Flygate Update: Pelosi Blames DOD and Whitehouse For Aircraft Lies

UPDATE: Nancy Pelosi Goes ‘On the Record’Speaker of the House on new role in Congress, war in Iraq, plane flap

UPDATE: Pentagon limits Pelosi jet size:The Department of Defense yesterday sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that puts limits on the size of the plane she may use to travel across the country and restricts the guests she can bringI have posted on the subject of Nancy Pelosi receiving military aircraft for travel, see here and here.   Fox has this article referencing the issue, and I saw the interview between Greta and the Speaker , discussing the issue.  I have not heard one single person question her need for the military trasport, but I and others have questioned the entourage that goes along with her.

UPDATE:Lauer’s PR Nudge to Nancy: Take Smaller Plane and Smile:Message to Nancy Pelosi: when NBC’s Matt Lauer and David Gregory agree that your quest for a big plane is turning into a PR mess, and ABC’s Chris Cuomo calls it a case of “jet envy,” it’s time to fold your wings.
In the Fox article, she states:

She said reports filtering out into the media regarding inquiries about the use of a military plane nearly the size of Air Force One for her travel to and from Washington, D.C., shows a “misrepresentation that could only be coming from the administration … one would wonder why the practice deemed to be necessary from a security standpoint would be mischaracterized in the press.”

Yet on Greta tonight, she blamed the DOD, stating they have an axe to grind with her because of her citicism of Rumsfeld and the Pentagon.  Greta tried to explain that people weren’t questioning her need for security, but moreso the passenger list.  This was met with someone determined to change the subject.  She kept repeating that she didn’t want security etc., and everytime Greta brought up the real issue, she went back to I would rather fly commercial and the POTUS insists that I need security.  The reason she needs to go back to SanFrancisco? To see her family, the district never was mentioned.  She never stated anything about the passenger list on Greta’s interview..The least she could do is be consistent with her lies:

But when Pelosi requested clarification from the Department of Defense about plane size and whether she can have friends and colleagues catch rides on the military aircraft, criticism mounted that the speaker talks a good game on ethics, but is not walking the walk against the “culture of corruption” she so frequently criticized while in the minority last Congress.

“This is not about having secure communications and secure aircraft available to her. It’s about an arrogance of extravagance that demands a jumbo jet that costs $22,000 an hour to operate to taxi her and her buddies back and forth to California,” Republican Conference Chairman Adam Putnam of Florida told FOX News.

Pelosi said Wednesday her inquiry about taking members of Congress and others along for the ride had “nothing to do with family and friends and everything to do with security.”

Others? Who?  And is she asking if the “others” will be secure?

  1. I’ve got an idea, supply Pelosi with an OV-10 modified for in flight refueling and flying lessons. End of problem and controversy.

  2. It appears that she has been given the military’s decision..see updates to the post

  3. peejz,

I’ve seen that, but she and her staff want Air Force One “lite”, the 757-200, and will not settle for less. They want the comfort, the graft, the opulence to fundraise with. I say give her th opposite, a Piper Cub!

  11. Glad to hear Pentagon is taking firm line on Pelosi One. Former speaker, Mr. Hastert used a military version of the Gulfstream III, a C-20. It is possible same aircraft’s range might be extended to San Fransisco. If not, Ms. Pelosi could sue for the military version of the Gulfstream V, a C-37A, a very sweet ride indeed. It can probably fly to Japan non-stop and is more spacious.

    Why waste money?

  13. Give the witch a permanent pass for a Greyhound Bus. Even with biodyguards and immediate staff there would be 30+ seats left over. She could make them available free to the poor, who the Democrites profess to love and fight for.

  15. I have a better idea. Remember the plane Kerry bought to campaign in? It fits the bill and Kerry and Heinz-Kerry can fund the flights for Pelosi out of their own pocket without touching taxpayer funds.

Hey from each according to their ability (or accumulated money) to each according to their need (or political desires).
