Is The Left Imploding?

I have not had too much good to say about her, but I was appaled by  the actions of the anti-war zealots who tramped up to Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s home in San Francisco, and feel they are over the line:

A few dozen peace activists marched across the Golden Gate Bridge and gathered outside the San Francisco home of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday, demanding that Congress stop funding the war in Iraq.”San Francisco has been against this war from the very beginning,” said Toby Blome, a physical therapist who organized the event. “This is our fifth year of the war, and Nancy needs to wake up and represent San Franciscans.”

Blome, holding a plate of cheese and bread and a glass of wine, was stopped on her way to Pelosi’s front door and told the Speaker would not see them. Blom and about 10 other activists said they plan to camp outside the residence overnight.

Although I don’t think it is ethical, what if another group of activists started targeting the homes of relatives to this group?   Actions such as Code Pink’s are all good an well, until  you turn the tables on them and they resort to crying about how unfair things are!

Is this what Obey had in mind with the term: “Idiot liberals.”

Michelle has more

Dennis Kucinich has a message on his webite for those that backed out of the Nevada debate being hosted by Fox News:

The cancellation in the past two days of two planned nationally televised debates because of candidates’ “scheduling conflicts” and unwillingness to participate smacks of “manipulation by some candidates who would rather run and hide than defend their records and their positions on the war,” Ohio Congressman and Democratic Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich said today while campaigning in Texas.

Widely publicized Presidential debates in New Hampshire in April and in Nevada in August were cancelled after some candidates either backed out after agreeing to participate or declined invitations to attend.

“Whatever their excuses, some candidates are clearly trying to avoid any head-to-head public debate where they will have to answer tough questions — questions about their votes in favor of the Iraq war, their votes in favor of trade policies that have wiped out millions of American jobs, their votes in favor of abridging Constitutional rights by approving the Patriot Act, and their collaboration with insurance companies and pharmaceutical corporations to deny Americans adequate health care protection.”

Kucinich said “it’s an insult to the voters, and the height of cynicism, for candidates to refuse to take the public stage and subject themselves to public scrutiny.”

Don Surber says that U.S. Rep. Rahm Emanuel’s office was  also targeted by the left:

Way to go guys. Without Emanuel and Pelosi, there would be no Democratic majority in the House (although they were ably helped by the incompetence and sloth of Dennis Hastert, the greed of Duke Cunningham, and the lust of Mark Foley).

But we are dealing with people who are never satisfied with anything. They are a small group of people; AP reported there are twice as many conservatives as there are liberals (via James Joyner). They prefer looking from the outside in. Now that they are inside, they turn on their own.

This is political suicide. Jonestown really is applicable. That cult began in California and was praised by Jane Fonda. Noted the AP of this new group, “Organizers count more than 140 arrests so far nationwide. Most involve charges of trespassing or disorderly conduct.”

There is no reasoning with unreasonable people. All I can do is suggest Pelosi read this book.

Previously, I called it the Kos-trich Party. They really want to lose.

Meanwhile, the grown-ups are in charge again at the LA Times, which editorialized today, “Do we really need a Gen. Pelosi?” Gee, she’s getting it from both the left and the Left.

I think Ms. Pelosi should get such treatment when she was dead silent when people from the same groups went and beat on the windows of Karl Rove’s house.

First, you mentioned Obey from Wisconsin, and I just have to say his outburst was hysterical and the most anyone has heard from him in years. This being written by someone whose home state is Wisconsin.
Second, yes, I am confident these are the kind of people he was referring to. At best, the Dems need to corral the fringe portion of their base. At worst, they have created a monster with their ” the american people have spoken” mantra.
Third, there is a limit no one should cross if expecting to be taken seriously while engaged in protest or dissent. Civil disobedience is a left-leaning term.
