“We live in a society where having a handgun at home can be the difference between life and death,”

George Lyon says he wants a gun in his home because it’s his constitutional right. Tom Palmer says he used a gun to ward off a beating. And Gillian St. Lawrence says her shotgun is useless because it has to be unloaded and have its trigger locked.

They are among the six city residents who successfully challenged the District’s long-standing gun law, winning a major ruling Friday in a case that could reach the Supreme Court. The three men and three women share a strong desire to keep guns legally in their homes in what they say is a violent city.

“We live in a society where having a handgun at home can be the difference between life and death,” Palmer said.

  1. DC is one of the really Liberal places in the US where the government is really trying to make sure only the criminals have weaponst to commit crimes with upon a defenseless population.

  2. Hi PCD…you are right on with that one. Living just outside the DC border I can tell you that the whole metro region is infested with the liberal ideologies and the laws that match. It’s really scary at times.

  3. The liberals are running around like chickens with their heads cut off over the judges ruling i mean its like what happened when bill clintons gun ban expired in 2004 and there was no high crime rate and just wait till blooming idiot bloomburg the mayor of NYC and CHICAGOs wind bag mayor RICHARD DAILY will climb up on their soap boxes and be whinning all about this blabbering fools:razz:

  4. Typical neocon arguments. The truth is we will never progress as a society unless the tools of violence are forever removed. Violence only begets further violence. It is the same sort of attitude that leads to invading other nations and perpetrates mass violence upon innocents.
I am certain all of the progressive posters here speak with one voice on this subject. I am sure they agree with me. The formula for a progressive future is the following:

    1. Ban guns, god, and Xtian fundamentalists
    2. Stop discrimination and racism against our Southern neighbors
    3. End the war of aggression against the poor, brown-skinned people of the Middle east
    4. Submit to the mandates of the U.N.
    5. STOP Global Warming
    6. End the burning of fossil fuel and the outrageous, criminal culture of consumption
    7. Raise taxes to ensure every resident gets the Government services they have the right to receive (health care, food, housing, etc.)
    8. End all further exploration and exploitation of oil. NO new drilling!
    9. Maintain the strict ban on nuclear reactors that has kept us safe since the near disaster at Three Mile Island. NO Chernobyls here!!!
    10. Outlaw SUVs; for that matter, outlaw privately owned vehicles. People do not need cars. They can move into ulta high-density housing in the cities and use public transit. If we don’t have enough such housing we simply raise taxes to pay for building it!
    11. Outlaw private schools, especially religious schools. They are divisive, homophobic, and tend to encourage thinking that is ultimately destructive to society.
    12. Enact the fairness doctrine to end the divisive, outrageous anti-social propaganda put out by right-wing radio. Raise taxes to fund NPR expansion and the rebuilding of AAR.
    13. Immediately convene a Constitutional convention, controlled by the Democratic Congress, to make sorely needed reforms to the Constitution. Reform and change has not come fast enough through the courts; it must be accelerated.

I am sure the progressive posters on this site would agree with me! We KNOW the formula for the future!

  5. #4: Congratulations, you’ve just paraphrased the Communist Manifesto. It will be interesting to see how many posters will publicly side with you; how many will come out of the closet. That’s if they have the courage, the guts to stand up, be counted, and acknowledge that Liberalism = Socialism.

Progressive = Liberal = Socialist = Communist Lite

  6. 4, Lenny, move to Cuba or Zimbabwe. Those are failed societies who have done what you want.

  7. Lenny sound a lot like SFL another liberal blabbering like they have been lying around in their strawberry feilds for too long one of those who thinks that if guns and all weapons were banned everybody would get along and the world would be a peaceful place WAKE UP YOU FOOL WERE NOT LIVING LALA LAND:razz:

  8. The only thing wrong with Cuba or Zimbabwe is that they are both victims of the Western colonialist oppressors! Western racists couldn’t stand it when Cuba and Zimbabwe (and others) became independent, so they determined to try to wreck anything started there. They have succeeded in dragging down their eco9nomies, but never the will of the free people!!!

Ans yes, I live in San Francisco, which is one of the few truly progressive and politically sophisticated places in the U.S.! I am not San Francisco Liberal, but I consider him to be on the correct side of the issues.

  9. Lenny, you are an idiot. Robert Mugabe destroyed Zimbabwe, and SF would be a wasteland if not for federal dollars flowing into it. IF SF ever got expelled from the US, you liberal leaches would be “wetbacks” trying to get back into the US.

  10. The very basis for the argument that the Second Amendment as a personal right is throughout the constitutions of the very states that ratified the US Constitution originally. Arguments for the private ownership of guns are made by virtually all of the founding fathers. Violent crime in DC has only gone UP since the ridiculous gun laws were enacted. Every state that has enacted castle doctrine and shall issue concealed carry laws have seen their per capita gun crimes decrease. The only mitigating factor that has been impacting crime is the influx of illegal aliens. They represent only 4% of the population, but almost 25% of the prison population.

  11. There’s some unintended irony in the quote “We live in a society where having a handgun at home can be the difference between life and death”

Doesn’t anyone see it but me?

  12. I caught it, but FAO is correct on this one…
