Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.
Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).
In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.
The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh”more than 20 times the national average.
Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh”guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.
Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.
Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.
“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.
In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

Gore is a fraud and a hypocrite. Anyone who would believe anything Gore is promoting is a gullible simpleton.
Go ahead and laugh, but the jokes on you. The rest of the planet knows that Mr. Gore is a genius, a leader, and a prophet. He is going to save all of us, including you, and for that you should be grateful.
The proper thing for all of you to do is to stop denying what the Global consensus has reached. The experts have decided, and now you should/must adopt their conclusion. You are qualified to do nothing else. The debate is over, it is time to submit to the drastic action required to save the planet before it is too late.
Of course there will be disruptions, economic consequences, it will be very difficult for some. Such is the nature of change. But what is the cost of inaction? Total destruction! Is there a choice? NO!!! Many of you may lose your jobs, your homes, pay much higher taxes. So what? The U.S. consumes far too much of the world’s resources anyway so think of it as penance for past transgressions! If the U.S. economy fails because of this, it is just a correction, a restructuring, reflective of the change from an aggressive, Imperialist colonialist America, to one that assumes a subservient role to the U.N. and New Socialism. That is the only alternative!
Many of you know what I am talking about, you understand. Of course I do not expect any of the right-wingers will understand the full depth of, meaning of this understanding. San Francisco Liberal, you appear to understand. Mr. Roggenbuck, surely you concur. Mr AKD, I can tell from your excellent posts that you also are fully on board.
I just hope Mr. Gore is still willing to take the reins of leadership, assume control of this Global mandate, and stop this catastrophe. With all the undermining, criticism, obfuscation, and obstruction he has faced, it is a wonder that he is even still willing to assume the mantle of global hero and save all of these undeserving blasphemers!
But those of us who know human activity is causing global warming, have seen and accepted An Inconvenient Truth as such, know that we must act without further debate and delay!!!
The U.N. may just have to send military force to enact the needed measures to stop and reverse global warming! And it will be the fault of all you obstructionists! Luddites!!!
The average European power consumption per head is at ~7000kWh/year

..giving a power consumption in the US of 3.717 trillion kWh (2004) with ~300 million people, the result is a power consumption of ~12000kWh/year -per head and not per household!
You should use some of your wasted energy for a proper calculator!

The info you gave specified the consumption of electricity by the United States as a whole. That would include business as well as households..the figures I provided are for households and not businesses, although I could see where you were mistaken when looking at Gore’s waste. You don’t divide by total population as that would include children living in the home with parents, hence they said household!
Mattias, again you show that you can’t read. The comparison was Gore’s home to the average AMERICAN home, not European.
Gore is a hypocrite in the worst way.
4- So I wonder, based upon which figures the Department of Energy (besides, the figure 10656kWh is of 2001) defines an average household. In the report that mentions the figure it says that an average household in New York only consumes half the power. And that page is still peanuts against the dozens of detailed statistics on power consumption that show all the differences that are caused by the size of the house, the number of people in the household, the area, the types of rooms, etc. etc. etc.
However, I agree that Al Gore probably has a unbelievably energy-squandering house, but what I actually wanted to say is that you people (in general) are very likely to waste more power than any other on this planet…
And I find it also interesting that you complain about Gores hypocrisy and his violations concerning a problem (GW) that you claim to not exist… Looks a little bit inconsistent, doesn’t it?

I think Al Gore should be idolized, admired, emulated. He truly is one of the greatest leaders of our time. Look, the experts agree with Gore. None of you are qualified to judge and criticize Gore. If it was not for Gore’s efforts we would not even have the Internet.
Of course his home uses more electricity than average is because it is bigger duh! The difference is that Gore is working to save the planet and the “average” person is just polluting! So stop focusing on trivia and fall in line behind Gore!
