Karl Rove Attacked by Global Warming Nuts Sheryl Crow & Laurie David At The White House Correspondents Dinner

By: Pam On: Apr/22/07 - 84 Comments

Keep in mind that Sheryl Crow proposes a one square of toilet paper-per-sitting quota to offset deforestation, so we know what she is full of.  Read the version that Crow and David reported  at the Huffington Post:

In his attempt to dismiss us, Mr. Rove turned to head toward his table, but as soon as he did so, Sheryl reached out to touch his arm. Karl swung around and spat, “Don’t touch me.” How hardened and removed from reality must a person be to refuse to be touched by Sheryl Crow? Unphased, Sheryl abruptly responded, “You can’t speak to us like that, you work for us.” Karl then quipped, “I don’t work for you, I work for the American people.” To which Sheryl promptly reminded him, “We are the American people.”

At that point Mr. Rove apparently decided he had had enough. Like a groundhog fearful of his own shadow, he scurried to his table in an attempt to hibernate for another year from his responsibility to address global warming. Drama aside, you would expect as an American citizen to be able to engage in a civil discussion with a public official. Instead, Mr. Rove was dismissive, condescending, and quite frankly a bully.

Bully? Who grabbed whom?  And guess what ladies, the American people don’t get to get that close to any politician, let alone walk up to them at a dinner…

Noel Sheppard offers these various media versions of the event:

As reported by Editor & Publisher Sunday

What was Rove’s take? Well, the Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz reported the following on CNN’s “Reliable Sources” Sunday:

But it was Rove who felt put upon by Crow, telling the Washington Post, “She came over to insult me, and she succeeded.”

Update: The Associated Press is now reporting

Here is the Washington Post piece on this issue:

Global warming was the talking point last night at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner when singer Sheryl Crow and “Inconvenient Truth” producer Laurie David walked over to Table 92 at the Hilton Washington to chat with Karl Rove — and the resulting exchange was suitably heated.

And, maybe most important from the Post piece (emphasis added):

News of the dust-up filtered quickly through the room. Some witnesses said David was very aggressive with Rove; a shaken Crow later said that Rove was “combative and unresponsive.”

How can you be combative and unresponsive?  Isn’t the fact that he was alledged to by combative a response?

Is this what Michelle had in mind when she wrote: Lifestyles of the rich and eco-sanctimonious

      Rove Harassed by Environmental Wackos

Huffington Post simpletons Laurie David and Sheryl Crow decided to ambush Karl Rove at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

Crow and David are both hypocrites. Crow has a diesel-powered tour bus (how ironic) and David has a Lear Jet.

      Open letter to Laurie David:

You are miserable. Everyone knows you are just feeding off of your husband’s fame and you have no merit of your own. Judging from the way he channels you in Curb, he either consciously or sub-consciously thinks you are a disgusting sack of shit.

Crow has an overinflated value of herself. Like all liberal Crow thinks noting of invading another person’s personal space, but just try to get past her bodyguards to touch her.

Poor Rove. He must have really felt put upon. One thing these two liberal birds don’t seem to get is that you do not invade someone’s personal space and they are not the only people Mr. Rove works for. As for the one square of tp per person…huh? Well, sorry for her but I can afford to use two squares and two squares I will

My question is this, if in fact Crow’s point was that Rove works for her, and therefore he is obligated to speak to her….is the same true for her employees..me thinks there would be some trouble if she grabbed a roadie…

grabbing a persons arm during a “discussion” is the sign of agression.

      Peejz and BonBon,

Crow is so used to the star treatment that she can’t handle being told no. I wonder if her star ego and Lance Armstrong’s star ego can’t fit in the same room being the cause for their earlier split.

But notice the problems Liberals have here being told no, that they are full of crap, and their inability to reason out their positions without resorting to their fairy tale utopian delusions as a fact.

How disgraceful that Rove would not stop everything and allow himself to be lectured to!!! Sheryl Crow is known to be an eminent scientist who does indeed have all the science that’s in proving not only that humans are causing Global Warming, but that we will all be dead soon if we don’t stop it!!!

Laurie David, as another of the huge scientific personalities behind the production of propamentary An Inconvenient Truth is perhaps second only to Messiah, Prophet, and Savior Al Gore himself in her importance and qualifications on this subject!!!

Hi PCD….generally I don’t listen to tabloids but one can’t help hearing things. I heard that Lance and Sheryl broke up because of Lance’s admiration for Bush. Remember the bike ride Lance and Bush took? It was soon after that those two split.

It seems with almost every issue celebrity’s have this I can do it but you can’t attitude. That pisses me off. They are no better than me. Richer maybe  but no better.

Peejz..you are correct. I hate that in a woman or anyone who differs than the stereotypical white boy. When any group does that it demoralizes the group as a whole. As I said, no one is better than anyone else.

guys, your eye got off the ball here.

Who gives a crap about Sheryl Crow?

The fact is our elected representatives were at an event to discuss global warming right??

They are supposed to come up with solutions, instead they are avoiding even discussing it because they dont believe it exists, and if it does exist… it doesnt matter to them because thats where their bread and butter comes from!

So a famous person who can get into the event which no one on this blog is likely to, gets shrugged off.

Rove doesnt work for the American people, he works for his benefactors.

If you really think about how the entire lot is selling the entire planet down the river, they are the lowest form of pond scum.

They attach themselves to any trendy simply casue because they love to hear their own voices, see their own names in lights, read about themsleves in print and hear about themsleves on TV news. And they will take every opportunity to denegrate Presidnt Bush. This year’s trendy casue is Global Warming. Who knows what it will be in 2009 year if the democrats are in the Whitehouse?

And what do they (”Hollywood” personalities) really know about war? They need to stick to their scripts. They are more believable on screen than in real life. The younger they are, the more foolish and idiodic they seem to be.

The definition of “liberal” is 1. “having, expressing or following social or political views or policies that favor non-revolutionary progress and reform.” 2. having, expressing or following views or policies that favor the FREEDOM of individuals to act or express themselves in a manner of their own choosing.” I feel proud when somebody tags me as a liberal.

34, 35, Liberals in this country do not favor freedom, but work for enslavement of the people to the government. A government run by feel-good, do-nothing, elitists who do not care about the people. They just need to order arond the people while the Libs enjoy the best the people have to give them. Their children, their money, and their servitude.

When judgement day comes, it is people like you two who will be facing the Wrath of God for denying him and fighting against him.

Additionally, when the global warming warrior hits the road, her touring entourage (and equipment) travels in three tractor trailers, four buses, and six cars. Now that’s a carbon footprint!

But they care, you know! They are trying to do good! They are trying to save the planet, so by definition they are good, everything opposed is bad, and they can do no wrong! The extra Carbon they generate will be offset a million fold by the reduced Carbon footprints of those they educate and motivate into joining the action team!!!

And I am sure she will be purchasing Carbon offsets, perhaps even from Messiah Al Gore’s company? Then for sure she is wonderful and green and everything will be fine and the planet will be saved and it will be the Age of Aquarius!

Translation: Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain! Do what we say, not what we do you miserable, worthless groundlings! Do not think or question! Just obey! We are the all-knowing elite, who are privileged to always know what is best for you!

My definition of liberal is that they love to tax the working poor and middle class and equally love to hand out money to the people who don’t feel like working. They live in a world of wealth and hypocrisy whereby they don’t want the working poor and middle class to get ahead. If that were to happen who would be left to build their fine homes, 100 foot yachts and make their designer threads?

Oh and one more thing Jane from 35. They don’t believe anything will ever interrupt their utopian ideology. Heaven forbid we ever find ourselves fighting to stay alive let alone live free.

Let’s face it, some people need to use more than one square. And not just on unfortunate occasion, but frankly, well, regularly. It might be diet, or maybe because they have an ass as big as some fraction of Rosie’s …whatever….the point is those people are a ready market for TP offsets!

In the eyewitness’ version, again, David and Crow are a bit more aggressive than their own story suggests. The eyewitness says David told Rove, You need to bring in new people to tell you the truth. Rove mentioned Dr. John Marburger, the White House science advisor. At that point, according to the eyewitness, Crow began poking Rove’s chest with her finger, demanding to know what corporations were underwriting Marburger’s work. Rove said Marburger had been in academia most of his career.

With Crow jabbing him in the chest, Rove turned to take his seat. Then, the witness says, Crow grabbed his arm. A few more words were exchanged, and it was over.

This whole thing from “Thelma and Louise” is making me think of some situations I’ve been in over here in Germany.

This was a White House Dinner.

I myself have wanted to hit the pub, have a beer and relax and when I get “jumped” by a Bush/Iraq War hating person sometimes discussing and debating these issuses is the LAST THING ON MY MIND.

You can’t just bombard a person for a deep conversation just because YOU might want to.

That’s not how good discussion work. Even High School debate teams get time to prepare.

It’s a courtesy and “Thelma and Louise” showed no respect. From what I read they definitely had their say, Rove wanted to GET BACK to his table and EAT his DINNER. They wouldn’t let him.

Sooo for me it brings up another point. If celebrities feel that they can “jump” a person for a discussion and debate about the issues that are near and dear to their hearts then they need to shut the hell up about Papparrazi and overzealous FANS bothering them.

They are setting the tone that is perfectly acceptable to disturb someone’s dinner, someone’s night out for a discussion AND I guess it’s okay to TOUCH now.

If Sheryl and her buddy can TOUCH Karl Rove and hound him in between tables then it’s ON I say.

Bring on the PHOTOGRAPHERS and all the little adoring fans who WANT AN AUTHOGRAPH…

The celebrities are doing it…why not you?

hahaha…I just thought of something else.

When you see a celebrity that you REALLY want to talk to don’t let ‘em ignore you or brush you off. You reach out and TOUCH their arm and politely say that ya know you’ve purchased their last few CD’s. You’ve gone to the movies and seen their new films. You’ve bought the entire DVD collection of their television series so in a way……they kind of work FOR YOU.

      Right?

Yea…that would go over well huh?

I just did my part a couple of years ago to fight “deforestation;” I had my property timbered out. It was very thickly populated with large trees, which didn’t let in any sunlight, so nothing could grow. Now I have new trees coming up all over the place. An untimbered forest is a dying forest.

Sri, it’s not that there isn’t global warming occurring, it’s just that there is no verifiable evidence that human activity is causing it. At the current rate of increase, it’ll take over a century to get to where the temperatures were during the Little Climatic Optimum and even longer to reach the average mean temperatures during the Climatic Optimum. Considering that the Little Climatic Optimum was during period when the Vikings were able to cross the north Atlantic in longships. They were growing crops in Scotland and grapes were growing wild in Nova Scotia. This is historical fact, scientific “consensus” based on the desire to raise grant money from the government.
