Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

The Wind Farm In Teddy’s Backyard Is Inching Closer To Approval

By: Pam On: Apr/2/07 - 13 Comments

According to the NYT’s,  “Cape Wind would involve 130 wind turbines in a 25-square-mile area in Nantucket Sound, and would provide as much as 79 percent of the electricity for the cape, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.”

Kennedy is said to be angry and is joined by Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound, in opposing the project:

But the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound issued a statement calling the decision “wholly unacceptable” and saying it “reflects the current administration’s willingness to sacrifice Nantucket Sound to advance its renewable energy agenda” and “has opened the door to gross developer exploitation of an irreplaceable natural resource.”

The alliance also said the state’s report performed a “substandard review” of alternative sites for the wind turbines, which would extend up to 440 feet above sea level.

Let me translate that for you: NOT IN OUR BACKYARD!

Understandably, Kerry has no position on the subject.  “What (the Kerrys) know about substantive environmental policy probably can be contained in the dirt under your fingernail.”

Well, I’m not certain of Senator Kennedy’s position (sorry, ‘humanevents.com) doesn’t rank high for me on unbiased news), but I will say Mr. Kennedy and his entire family of drunken linage needs to retire from politics because I have no use for political dynasties, Bush, Clinton, or otherwise.

I remember 20 something years ago in my youth learning about ‘wind farms’ and how this was clean and renewable energy. I thought these of turbine farms were beautiful.

1- There are other sources to substantiate that about the Kennedys, but nevertheless, it seems to be a good thing. It looks like we are losing out in the Great lakes Region.

I signed up with the Cape Winds group several years ago and am on the mailing list, make small contributions and the like. I’m no raving environmentalist, but as a frequent Cape visitor, I know this project has broad support.

Considering The Swimmer opposes it, I couldn’t sign up fast enough.

“…those wind turbines are bird killers”

Near me out by the Altamont Pass wind farm east of Oakland, they are replacing the older, smaller blades with larger, slower moving ones that are far less “dangerous” to birds.

There’s also another wind farm way east of LA out in the desert…

They’re pretty neat to see as you drive by. Huge. Seems to go on for miles.

Well yes, as Rocky #4 pointed out, all the restrictions, rules, regulations the Left dreams up are for other people, not for them! They are for the unwashed masses, not the uber intellectual elitist leftists.

There is a huge windfarm near Morongo. I’ve passed through it a few times on the rare occasions when I have had to go to the granola state on business. I think the Greenies may be right, we should become more like Europe. France gets over half of their power from Nuclear energy and that works for me. Here’s proof that the greenies are stupid. They’re complaining about the Yucca mountain nuclear disposal site not being secure because they’re afraid that water will seep into the facility and over time leech radioactive material into the groundwater. That would seem to be a valid concern until the expected temperatures inside the facility will reach over 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Why is that important? Because with internal temps topping 400 degrees, water will vaporize before ever reaching any of the stainless steel storage containers. Water does evaporate/boil at 212 degrees last I checked, so how will it be able to dissolve radioactive materials and leech them into the grounds when it’ll never be able to get to the waste in a liquid form?
