Rosie Defends Khalid Sheik Mohammed: He Was Robbed Of His Humanity..UPDATE: Rosie Is A Truther
Ian has the Video and NewsBusters has the transcript(partial):
Â
O’DONNELL: I think the man has been in custody of the American government, in secret CIA torture prisons in Guantanamo Bay, where torture is accepted and allowed, and he finally is the guy who admits to doing everything. They finally found the guy. It’s not that guy bin Laden. It’s this guy they’ve had since ‘93. And look, this is the picture they released of him. Doesn’t, he look healthy?
Token non-liberal Elisabeth Hasselbeck was unusually assertive through the course of the discussion, and even exposed how shallow Rosie’s opinions are. Just as Rosie did not answer whether or not she wanted the United States to win in Iraq, she did not answer what she would do with the detained terrorists.
HASSELBECK: What do think should happen? What do you think should happen?
O’DONNELL: We should uphold the standards of the Geneva Convention and lead the free world in democracy.
[Applause]
HASSELBECK: I believe that. But what, specifically, if there was someone, say, who had been plotting an attack, how do you think they should be interrogated? What methods do you think would be fair?
O’DONNELL: I don’t think the United States should ever, ever, ever torture other people.
Rosie, who claimed terrorists are mothers and fathers, was concerned about robbing the “humanity” of terrorists.
O’DONNELL: Because you don’t think terrorists, you don’t think terrorists- you think that robs them of their humanity. That name “terrorist” makes them not human any more? They don’t-
While giving the full benefit of the doubt to a known terror leader, Rosie asserted without doubt, and without any hard evidence to prove, that the United States tortured this information out of the al Qaeda leader.
O’DONNELL: But I think this man, for whatever he did or didn’t do, he is not the be-all and end-all of terrorism in America and our government has not found the answer and this one thing –
BEHAR: One thing: He does, he does-
HASSELBECK: But he said he was.
O’DONNELL: After hood on his head and beaten to death.
HASSELBECK: Do you know that a hood was on his head that he was beaten?
O’DONNELL: Oh dear God, Elisabeth.
HASSELBECK: He’s still alive.
O’DONNELL: Why, since March 2003 has he not admitted it until now?

I don’t think that this guy is an innocent, but the problem with torture is that the answers may not be reliable…
In the medieval witch trials they got people to confess that they danced Salsa with the devil and that 1 plus 1 is 3 – with the help of torture.
March 16, 2007 - 03:51 AM on March 16th, 2007
There is absolutely no comparison between the torture of the Middle Ages and modern techniques of interrogation. We hear this sort of thing all the time and it makes no sense.
March 16, 2007 - 06:47 AM on March 16th, 2007
Mattias, did you google to find that non-sense? You really are stupid if you think that coercion is torture. I could claim sifting through your innumerable posts is torture, or listening to Rosie O’Dumbass is torture, and I’d be just as correct ar you are.
March 16, 2007 - 07:22 AM on March 16th, 2007
Is Rosie really that stupid? Doesn’t she realize that Mohammed thinks she is less than human because she’s a Lesbian?

Jason, Rosie really is that stupid. She says she loves this country but will do absolutely NOTHING to defend it or any other way of life.
If the liberals like her succeed and the religion of Islam takes over our country then she would be one of the first to go. Her attitude though is that with a little love and peace they will overlook that small transgression.

2- Does “modern technique of interrogation” mean “modern technique of interrogation by torture” or what?
And if so- how do these techniques look like? I mean, it is one thing to trick somebody to get information out of him and another to make him confess something directly, isn’t it?
March 16, 2007 - 07:45 AM on March 16th, 2007
6- These questions are for Matthias and Matthias only:
1- Did you know about Gitmo? Yes or No?
2- Is gitmo run by the CIA? es or no?
that is 2 very simple questions, it isn;t a trick, all it requires is a yes or a no. I just want to see how you answer it.
March 16, 2007 - 07:48 AM on March 16th, 2007
6, I believe that short of physically maiming a person, waterboarding, shooting a pistol near a prisoner who is cowering and thinks the pistol is aimed ah his head is fair game. Espceially when these prisoners are people who have no country and wear whatever gets them near their target to destroy it.
March 16, 2007 - 07:52 AM on March 16th, 2007
In america your inocent until proven guilty and once proven guilty then the punishment must match the crime:grin:
March 16, 2007 - 08:32 AM on March 16th, 2007
Exactly PCD and don’t forget waterboarding is a helluva lot better than beheading.
March 16, 2007 - 09:31 AM on March 16th, 2007
#6 no Matthias, and fyi at Gitmo they haven’t put even one “detainee” on the rack, burned one at the stake, or drawn and quartered anyone.
But…but…but…there was a report last year….that…a guard MIGHT HAVE KICKED A KORAN!!!!!
March 16, 2007 - 09:33 AM on March 16th, 2007
I think Rosie O’Dumbbell should be sent over to be with the terrorists she so admires and loves. Perhaps they can use her in their next beheading video? (They’ll need a wide-angle lens on the camera for sure…)
March 16, 2007 - 10:04 AM on March 16th, 2007
7- Nice experiment- I wonder what the results will be… But let’s give it a try:
to #1: Ask more precisely. I can’t answer a question with a clear yes or no, that I don’t understand.
to #2: If you refer to the Prison-like installation on Guantanamo (which might be a potential point that you refer to in question #1) the answer would be: I don’t know which authority “runs” the US prison-thing in Guantanamo.
So the point is, that by some “clever” asking style you may get informations out of me- but you will never get my signature on a piece of paper saying “I .. confess that I committed the following crimes: …” That in any case requires something else.
And let’s face the truth: for such a higlevel operative like Sheik Mohammed, the CIA doesn’t really need the interrogation to find out what they’ve found out themselves- they simply needed an assertion of what they knew already, right?
March 16, 2007 - 10:16 AM on March 16th, 2007
Matthias, it was a basic question…did you know about GITMO?
The answer to 2 would be the military runs Gitmo, not the CIA. The CIA is not a part of the military.
Actually, I know you knew about Gitmo, as you have been questioning the legalities of it, for some time.
Rosie stated that KSM was sent to a secret prison run by the CIA where they tortured KSM daily.
Gitmo is neither a secret nor is it run by the CIA…it was no trick and it wasn’t that difficult.

16, Peejz, it has been obvious for some time that Mattias only believes the far left, if not anarchist, propaganda sites.
March 16, 2007 - 10:25 AM on March 16th, 2007
14- “Rosie stated that KSM was sent to a secret prison run by the CIA where they tortured KSM daily.
Gitmo is neither a secret nor is it run by the CIA:it was no trick and it wasn’t that difficult.”
I don’t know where Rosie O’Donnell has her information from, but you do know that your government has other facilities (outside the US) where they imprison terror-suspect and also do interrogations with them, right? And if they are on matter of (US) national security be in danger by foreign terrorist it is quite logical that there are agent from the CIA present at those interrogations.
Besides- what’s the difference (apart from Rosie O’Donnell perhaps telling rubbish) if interogations are done by the military or by some secert service members? Does one side torture with AC-shocks and the other DC-shocks, or what?
March 16, 2007 - 10:30 AM on March 16th, 2007
18- Rosie stated this info as fact, so by your response, you and i agree that she is full of sh!#! Yes I am aware of the CIA prisons, but obviously Rosie can’t differentiate!
March 16, 2007 - 10:31 AM on March 16th, 2007
16- Most of the torture allegations on the Wikipage have been raised by former detainees. Do you really expect them to now say: Well… with a little distance it wasn’t so bad after all.
And actually I don’t understand your and Robert’s excitement on the torture allegation. Havn’t you and other conservatives on this site complained how soft the detainees are treated at Gitmo? Shouldn’t you be glad that “those swines are treated like in a Nazi concentration camp, right as they deserve”?
March 16, 2007 - 10:37 AM on March 16th, 2007
19- I guess the wrong behaviour of single representatives of an opinion does not discredit the opinion itself, does it? How much AL Gore ever exaggerates the fact in the GW debate, it won’t change my personal view of the problems existence… And I guess that you Peejz, don’t want PCD’s horrible manners to be interpreted by others to represent the nature of your conservative appearance, don’t you?

Matthias,
I have one request:
Prove that Khalid Sheik Mohammed was tourtured. What O’Donnel is doing is making blind assertions and assumptions.
That doesn’t cut it at all.
March 16, 2007 - 12:16 PM on March 16th, 2007
23, Ted, usder what definition of torture? Just Clinton’s “what the definition of is is” defense, Mattias could consider actions torture that you wouldn’t call torture ever, like having to wear underwear on your head. Ted Kennedy does this when he’s loaded and partying, but it’s not torture, except maybe having to see him like that.
March 16, 2007 - 02:57 PM on March 16th, 2007
23- It’s right- it is absolute unproven that he was tortured. Except for jerks like Charles Graner, the majority of human rights violating personnel don’t like being filmed when they do what they do.
But as it is quite likely that this guy as the responsible asshole who committed the 9/11 attacks will get executed for what he did- so what’s his motivation to stay a couple of years in the uncomfortable custody of his enemies and then “all of a sudden” confess all his deeds? Especially as former prisoners of Guantanamo alleged torture to happen in there.
I mean how likely is it that one of the few prisoners for whom there is a (in form of this confession) proof that he is guilty has not been tortured, while released (because they are not guilty?) prisoners have been tortured?
March 16, 2007 - 03:24 PM on March 16th, 2007
RE 25:
Re 25 (Matthias)
“It’s right- it is absolute unproven that he was tortured.”
And thus, yours and O’Donnel’s arguement collapses on it’s own weight. You can not make a claim without evuidence and there simply is none.
The fact that prisoner occurances (most of which do NOT legally qualify as tourture) at Gitmo that did not conform to The Geneva Accords is irrelevent. You can not take these single instances and apply rhem to all instances- that is an illogical and emotionally based arguement.
24 (PCD)
Soldiers were convicted of acts related to torture at Gitmo, so we do know it has occured. One person actually died as the direct esult of repeated beatings.
That definately qualified as torture, but let me stress it is the exception and not the rule as matthias and O’Donnel perceives. The men who perpetrated such acts have been brought to justice by the system and this by no means gives any justification to imply that this man was ever tortured.
March 17, 2007 - 01:28 AM on March 17th, 2007
This is all a nice re-direction, but where is the fresh thread about the Plame outing and hearings?
*crickets chirping*
March 17, 2007 - 05:20 AM on March 17th, 2007
26- Yesterday another thought came into my mind:
The association that this guy has been tortured works for the Bush administration because with this assumption everyone thinks that the confession is true… it’s a psychological trick. By taking an action (or giving the impression of it) that gives some flaws to their own image it is easier for their opposition to swallow the offered scenario…
Frankly I must say that if KSM was responsible for all the crap he appears to have done he probably deserved his torture (and more!), but that is the general problem with the principle of torture:
if you torture somebody to get a confession it means that you don’t have any other valid evidence to prove his guilt and this shows the (maybe small but existing) risk that you torture an innocent guy!!!

Your Country will probably be nuked by one of the many enemy Countries your precious Bush has so arrogantly accumulated. Being your next door neighbour to the north is our misfortune. The US is our greatest friend and our worst enemy. I am honestly stumped…how can ANYONE with half a brain still support this administration? Can someone answer? What has he done that garners such admiration? He is evil personified, that’s all I can say, he is the devil incarnate.
March 17, 2007 - 09:36 AM on March 17th, 2007
BettyBee, Kindly try picking up a book or take some history classes. Your comments were utter idiotic drivel. While Bush has made some mistakes, they are not the mistakes that others keep attributing to him. If anything he has not been strong enough in his dealing with various issues including terrorism, illegal immigration, the UN Oil for Food scandal, and the appointing of conservative judges. Had he been more willing to stand up and put his foot down on a number of issues, he’d have a lot more respect in this country. I personally am losing respect for him BECAUSE he’s been letting petty little political hacks get away with the idiotic crap they’ve been pulling. To have the president of Mexico publically chastise him over illegal immigration and border security is utterly unbelievable. Bush should’ve turned to Calderon and told him to shove it up his corrupt backside and ordered the National Guard to actually guard the damn nation. He needs to put his foot down and STOP the illegal activity of the Democrats who are undermining his administration. They have been leaking sensitive information to our enemies, endangering our troops and conducting illegal attempts at diplomacy with our enemies.
March 17, 2007 - 09:49 AM on March 17th, 2007
Somethings I’d like to see Bush do would be:
1. Pardon the two border agents in Texas and give them their old jobs back.
2. Pardon Scooter Libby, that was a travesty anyway
3. Start investigations into ALL of the Corrupt politicians like William “Cold Cash” Jefferson Any lib care to explain how Scooter Libby is charged and convicted for failing to remember what happened two years before, but Jefferson gets a pass for taking $100,000 in a bribe ON TAPE from an FBI Confidential Informant?
4. Secure the border. Put a SERIOUS dent in the flow of illegal contraband including people into this country. Stopping it is impossible, but even reducing the flow by 50% is better than we have now.
5. Start investigating and PROSECUTING individuals who actually do leak classified information to the press. It’s against the law, why aren’t we enforcing the law?
