have you traveled overseas since Bush has been in office? I have, and everywhere I go Bush is viewed as an utter fool. Who cares? When they stop trading with us, or stop accepting our aid, because of him, then there would be merit to your arguement, but as it is there isn’t. Did you graduate from 2 ivy league schools SF? One’s ability to speak in public is not an indication of intelligence, and it wouldn’t take someone that has higher degrees to have learned that… Most of the people in this country have a negative image of France, but that doesn’t stop us from traveling there and doing business with them…
