Keep in mind that Sheryl Crow proposes a one square of toilet paper-per-sitting quota to offset deforestation, so we know what she is full of. Read the version that Crow and David reported at the Huffington Post:
In his attempt to dismiss us, Mr. Rove turned to head toward his table, but as soon as he did so, Sheryl reached out to touch his arm. Karl swung around and spat, “Don’t touch me.” How hardened and removed from reality must a person be to refuse to be touched by Sheryl Crow? Unphased, Sheryl abruptly responded, “You can’t speak to us like that, you work for us.” Karl then quipped, “I don’t work for you, I work for the American people.” To which Sheryl promptly reminded him, “We are the American people.”
At that point Mr. Rove apparently decided he had had enough. Like a groundhog fearful of his own shadow, he scurried to his table in an attempt to hibernate for another year from his responsibility to address global warming. Drama aside, you would expect as an American citizen to be able to engage in a civil discussion with a public official. Instead, Mr. Rove was dismissive, condescending, and quite frankly a bully.
Bully? Who grabbed whom? And guess what ladies, the American people don’t get to get that close to any politician, let alone walk up to them at a dinner…
Noel Sheppard offers these various media versions of the event:
As reported by Editor & Publisher Sunday
What was Rove’s take? Well, the Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz reported the following on CNN’s “Reliable Sources” Sunday:
But it was Rove who felt put upon by Crow, telling the Washington Post, “She came over to insult me, and she succeeded.”
Update: The Associated Press is now reporting
Here is the Washington Post piece on this issue:
Global warming was the talking point last night at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner when singer Sheryl Crow and “Inconvenient Truth” producer Laurie David walked over to Table 92 at the Hilton Washington to chat with Karl Rove — and the resulting exchange was suitably heated.
And, maybe most important from the Post piece (emphasis added):
News of the dust-up filtered quickly through the room. Some witnesses said David was very aggressive with Rove; a shaken Crow later said that Rove was “combative and unresponsive.”
How can you be combative and unresponsive? Isn’t the fact that he was alledged to by combative a response?
Is this what Michelle had in mind when she wrote: Lifestyles of the rich and eco-sanctimonious
Others Blogging:

My definition of liberal is that they love to tax the working poor and middle class and equally love to hand out money to the people who don’t feel like working. They live in a world of wealth and hypocrisy whereby they don’t want the working poor and middle class to get ahead. If that were to happen who would be left to build their fine homes, 100 foot yachts and make their designer threads?
Oh and one more thing Jane from 35. They don’t believe anything will ever interrupt their utopian ideology. Heaven forbid we ever find ourselves fighting to stay alive let alone live free.
Speaking on the one-square of TP toilet visit, Rosie on TheView this morning held up her hands to emphasis how small one square of TP is and said something like “One square???? HELLO… have you seen the size of my ass????!”
40-“Liberals in this country do not favor freedom, but work for enslavement of the people to the government.”
…while conservatives work for enslavement of the people by corporations and religion.
TT…44. now that’s funny!
Hey, at least Rosie has a sense of humor. I’ll give anyone credit for that.
Hi Robert
That was good. You know once upon a time I actually did like Rosie. Saw her in The Flintstone movie, A League of Their Own, and Sleepless in Seattle. When she wants to be funny she certainly can be. Too bad her views are so, left
Hi BonBon! How is the weather in your locale? Global Warming still burning up the MidWest and East?
You know, it just occurred to me, I missed it at first, but now I see it! I have been laughing at Cheryl Crowe and her one-square TP limit proposal so hard that I failed to see the business opportunity!!! Toilet Paper Offsets!!! Yes!!!
Let’s face it, some people need to use more than one square. And not just on unfortunate occasion, but frankly, well, regularly. It might be diet, or maybe because they have an ass as big as some fraction of Rosie’s …whatever….the point is those people are a ready market for TP offsets!

In the eyewitness’ version, again, David and Crow are a bit more aggressive than their own story suggests. The eyewitness says David told Rove, You need to bring in new people to tell you the truth. Rove mentioned Dr. John Marburger, the White House science advisor. At that point, according to the eyewitness, Crow began poking Rove’s chest with her finger, demanding to know what corporations were underwriting Marburger’s work. Rove said Marburger had been in academia most of his career.
With Crow jabbing him in the chest, Rove turned to take his seat. Then, the witness says, Crow grabbed his arm. A few more words were exchanged, and it was over.
I suppose if I were approached by someone whom I know only wipes with one square of TP – I probably would not want them touching me either.
I also suppose that is discrimination against the Single-Square minority and such a statement would probably get me kicked of my MSNBC radio show, if I had one.
This whole thing from “Thelma and Louise” is making me think of some situations I’ve been in over here in Germany.
This was a White House Dinner.
I myself have wanted to hit the pub, have a beer and relax and when I get “jumped” by a Bush/Iraq War hating person sometimes discussing and debating these issuses is the LAST THING ON MY MIND.
You can’t just bombard a person for a deep conversation just because YOU might want to.
That’s not how good discussion work. Even High School debate teams get time to prepare.
It’s a courtesy and “Thelma and Louise” showed no respect. From what I read they definitely had their say, Rove wanted to GET BACK to his table and EAT his DINNER. They wouldn’t let him.
Sooo for me it brings up another point. If celebrities feel that they can “jump” a person for a discussion and debate about the issues that are near and dear to their hearts then they need to shut the hell up about Papparrazi and overzealous FANS bothering them.
They are setting the tone that is perfectly acceptable to disturb someone’s dinner, someone’s night out for a discussion AND I guess it’s okay to TOUCH now.
If Sheryl and her buddy can TOUCH Karl Rove and hound him in between tables then it’s ON I say.
Bring on the PHOTOGRAPHERS and all the little adoring fans who WANT AN AUTHOGRAPH…
The celebrities are doing it…why not you?
hahaha…I just thought of something else.
When you see a celebrity that you REALLY want to talk to don’t let ‘em ignore you or brush you off. You reach out and TOUCH their arm and politely say that ya know you’ve purchased their last few CD’s. You’ve gone to the movies and seen their new films. You’ve bought the entire DVD collection of their television series so in a way……they kind of work FOR YOU.
Right?
Yea…that would go over well huh?
45, a blatant lie, but that is what you live, Tofu, a lie.
48, BonBon, Rosie O’Dumbass is only funny using words and actions someone scripted for her and under direction of an adult. On her own, she is a miserable B****!
Again, lib losers, how would you like it if I interrupted your dinner at a social event, not a political one and started jabbing my finger in your chest? I guarantee you won’t like it and you won’t be as civil as Rove was to Crow and David’s uncivil behavior.
52 and 53- I hadn’t thought of that angle..great points.
Someone needs to teach Sheryl Crow some civics lessons. Mr. Rove is not an elected official. He does not have to answer to anyone except President Bush. He should slap her and Laurie David with harassment charges.
Oh, dear, I just saw this entry, and I had my response all ready, but I see Lisa beat me to it.
I just did my part a couple of years ago to fight “deforestation;” I had my property timbered out. It was very thickly populated with large trees, which didn’t let in any sunlight, so nothing could grow. Now I have new trees coming up all over the place. An untimbered forest is a dying forest.
I cannot believe that there are so many moron who still believe that there is no global warming.
Sri, it’s not that there isn’t global warming occurring, it’s just that there is no verifiable evidence that human activity is causing it. At the current rate of increase, it’ll take over a century to get to where the temperatures were during the Little Climatic Optimum and even longer to reach the average mean temperatures during the Climatic Optimum. Considering that the Little Climatic Optimum was during period when the Vikings were able to cross the north Atlantic in longships. They were growing crops in Scotland and grapes were growing wild in Nova Scotia. This is historical fact, scientific “consensus” based on the desire to raise grant money from the government.
That’s “NOT” based on scientific “consensus” based on the desire to raise government grant money.
61.
You also forgot the the desire to promote a pre-created industry that they would have dominence in, like algore and his green credits.
I can’t believe there are so many morons who can’t even read through a topic and all the posts to figure out what the real topic is before they render an opinion. Actually, I can, because they do it.
this adminstration has not been right once terry shivo still alive inside? jessica lynch hero? iraq nukes? globo warming? oh and don’t forget bownie you been doing a hell of a job. if the results were not so tragic i would lol but insted it’s enough to make you weep
