The Government Only Pays For The Appointment, They Don’t Schedule Them For You

Mark has a great post about GMA taking on Medicaid …aka…Kucinich-Care

“GMA Gets It Done: Taking on Medicaid. Fighting to Treat Tooth Decay.”The screencap shows a palpably emotional GMA co-host Chris Cuomo literally pointing his finger at the head of the federal Medicaid program. The moment came during the course of a segment this morning recounting the sad case of 12-year old Deamonte Driver, who died after infection from an abcessed tooth spread to his brain. The boy and his family were in fact covered by Medicaid, the government health care insurance program for poor people. But the boy’s mother [pictured below] had never before taken him to a dentist, and when the abcess occurred it was reportedly difficult to find a dentist willing to provide care, given Medicaid reimbursement rates.

I am very sorry for her loss, and in no way am I trying to discount her loss, but the government doesn’t make appointments for medicaid or medicare recipients.

Remember when we learned about personal health and hygiene in grade school?

Exactly how does a mother NOT take a 12 yr old to a dentist? I feel sorry for her loss, but it’s her fault that the child hadn’t had adequate oral hygiene and dental care. I don’t know where she lives, but I deliver packages almost daily to dentists who take the Arizona Medicaid program AHCCCS.

    From Pjeez’s article,

“The boy and his family were in fact covered by Medicaid, the government health care insurance program for poor people. and when the abcess occurred it was reportedly difficult to find a dentist willing to provide care, given Medicaid reimbursement rates.

Most people in this country do not know that a ‘tooth-ache’ can be life threatening. Dental care falls way down the list of priorities for the poor. This case exemplifies why we need to join virtually all of the rest of the industrialized countries and provide comprehensive and available medical care and well-treatment (including dental and vision) for all children regardless of the families ability to pay.

They were covered by Medicaid—so what does their ability to pay have to do with anything? OUR TAX DOLLARS are paying for it.

What? Couldn’t find anyone who would take Medicaid? Well then Dentists should all be forced by law to take Medicaid! And if they refuse they should be marched off to a Gulag! Say yes to Hillarycare! Seig Heil!

Universal Health Care in the US is only a matter of time.

7, yes, indeed it is. Most Americans are already willing to pay a little more in taxes to ensure they have universal guaranteed health-care. It’s a no brainer.

Please explain how universal healthcare would have prevented this from happening?

7,8, put down the bongs. You two want universal health care, move to Cuba. Castro had to send out for competant doctors to save his miserable *ss.

No one wants raises in taxes. The last time Democrats went on a taxing binge, they got voted out of office big time. They are cruising for the same the next election here.
