And Here’s A Picture Of Nancy Pelosi Eating Crow UPDATE: WaPo Slams Her

Pratfall in Damascus.

“We came in friendship, hope, and determined that the road to Damascus is a road to peace,” Ms. Pelosi grandly declared.

Never mind that that statement is ludicrous: As any diplomat with knowledge of the region could have told Ms. Pelosi, Mr. Assad is a corrupt thug whose overriding priority at the moment is not peace with Israel but heading off U.N. charges that he orchestrated the murder of former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri. The really striking development here is the attempt by a Democratic congressional leader to substitute her own foreign policy for that of a sitting Republican president. Two weeks ago Ms. Pelosi rammed legislation through the House of Representatives that would strip Mr. Bush of his authority as commander in chief to manage troop movements in Iraq. Now she is attempting to introduce a new Middle East policy that directly conflicts with that of the president. We have found much to criticize in Mr. Bush’s military strategy and regional diplomacy. But Ms. Pelosi’s attempt to establish a shadow presidency is not only counterproductive, it is foolish.

OUCH!

According to the statement, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert emphasized in his meeting with Pelosi on Sunday that “although Israel is interested in peace with Syria, that country continues to be part of the Axis of Evil and a force that encourages terror in the entire Middle East.”

  • Pelosi tells Assad: Israel ready to talk Olmert, the statement clarified, told Pelosi that Syria’s sincerity about a genuine peace with Israel would be judged by its willingness to “cease its support of terror, cease its sponsoring of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad organizations, refrain from providing weapons to Hizbullah and bringing about the destabilizing of Lebanon, cease its support of terror in Iraq, and relinquish the strategic ties it is building with the extremist regime in Iran.”The statement said Olmert had not communicated to Pelosi any change in Israeli policy on Damascus.

    1. Tofu, care to retract your praise of Pelosi on the other thread? She was way out of line, made a complete fool of herself, and the only value of this whole thing is propaganda value for the enemy.
Too bad you couldn’t see it coming from the start.

    2. Funny isnt it wehn these liberals end up in their own mess and not one word from the leftists news media but thats not surpising to us

    3. San Francisco Liberal

Nancy did nothing wrong, that’s why you’re not hearing much more about this.

This is a baseless attempt to smear her, and nothing more.

She correctly conveyed the message to Syria from Israel, that they must end their support of militant islamic organizations and renounce terrorism – FIRST – to persue peace with Israel.

Members of the State Department was there at her meetings, notes were taken…how come there isn’t anything from the State Department or the White House on this?

Because they know she said nothing “wrong” or incorrectly.

Watch this “scandal” die in a day or two.

    4. San Francisco Liberal

Where are the State Department notes/transcipts from the meetings showing Speaker Pelosi misspeaking Israels position?

      Hmmmm???

    5. 4-There are no State Department notes because the State Department had nothing to do with her trip and they were not there…hmmmm, watch it not go away!

    6. 3- “Nancy did nothing wrong, that’s why you’re not hearing much more about this.

Have you been camping again or are they just not giving it air time in her district? It is all over the media!

    7. Peejz…they are probably not giving it any air time in San Francisco. I read on comcast news that her visit actually helped Bush’s position. It would I guess but the bigger issue for me is the damage she has caused with our image in the world. America should remain strong and not look weak under any circumstances.

    8. 7- I bet he is in some fantastic park somewhere…brat!

But I think that many of the left pulling media are a bit stunned by her blunder!

Let’s not forget the idiot Republicans that went with her:mad:

    9. You know something that struck me? I saw Ms. Pelosi wear the scarf so as not to offend the delicate sensibilities of middle eastern men but I don’t believe Dr. Condoleeza Rice has ever worn one. Oh my

    10. 7. Cute. He mentioned once how he likes to explore caves and I know N. Ca has alot of those.

As for those republicans, it is a shame they went along with this scam but I truly hope there are enough sensible people on both sides of the aisle that see through her dangerous game.

    11. The Democrites want investigations so much…why isn’t this trip being investigated for possible violation of the law? Why aren’t charges being made for Nancy and her entourage? Why are they above the law, yet silly non-issues like firing 8 AGs are such a big deal?

btw Nancy looked smashing in that head scarf! Think how she’d look in a Burqua! The Left could really get used to submitting to Sharia Law, I can see that now.

    12. 11- Because the US public voted in Dems because they had no confidence in the Republicans and the current administration (what’s Bush’s approval rating at?).

You want to go after Nancy with some criminal charges. Then have your Bush bobble-head congressmen go for it, and see the republican party relegated to nothing for the next couple decades.

You are in the minority now, Robert. Feels kind powerless, eh? There’s a new congress in town! ;)

    13. I wouldn’t get too uppity yet TT. The people did not vote the dems in to submit, retreat and surrender the war on terror. When the next election rolls around I believe you will once again see a republican victory. Democrats are proving themselves over and over again and Americans as a whole are NOT going to submit to slavery and servitude. Negotiating with terrorists is not an option.

We could give them San Francisco though. That would be quite a showdown.

    14. 13- BB, more and more Americans are seeing that what we are doing in Iraq is not ‘war’, it is ‘occupation’. The “(Global) War on Terror” as it is so named, isn’t Iraq and it really isn’t a war either. “War on Terror” is a marketing slogan, not actual ‘war’. The Iraq Occupation has our military so bogged down and stretched so thin that now we are even sending reservists for second tours?! And all the while, no shared sacrifice by the American public at large. Iraq isn’t war, it’s empire building.

Wanna remind me how massive that new US embassy is they are building in Iraq?

Empire building. The US fully intends to have a huge footprint in the operations of that country for a very long time.

“You know something that struck me? I saw Ms. Pelosi wear the scarf so as not to offend the delicate sensibilities of middle eastern men but I don’t believe Dr. Condoleeza Rice has ever worn one”

Both Dr. Rice and First lady Laura Bush have worn headscarfs on trips to middle east, espeacially if they enter a place of worship.

“He mentioned once how he likes to explore caves and I know N. Ca has alot of those.”

I am a caving fanatic. I love to crawl around deep underground in small holes in the rock and get all muddy. I used to do a lot of it when I lived in Michigan and could drive to Kentucky for weekend trips. Out here in CA, it’s a bit further and I don’t get underground as much as I should. Now, it’s mostly hiking and camping and general raod tripping.

      ——————————————–

“Why aren’t charges being made for Nancy and her entourage?”

LOL…like I said on a different post Robert, because it’s a JOKE of an accusation.

Like TT said, we’re in charge now. Bush has weakened his position so much and is so unpopular, that the Congressional Dems can pretty much walk all over him.

That’s what happens to a president, and a political party that has FAILED.

      ——————————————

“When the next election rolls around I believe you will once again see a republican victory.”

You are absolutly DREAMING. What with the Iraq War, and the pathetic field of Republican presidential candiates, and more republicans than democrats being up for re-election in 08…your team will be lucky if it doesn’t fall to pieces in the next election.

It’ll be FAR worse than 06 was for you guys.

      Watch.

    16. Oh did anyone mention that Bush’s approval numbers outside of the beltway and the left coast have gone up? They’re now about 2 1/2 times as high as Congress’ approval ratings. Personally, I’m sick and tired of hearing about thses idiotic approval rating polls. Leadership isn’t about approval ratings, it’s about doing what’s RIGHT whether the majority of people like it or not.

As for polls, to quote Mark Twain, ” There are three kinds of lies… Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics.” I had a housemate in college whose statistics textbook was entitled “How to Lie With Statistics”.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that if you skew the questions adequately, and ask them in certain geographic locations, you are going to get certain results. You then take your skewed results and anaylze them as saying something completely differently than what the respondent thought they were saying. An example would be to go to Fayetteville, NC (home of the 82nd Airborne, Delta Force, the JFK Special Warfare Center, and at least one Special Forces Group) and ask someone on the street if they want the troops to come home. OF COURSE THEY DO. They want to be with their friends and family members, BUT they don’t necessarily want them to come home before the job is done because they KNOW that if we don’t finish the job NOW, we’ll have to go back and finish it later with a MUCH greater loss of life. Is it accurate to say that they want the troops home? Yes. Is it accurate to declare that they think the war in Iraq is a failure and that the troops need to be brought home NOW? NO. How do you think such a poll would be portrayed on the nightly news?

    17. SFL…into a place of worship shows a sign of respect and deference to their religious beliefs. Dr. Rice doesn’t wear one generally while working in conference with their ME men.

Hats off to caving. I’m much too claustrophobic for that. Give me an open road and touring Schwinn and I’m happy

    18. 16 FAO I believe the Democrites are misinterpreting the mood of the American people. They are combining their election victory with polls showing dissatisfaction with Bush and the war and assuming the American people are giving the Democrites a mandate for cut and run defeat.

I believe the majority of the American people are frustrated with the war, with Iraq, but they do want to win. They want to change direction. Maybe they want to change to do what it takes to win (less PC).

But the American people do not want defeat.

    19. Speaking for myself Robert when I heard that the rules of engagement were such that they really couldn’t fire and the perfect example being the British soldiers I was horrified. Let them get the job done. After all terrorists have no problem blowing up their women and children so why should we be so strict. And I’m not implying we blow up women and children only following more stringent rules of engagement.

    20. BonBon I agree 100% and I would assert that is what the majority of Americans want. That is part of the change of course they want. The majority of Americans want to win.

They do not want disgrace, defeat, and the inevitable consequence which will be just more war.

The Democrites in their stupidity and arrogance have misread things. They think they have a mandate to pursue their insame course.
