Cuban leader Fidel Castro has long prided himself on Cuba’s doctors and free public health care system, but that system seems to have let him down after he fell ill in July , U.S.-based doctors said on Tuesday.
Based on a report in Tuesday’s edition of Spain’s El Pais newspaper, the doctors ” who have no first-hand knowledge of Castro’s condition ” said Castro had received questionable or even botched care at the hands of health experts on his communist-ruled island:
Gerson and Dr. Meyer Solny, a veteran gastrointestinal expert at New York Presbyterian Hospital and the Weill Cornell College of Medicine, said Castro’s doctors erred by seeking to avoid a colostomy ” or opening in the abdomen to get rid of stool ” after an initial operation to remove part of his large intestine.
“They took a chance, which was probably not the best judgment under the circumstances,” Gerson said.
Why didn’t he just come to the States? Oh that’s right, they’ve got free healthcare!

Damned socialized medical treatment. Screw those who can’t afford health-care. It’s their own fault for not working to a decent job that will provide health benefits. They are just a burden on society anyway. Kill off the weak!! Make way for my new SUV!!! Go, Go USA!!!!
I think all liberals who clamor for socialized medicine should have to travel to Cuba for treatment. We’ll see how many live to continue their fallacies.
1- Please explain how socialized is better than none…and by none, what do you mean? I have a welfare sister-in-law on medicaid, from what Auntie says, welfare Susie has had all kinds of problems with her health, but she has gotten a hearing aid, new knees, treatment for ulcers and allergies, and it is all free…to her!
#2 That is an excellent idea! A win-win. Cuba’s wonderful socialized health care can show the world how great it is, and the lessening of the numbers of Liberals would be a very good thing for America.
There’s no such thing as “free” healthcare. Shoddy equipment, quacks, and a lower life expectancy.
My wife asked me about the surgery Castro underwent. I explained the difference between a colectomy and a colostomy. I understand where Castro is coming from on rejecting the colostomy because I did. I had one procedure, not THREE. The wonderful Cuban and Spanish FREE OF COST doctors are killing Castro.
