I’m Guessing Michelle Malkin Is An Unfriendly Blogger?

I say that after reading this AP article written Erica Werner.  Here is how liberal bloggers are referred to:

Friendly bloggers can help defuse attacks. Liberal bloggers rose to Pelosi’s defense when she was criticized after the November election for employing nonunion workers at her vineyard.

This is how Michelle is referred to by the AP:

A number of liberal blogs defended the work of these journalists.

“The broader campaign by the right against war coverage has, with a few exceptions, amounted to little more than thuggery designed to get news orgs to think twice before bringing images back to America of the carnage in the Middle East,” wrote Greg Sargent at The Horse’s Mouth, a blog on reporting and politics, part of The American Prospect’s Web site.

Michelle Malkin and Hot Air have been trying to get a retraction or correction from the AP,  on stories that depended on Jamil Hussein as the source.  Michelle went all the way to Iraq to verify that the Sunni mosques that as Hussein claimed and AP reported as “destroyed,” “torched” and “burned and [blown] up” are all still standing.

Michelle has pictures of those mosques.

Update: Some AP apologists are denying that the news organization never reported that the mosques were destroyed. As I noted above, Mary Katharine Ham saved the timestamped and dated wire copy and tracked the evolution of the story:

Sunnis claim mosques and houses burned by Shiite militia, police watch
By QAIS AL-BASHIR
Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) – Sunni residents in a volatile northwest Baghdad neighborhood claimed Friday that revenge-seeking Shiite militiamen had destroyed four Sunni mosques, burned homes and killed many people, while the Shiite-dominated police force stood by and did nothing.

The reports were the most serious allegations of retribution in Baghdad the day after Sunni insurgents killed 215 people and wounded 257 with five car bombs and mortar fire in the capital’s Sadr City Shiite slum.

Bryan has a great post about the misleading nature of the AP

  1. Malkin is a profeesional writer. Blogs by the big people, like her, with professional standing among the journalist crowd, seem to live in a separate reality. All bloggers talk about something and if that is current events and politics, amateur authors or journalist wannabes are probably mroe interested in the issue than style or finesse.

Malkin seems to be more about the writing than the story being writtne about. Whether than makes her liberal or conservative, friendly or unfriendly is subject to the opinion of the reader. I personally dislike labels like these. It distracts from the debate.

  2. 1- Yes Michelle is a professional writer, but she is also a blogger with 2 very successful blogs, MM and Hot Air. I feel that she is very much about the story. She writes on a subject and follows up on it..on every blog post? Nope, but the majority, yes. She and Bryan Preston went to Bagdad to verify their version of an AP story..I say story because first they said that the mosques were destroyed andthen they said they didn’t say it..not too smart considering that they can’t erase what is out and about in the internet!
