AP said that this is from Cpl Chris Mason, a soldier who was killed in Iraq in November, 2006. His father posted this video today.

Very sad. Sounds though like we need to do a better job at educating our children cause he seems sorta not.
March 30, 2007 - 11:53 PM on March 30th, 2007
2.
Why would you attempt to marginalize this man and his opinions by taking a blind cheap shot regarding his education, which you have no idea about?
Honestly that’s not just a low blow. It is something that is commonly found on your average playground. Kids often ridicule others kids in order to compensate for their own short comings.
I think this is an obvious case.

1- What exactly was wrong with the way he sounded? You didn’t like this thick Texas drawl or something?
The man was speaking from his heart and using plain English. Is he supposed to sound like a “politician” and talk out of both sides of his mouth before you will show him an ounce of respect?
He’s an average guy who was doing a very hard and difficult job and he died for it and ALL you can think to say is basically he sounded dumb.
You don’t get it and you never will and to me THAT IS SAD.
March 31, 2007 - 09:21 AM on March 31st, 2007
Well, TT seeing as the word is BECAUSE not cause and the phrase is SORT OF not sorta, perhaps you’re the one who needs to go back to school. The really sad part of the whole situation is that the man you just ridiculed was willing to die to protect your right to be a pathetic moron. If you don’t believe that keeping the radical Islamic movement at bay protects your freedoms, how do you explain rioting over cartoons? Or do you feel that killing people and destroying billions of dollars worth of property over a cartoon you find offensive is an acceptable form of religious expression?
April 1, 2007 - 08:37 AM on April 1st, 2007
Just because you’re willing to die for something doesn’t make it true.
April 1, 2007 - 12:28 PM on April 1st, 2007
AKD, and what do you know precisely about this or being willing to die for anything?
April 1, 2007 - 04:11 PM on April 1st, 2007
It isn’t his volunteering that makes it true. It’s true on its own.
April 2, 2007 - 08:03 AM on April 2nd, 2007
Whoa… does “Cpl” stand for Corporal? In that case America must really be the land of the free!! You wouldn’t allow a Corporal in any other country to speak in the public about political issues… especially not if they came from areas like Texas!
I’m sorry for the fella that he is no longer, but the film itself reminds me a little bit of this:

9, Mattias, I wouldn’t talk too loud if I were you. Your country let a Corporal leed you into WW2.
April 2, 2007 - 08:09 AM on April 2nd, 2007
10- Yeah, that’s why none of these idiots read his book “Mein Kampf” (,where he announced all his sick nonsense in advance)!
That’s what happens if you let idiots lead your country- but what am I telling you..

Re 7:
Just because you’re willing to die for something doesn’t make it true.
A confusing statement. Do you mean “justified”? In either case, the man was willing to die for his country. It is not only noble, but the freedoms granted for such sacrifices for the rest of us justifies it.
Seems simple to me.
Re 9:
“In that case America must really be the land of the free!! “
It is truly the land of the free. For example, if someone wishes to diplay a swastika they are allowed to do so…

12- “It is truly the land of the free. For example, if someone wishes to diplay a swastika they are allowed to do so…”
Unless you belong to some certain indian cult who understand the swastika in a non-political sense, are you proud of being allowed to use the symbol which is associated with the murder of 6 million people?
That’s not freedom- that’s ignorant & respectless!
April 2, 2007 - 01:00 PM on April 2nd, 2007
11, Mattias, you are an idiot that we are telling you that you are an idiot.

“Unless you belong to some certain indian cult who understand the swastika in a non-political sense, are you proud of being allowed to use the symbol which is associated with the murder of 6 million people?”
Yes, I am proud of the fact that I have the freedom to do so if I wish. Would I choose to excercise that freedom? Of course not. However, that freedom is there- my right to free speech is not impuned.
“That’s not freedom- that’s ignorant & respectless!”
I now see why you don’t understand what freedom truely is- you’ve been conditioned by your governement.
Like it or not, every person on the planet should have the freedom to be ignorant and respectless with their expresion as long as it does not interfere with the inalienable rights of others.

15. “Yes, I am proud of the fact that I have the freedom to do so if I wish. Would I choose to excercise that freedom? Of course not. However, that freedom is there- my right to free speech is not impuned.”
So that is interesting. With all that freedom, I wonder that for US immigration/visa forms visitors of your country have to answer silly questions like “Have your ever been a member of the communist party?”, “Do you plan a terror assault?”, etc. …looks like the freedom in your country only exists for Americans. Or to quote G.Orwell:“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal”
With such an attitude I really wonder why people on this page get upset if somebody compares your government to Hitler. Aren’t you proud of people exercising their freedom of speech in such a radical way???
“Like it or not, every person on the planet should have the freedom to be ignorant and respectless with their expresion as long as it does not interfere with the inalienable rights of others…” …or the basic beliefs of the people of Texas, the pope and DC comic’s punisher!

“So that is interesting. With all that freedom, I wonder that for US immigration/visa forms visitors of your country have to answer silly questions like “Have your ever been a member of the communist party?”,
That question is no longer on the immigration form.
“Do you plan a terror assault?”, etc. …looks like the freedom in your country only exists for Americans.”
That is correct- our freedoms and laws only apply to Americans. Our freedoms are granted by The Constitution. We have no right to go to Germany and enforce our laws upon you, just like you have no right to enforce your laws upon us. It is called sovereignty.
However, there is a very valid reason for those questions Matthias, although I seriously doubt if you kow what they are.
When a legal immigrant is allowed in the country and is applying to be a naturalized citizen, if they commit an act (such as terrorism) upon the nation we can not charge them with treason. They aren’t a citizen.
However, we now have grounds to deport them.

17- You are slowly getting away, from this “I am proud, to be a Nazi in America, if I like to”-attitude…
Confess- that was not one of your smartest statement, was it…?

Re 18:
“Confess- that was not one of your smartest statement, was it…?”
I said what I said, and I am proud and stand firmly by everything I said. I am proud to have the freedom to be able to display a swastika if I wish.
I pity you that you don’t have the same kind of freedom.
That sai- I see that you aren’t addressing the points I made, instead make a feeble attempt at deflection.
C’mon mnatthias- are you afraid to discuss this with me? Or have you finally grasped the futility of the positions you’ve taken?
And speaking of confessions: how about what you said about this soldier? Are you going to back away from it and realize your mistake, or are you going to embrace what you said furthering your display of disrespect for this soldier?
You haven’t even addressed that!

I think, I’ve answered this in the other thread: Of course I still say that Cpl. Chris Mason acts like an idiot in this video and that his father does not do his dead son a favor by displaying it to others! Probably you see it differently, but acting like an idiot during your lifetime and then getting killed is not the straight way to become a saint or a Nobel Prize winner! There is nothing I have to excuse for!
But you are proud to live in a country where you are “free” to carry the symbol under which 6 million jews were executed and a two-digit number of people were slaughtered in a war. And you wanna tell me something about morale?!
April 2, 2007 - 05:12 PM on April 2nd, 2007
“I think, I’ve answered this in the other thread: Of course I still say that Cpl. Chris Mason acts like an idiot in this video…”
Of course you have nothing to substantiate this. but let’s review, shall we?
You say he is an idiot initially, and here is why:
(From post 9)
1) “You wouldn’t allow a Corporal in any other country to speak in the public about political issues… especially not if they came from areas like Texas!”
I see you carry on the Nazi party of bigotry an elitism. After all, folks from Texas are idiots (like the Jews) and what you consider to be lower class indivuduals should have no right to speak (like this corporal.
(From Post 11)
2) “Unless you belong to some certain indian cult who understand the swastika in a non-political sense, are you proud of being allowed to use the symbol which is associated with the murder of 6 million people?”
Governement servitude that allows basic freedoms to be taken away (such as freedom of speech and expression) is better than having said freedoms.
No wonder the Nazi’s rose to power. You would make a good Brownshirt.
(Regarding Post #16)
No need to quote anything here. I so thouroughly dismatled your arguement in post #17, you didn’t bother to respond. Instead, you posted in post #18 a lame ad hominem attack “You are slowly getting away, from this “I am proud, to be a Nazi in America, if I like to”-attitude…Confess- that was not one of your smartest statement, was it…?” to which I reponded in the following statemet:
“I said what I said, and I am proud and stand firmly by everything I said. I am proud to have the freedom to be able to display a swastika if I wish.
I pity you that you don’t have the same kind of freedom.”
So, now, I directly challenge you to substantiate this man’s lack of imteelince. List form would be great, as it makes it more simple to dismantle your elitist Nazi-esque attitude.
One last thing:
Re 20:
But you are proud to live in a country where you are “free” to carry the symbol under which 6 million jews were executed and a two-digit number of people were slaughtered in a war.
Yes- I am. Very proud.
And you wanna tell me something about morale?!
Without hesitiation.
But in retrospect ff you look at the posts thus far you are the one trying to impose your morales on others.
Just LIKE the Nazis.

…
2) “Unless you belong to some certain indian cult who understand the swastika in a non-political sense, are you proud of being allowed to use the symbol which is associated with the murder of 6 million people?” …You would make a good Brownshirt.”
That statement is what makes you an idiot. Cpl Gumby is not the one to blame for this rubbish…
April 3, 2007 - 05:40 AM on April 3rd, 2007
Re 22:
Perhaps you should try reposting that, as you are misquoting me and mixing you quotes with mine. I never said this: “Unless you belong to some cerrtain indian cult who understand the swastika in a non-political sense, are you proud of being allowed to use the symbol which is associated with the murder of 6 million people?”.
I did say that you would make a good brownshirt because you believe governement servitude that allows basic freedoms to be taken away (such as freedom of speech and expression) is better than having said freedoms.
You would also make a good brownshirt due to point #1 in post #21. You do not believe a corporal should have the right of freedom of speech, especially one who comes from Texas. These are your words, ver batim: “You wouldn’t allow a Corporal in any other country to speak in the public about political issues… especially not if they came from areas like Texas!”
I also never asserted what you are attempting to implpy. You are taking snipets of iunrelated quotes and pasting them together in an attempt to misrepresent what I’ve said.
As far as this quiote from you:
“Cpl Gumby is not the one to blame for this rubbish… “
Well, I never even remotely implied that he was.
Know right now Matthais that I will confront you at all times when you use such underhanded tactics. I know that you will not respond to the points I’ve made but that is of little consequence for that speaks volumes in and of itself.
April 3, 2007 - 06:23 AM on April 3rd, 2007
23- “I never said this: “Unless you belong…” “
Sorry guy, it’s not my fault that there is no “more italic” to display that I quote you quoting me…
And that you have a mental problem to understand that is neither my problem…
” “Cpl Gumby is not the one to blame for this rubbish… “
Well, I never even remotely implied that he was.”
Well, if you create a list starting with “You say he is an idiot initially, and here is why:”, I have to assume that everything that all following, refers to why I think Cpl. Gumby is an idiot… although then seeing an item on this sawstika-discussion that has nothing to do with the Cpl!
*sigh*… we don’t really, want to have a discussion right now on the “what I said, was ..”-level, do we?

re 24:
“Sorry guy, it’s not my fault that there is no “more italic” to display that I quote you quoting me…”
No- it is your problem to misquote me. Designate the person who you are quoting, if need be. However, do not slander me.
” I have to assume that everything that all following, refers to why I think Cpl. Gumby is an idiot… although then seeing an item on this sawstika-discussion that has nothing to do with the Cpl!”
Thed swastika issue has everything to do with it, Matthias. You either do not comprehend why, or are just to narrow minded to accept why. Either way, not my problem, but yours.
“*sigh*… we don’t really, want to have a discussion right now on the “what I said, was ..”-level, do we?
Yes- I have no issues with doing that. If you continue to misquote my and paste snippets of quotes together in order to change their meanings,I will continue to do so to point out your slander.
April 3, 2007 - 07:18 AM on April 3rd, 2007
25- “No- it is your problem to misquote me.”
This really sucks and I won’t continue argueing about misunderstandings and getting away from the original topic for the simple purpose of arguing. But simply to make you happy I will respond here a final time to your response on this question:
Where did I misquote you?
And to make sure we talk about the same thing please add the number of the post…
April 3, 2007 - 07:24 AM on April 3rd, 2007
Re 26:
“Where did I misquote you?”
Refer to post #23- I plainly point out your slander there.
April 3, 2007 - 07:46 AM on April 3rd, 2007
27- okay… i try to do it slowly- one step after the other (although it is a complete waste of time!):
->In post#21 you create a list of (assuming) my statements which may justify my statement that Mason is an idiot
->The list in #21 you quote in 2) a statement of me (from #13) which refers to this swastika-discussion (which from my POV has nothing to do with Mason)
->As a result I say in #22, that I think that this statement has nothing to do with Mason and to illustrate this I quote/display your list from #21 which contains both text from you AND the quote of me (from #13)
Comprende?
