From Ian and Ian , and Michelle, comes this:

I was hired by the Edwards campaign for the skills and talents I bring to the table, and my willingness to work hard for what’s right. Unfortunately, Bill Donohue and his calvacade of right wing shills don’t respect that a mere woman like me could be hired for my skills, and pretended that John Edwards had to be held accountable for some of my personal, non-mainstream views on religious influence on politics (I’m anti-theocracy, for those who were keeping track). Bill Donohue—anti-Semite, right wing lackey whose entire job is to create non-controversies in order to derail liberal politics—has been running a scorched earth campaign to get me fired for my personal beliefs and my writings on this blog.

In fact, he’s made no bones about the fact that his intent is to “silence” me, as if he—a perfect stranger—should have a right to curtail my freedom of speech. Why? Because I’m a woman? Because I’m pro-choice? Because I’m not religious? All of the above, it seems.

She lived up to her reputation I see!   By the way, she makes reference to her Catholic insider!  Well, here’s the rebuttal to that.. Frances Kissling does not speak for, nor does she represent the Catholic Church!

Here, the AP states that she resigned from the Edwards campaign:

One of the chief campaign bloggers for Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards quit Monday after conservative critics raised questions about her history of provocative online messages.

Amanda Marcotte posted on her personal blog, Pandagon, that the criticism “was creating a situation where I felt that every time I coughed, I was risking the Edwards campaign.” Marcotte said she resigned from her position Monday, and that her resignation was accepted by the campaign.

Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, demanded last week that Edwards fire Marcotte and a second blogger, Melissa McEwan, for remarks he deemed anti-Catholic.

Last night, after reading Marcotte’s thoughts about Michelle Malkin, I decided to write down what I thought were characteristics of a strong woman. Here is my list.

    1. She expresses her opinion in a calm, respectful manner. No matter what the outcome is, she DOES NOT scream, swear, throw things, stomp her feet, make ridiculous and baseless accusations, and succeed in embarrassing herself and other women.

    2. She puts the needs of her family, including her husband, ahead of her own needs and desires. This takes a great deal of strength and courage, because it involves self-sacrifice. She realizes that family comes first. Not only that, but she SUPPORTS other women who have made the same choice.

    3. She takes responsibility for her actions, whatever those actions may be. She DOES NOT play the blame game, she DOES NOT play the martyr, and she certainly DOES NOT repeat the mistakes that got her into trouble in the first place.

    4. She does not attack other women for being polite when responding to the questions and comments of members of the male gender. (For example: Marcotte’s references to Michelle Malkin)

    5. She DOES NOT hate men and insist that all men are sexist pigs, who seek to objectify women and oppress them. In fact, she realizes that her sexist comments about men are outright hypocritical, seeing as she is known for complaining about how “all men” are sexist against women.

    6. She DOES NOT accuse other people of bigotry, and then expose herself as a bigot by insulting people of faith. Rather, she states her case against other people’s faiths, WITHOUT turning to petty, foul-mouthed, bigoted insults to make her point. She knows the difference between disagreeing with and even hating a person’s beliefs, and hating the person.

In other words, Amanda Marcotte IS NOT a strong woman. A strong woman, to me, is a woman of character and respectability. Marcotte is neither of those things. Not only that, but she certainly DOES NOT speak for all of womankind. She speaks only for herself.

So thank you very much, Miss Marcotte! But I would prefer it if a strong, respectable, intelligent, well-mannered, non-hypocritical, non-bigoted, non-sexist woman would represent me.
