Somethings I’d like to see Bush do would be:

1. Pardon the two border agents in Texas and give them their old jobs back.
2. Pardon Scooter Libby, that was a travesty anyway
3. Start investigations into ALL of the Corrupt politicians like William “Cold Cash” Jefferson Any lib care to explain how Scooter Libby is charged and convicted for failing to remember what happened two years before, but Jefferson gets a pass for taking $100,000 in a bribe ON TAPE from an FBI Confidential Informant?
4. Secure the border. Put a SERIOUS dent in the flow of illegal contraband including people into this country. Stopping it is impossible, but even reducing the flow by 50% is better than we have now.
5. Start investigating and PROSECUTING individuals who actually do leak classified information to the press. It’s against the law, why aren’t we enforcing the law?

BettyBee, Kindly try picking up a book or take some history classes. Your comments were utter idiotic drivel. While Bush has made some mistakes, they are not the mistakes that others keep attributing to him. If anything he has not been strong enough in his dealing with various issues including terrorism, illegal immigration, the UN Oil for Food scandal, and the appointing of conservative judges. Had he been more willing to stand up and put his foot down on a number of issues, he’d have a lot more respect in this country. I personally am losing respect for him BECAUSE he’s been letting petty little political hacks get away with the idiotic crap they’ve been pulling. To have the president of Mexico publically chastise him over illegal immigration and border security is utterly unbelievable. Bush should’ve turned to Calderon and told him to shove it up his corrupt backside and ordered the National Guard to actually guard the damn nation. He needs to put his foot down and STOP the illegal activity of the Democrats who are undermining his administration. They have been leaking sensitive information to our enemies, endangering our troops and conducting illegal attempts at diplomacy with our enemies.

26- Yesterday another thought came into my mind:
The association that this guy has been tortured works for the Bush administration because with this assumption everyone thinks that the confession is true… it’s a psychological trick. By taking an action (or giving the impression of it) that gives some flaws to their own image it is easier for their opposition to swallow the offered scenario…

Frankly I must say that if KSM was responsible for all the crap he appears to have done he probably deserved his torture (and more!), but that is the general problem with the principle of torture:
if you torture somebody to get a confession it means that you don’t have any other valid evidence to prove his guilt and this shows the (maybe small but existing) risk that you torture an innocent guy!!!

And thus, yours and O’Donnel’s arguement collapses on it’s own weight. You can not make a claim without evuidence and there simply is none.

The fact that prisoner occurances (most of which do NOT legally qualify as tourture) at Gitmo that did not conform to The Geneva Accords is irrelevent. You can not take these single instances and apply rhem to all instances- that is an illogical and emotionally based arguement.

Soldiers were convicted of acts related to torture at Gitmo, so we do know it has occured. One person actually died as the direct esult of repeated beatings.

That definately qualified as torture, but let me stress it is the exception and not the rule as matthias and O’Donnel perceives. The men who perpetrated such acts have been brought to justice by the system and this by no means gives any justification to imply that this man was ever tortured.

23- It’s right- it is absolute unproven that he was tortured. Except for jerks like Charles Graner, the majority of human rights violating personnel don’t like being filmed when they do what they do.

But as it is quite likely that this guy as the responsible asshole who committed the 9/11 attacks will get executed for what he did- so what’s his motivation to stay a couple of years in the uncomfortable custody of his enemies and then “all of a sudden” confess all his deeds? Especially as former prisoners of Guantanamo alleged torture to happen in there.
I mean how likely is it that one of the few prisoners for whom there is a (in form of this confession) proof that he is guilty has not been tortured, while released (because they are not guilty?) prisoners have been tortured?

23, Ted, usder what definition of torture? Just Clinton’s “what the definition of is is” defense, Mattias could consider actions torture that you wouldn’t call torture ever, like having to wear underwear on your head. Ted Kennedy does this when he’s loaded and partying, but it’s not torture, except maybe having to see him like that.
