Andrew McCarthy wrote this piece for NRO, discussing the talk about charging the Speaker with a Logan Act violation and the foolishness of it. It is rather lengthly, but a tremendous read!
Speaker Pelosi should, of course, be rebuked for offending a bedrock separation-of-powers principle. But for the administration, the politics of her trip couldn’t be better. The Syrian regime is in the midst of executing a murderous coup to keep its hooks in Lebanon while abetting the terrorists who kill Americans and Israelis. The Speaker’s ham-handed diplomatic foray is proof positive of the folly of negotiating with such thugs. In addition, as Pelosi spoke preposterously of the Assad regime’s openness to peace, and had to be corrected on the international stage after misrepresenting Israel’s position, she confirmed the perception of many Americans that the Left is not up to the task of safeguarding our national security.
That she also violated the Logan Act is an excellent rhetorical point. But it would make for an incredibly foolish indictment. Why turn the page from a worthy national-security debate over the right strategy for dealing with state sponsors of terrorism?
The president can not only win that debate. He can use this opportunity to illustrate how damaging the criminalization of politics is in a democracy. He can stress that policy is something the Framers committed to the good judgment of an informed citizenry, not to the courts. And he can trenchantly separate himself from his knee-jerk “let’s appoint a prosecutor” critics by pointedly explaining that he trusts the American people, not the judicial system, to decide such matters as whether they really want détente Pelosi-style.
Andrew is correct. The powers that be within the Democratic party, were more interested in fighting The United States and The POTUS, than the actual goal of defeating the real target, terrorists.Â

The powers that be within the Democratic party, were more interested in fighting The United States and The POTUS, than the actual goal of defeating the real target, terrorists.
That’s exactly why she should be charged. No investigation is required.
She won’t be charged though. Setting the Logan act aside, Speaker Pelosi at the very least deserves censure. She has forsworn her oath of office and she has usurped power granted in the Constitution only to the President.
She doesn’t deserve to hold office.
Be encouraged and keep on blogging!

#1 The Democrites are far more interested in stupid contrived so-called scandals than in obvious transgressions that have real implications for U.S. foreign policy.
I think she sets a very good example of why we can’t trust the dems to fight terror. It’s also important to remember the dems don’t even want to refer to the war on terror as the war on terror. It’s something far less threatening in their mind.
Forget the Logan Act. I think that what we should do is pull out these events come campaign time and make sure the public is aware of the candidates and their parties positions.
Oh I agree we should never forget these incidents and we should especially make sure that they are remembered come election time.
As for prosecuting, impeaching, ejecting, or even censuring Nancy Pelosi, while I’d love to see it happen, I am fully aware that it probably never will. And that’s a shame.
Unless there are serious personal consequences the Democrats and the left will continue to do their utmost to undermine any non-Democratic administration’s policies and efforts by criminal means.
Yes they should be debated. Yes they should pay the price at the polling booth. But when their behavior crosses the line into the clearly criminal, they should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. To do otherwise merely encourages them to do it more.
Perri, personal consequences are not something the dems get in regular doses. When they do they blame it on republican revenge. Speaking for myself when I see the dems negotiate, appease and otherwise kiss up to terrorists and terror sponsoring nations I am so sickened and the fear of dread works it’s way through my soul. I sat and watched in the 90′s naively thinking our government was protecting us until 9/11. Needless to say I’ve been vigilant since in trying to understand their mindset.
Bottom line is appeasement doesn’t work and Ms. Pelosi should be called to answer for her abhorent behavior in a form more fitting to the crime than simple embarassment.
Wouldn’t it be refreshing to see the Dems actually be as concerned about terrorists who actually attack and kill American citizens as they are about “hate” groups? I guess calling someone a bigoted remark is far more hateful than actually killing them for their religion or ethnicity. Wouldn’t it be nice if they were as concerned with going after the Islamofascists as they were the Branch Davidians? Or if they had shown half as much concern about the activities of Al Quaeda as they did the white supremacists/separatists during the 90s? Especially considering they had KKK members in their leadership? Perhaps the reason that they are so anxious to get the terrorists out of Gitmo is because they know that Byrd is getting old and they’ll need someone of similar character to replace him. With the United Mine Workers of America strangle hold on the illiterate electorate of WV, Khalid Sheik Mohammed would be a shoe in.
“So what do you think about Iran and the terrorists not practicing the Geneva Conventions on those British soldiers and others in Iraq?” “Well, if WE were not torturing their people then maybe they wouldn’t do the same.”
That was a verbatim conversation with a liberal. For me that about says it all.
BonBon that’s why I say Liberalism is a form of mental illness. How else to explain why they can come up with such things?
Yea, and to think if we had been nicer to OBL he wouldn’t have orchestrated 9/11. Oh wait, we WERE nice to OBL and he hated us anyway. So much for that.
BonBon,
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-CA (Newport Beach) net OBL in Afghanistan during the Russian occupation. He was told not to say anything or OBL would kill him because OBL hated America then even when he was desperate for US arms to kill Russians with. Boneheaded Liberals never learn from history.
I didn’t realize that about the representative although I knew our government had helped the mujahedeen fight Russian in Afghanistan. This bit of history is just one of the reasons why I feel terrorism is so dangerous. Liberals should take heed.
That’s why it’s so astonishing that now people like Pelosi are willing to look like fools and suck up to the enemy. They just don’t get it.
